View 1 Replies View RelatedThe best explanation I can get to my problem is in the title, I get some horizontal strips that I notice specially in videos (I use XBMC, full screen).I had this problem before in 10.4 and I was able to solve it simply by choosing no effects on the old menu for the appearance.
Unfortunately I followed the mote that states "If it works fine in needs more features" and I installed 11.4, now I can't seem to solve this problem... In the loggin screen I have the default option has Ubuntu classic (no effects) and I installed compiz settings and disabled everything there, but I still have the problem.I tried mint debian and I didn't have this problem there with everything off on the settings. How can I get the same effect as that "old" 10.4 menu to disable compiz?
My system:
Ubuntu 11.04
Acer revo R3610 (atom + ion)
4gb ram
(And I have the nvidia drivers installed)
I recently did a clean install of 11.04 over 10.10. I tried Unity, and wasn't a great fan. When trying to use Ubuntu Classic at login, I get straaaaange visual effects, such as no window title bars. I went into Synaptic and removed Unity and installed GNOME, thinking that GNOME would then run when I chose Ubuntu Classic at login, and after some tweaking, like adding gnome-panel and metacity --replace to the startup applications, it did.
Now here is the problem. When I try to add any effects through CCSM, they don't do anything. Zero. Zilch. Nout. I did get some effects when I first installed Natty, but this was part of the reason why my title bars disappeared - after every effect was applied, I had to restart.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm pretty new to ubuntu/linux and my knowledge about window managers is limited, so please bare with me. I was wondering if anyone knows a decent wm that supports tiling and can also have the zoom effect from compiz (mod+scroll up/mod+scroll down). I know compiz can achieve some tiling with the grid addon but that's not that great. I was looking for something more similar to how xmonad manages windows and workplaces.

recently I managed to install a plugin for Compiz that allows for head tracking. After getting past one hurdle after another I finally managed to compile it and made the webcam work with it in a 64-bit environment... Unfortunately, after I got this all working, the plugin constantly glitches out by zooming out immensely, distorting my desktop, and gives me a hall of mirrors effect. I know the plugin works because if I set some settings to minimum effect, it successfully tracks me and positions windows accordingly. But this makes the effect all jumpy and only works for periods of about 1.5 seconds then just doesn't do anything after that. Also, mouse tracking works flawlessly.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have upgraded to 10.4 and and after try to install mac look in ubuntu. My screen start flickering, I found it this due to in system => preference => appearance => effect become no effect automatically (as each and every time I select extra effect)After some time.for changing this setting i need to turn off the computer and restart then after i can do it i.e. change effect to extra effect. I've installed yesterday Fedora 14, 64 bit... Now I wanted to setup the nice graphic effect, but I can't find a way how to setup the minimize effect. I've installed additionally Emerald, ccsm and fusion-icon. I'm starting compiz using Fusion-icon. Just in the ccsm menus and icons I really can't find anymore how to setup those nice things like the magic lamp or there was also an effect which makes the window fold on minimizing (or closing).
And where did the burn effect go? It used to be there at some point in the past? And for closing effects and I didn't find nothing at all? Is there another configuration tool, besides ccsm, do I need to edit some config files in order to setup these things, should I install something more or nowadays. Compiz is losing its effects? Why all the topics regarding graphic effects are only on Ubuntu? Let's write about Fedora too !!

Using Compiz's animation plugin, only the open and close effects work. When any entries are listed under the "Animation Selection" for Minimize, Focus, or Shade; the animations do not play; and I receive a libnotify error: "Animation settings mismatch in 'Animation Selection' list for __<Minimize or Focus or Shade>___ event."This happens even with the Animation Selection values reset and even the entire Animation configuration reset. I use the Gconf backend, but this also occurs with a file-based configuration. This has never worked for me.

View 9 Replies View RelatedWhen I installed fedora 14 when moving mouse to the top right corner I would get all windows arranged one next to another on the desktop so I can choose between them. Now I don't have that feature any more.
Does it conflict with compiz, or is it one of compiz plugins? Which package is responsible for it and how can I get it back?
I can arrange my general "music" playlist by play count (by clicking the play count button at the top, my list automatically arranges in ascending or descending order according to play count), but I can't seem to do the same in my user-generated playlist. Is there any way to do this?

View 2 Replies View RelatedIs there some way top stop the "blind effect" of compiz so that when you double click the top title bar of a window that it maximizes the window instead of the rolling up type effect? Also when i place my mouse on the top right of the screen it brings it to a choosing window type mode where you can pick which window you would like to open, is it possible to get this on the top left of the screen instead? Lastly when I use Kdebluetooth4 to send a file to my computer where does that file save to?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI used Wubi to do the install and pointed it to D drive because it was basically free except for itunes... anyway, once it had finished, I turned off my laptop, turned it back on and it showed Windows and Ubuntu, I loaded Ubuntu and it said it was continuing installation, anyway it said copying files, and stuff and I didn't know if it was overwriting vista so it would go on the C drive instead of the D drive. Anyway, I just want Ubuntu on D and Vista on C. Is Ubuntu gonna' overwrite Vista?
View 5 Replies View Relatedi am installing 11.2 for a friend of mine and one of the reasons he wanted linux was that cool looking burning windows when you close them.
so i installed it and wanted to activate the effect but i could not find it.
i am pretty sure i got it running on my 11.1.
i searched the web for hours but was not successful. maybe i used the wrong tags.

View 8 Replies View RelatedUsing gnome I love the desktop effects, except the 'maximize window' effect. There is an annoying delay when I maximize a window. Is there a way to turn this particular effect off, while leaving all the others on. I looked in control center>desktop effects, but the option is not there. The only way I could turn off the maximize effect was unchecking the "enable desktop effects" checkbox. But this turns all effects off. All other effects run smooth and snappy.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've got some video clips that were shot with an incorrect white balance, which I'd like to correct. Having read that LiVES has color FX, I thought I'd give it a try.
The documentation for LiVES [URL] shows a "colour correction" effect that I don't see anywhere on my copy of LiVES 1.1.5. My digging so far hasn't found a plug-in that does color correction.
I installed 10.10 (tried upgrade and clean install) on my thinkpad x40. I could not enable desktop effects and video playback is very sloppy. On 10.04 works fine. I tried compiz-check

The vesa driver is not capable of running Compiz, you need to install the proper driver for your graphics card. I tried with newer kenel, but no luck. I tried to install the newer driver from intel. I am not quite sure I managed to install them properly, though. Is this the appropriate sub-forum for this topic, or "hardware and laptops".
