I recently did a clean install of 11.04 over 10.10. I tried Unity, and wasn't a great fan. When trying to use Ubuntu Classic at login, I get straaaaange visual effects, such as no window title bars. I went into Synaptic and removed Unity and installed GNOME, thinking that GNOME would then run when I chose Ubuntu Classic at login, and after some tweaking, like adding gnome-panel and metacity --replace to the startup applications, it did.
Now here is the problem. When I try to add any effects through CCSM, they don't do anything. Zero. Zilch. Nout. I did get some effects when I first installed Natty, but this was part of the reason why my title bars disappeared - after every effect was applied, I had to restart.
ive had ubuntu 10.4 on my system before but decided to see what else is out there on now im back here but ive compiz effects on when i first had ubuntu 10.4 and now the extra effects wont stay on and when i enable compiz effects they have the check next to it as if i enable them but when i exit they do not stay enable i have reinstalled ubuntu
I'm pretty new to ubuntu/linux and my knowledge about window managers is limited, so please bare with me. I was wondering if anyone knows a decent wm that supports tiling and can also have the zoom effect from compiz (mod+scroll up/mod+scroll down). I know compiz can achieve some tiling with the grid addon but that's not that great. I was looking for something more similar to how xmonad manages windows and workplaces.
I was using Super+M keyboard shortcut yesterday to enable/disable the Compiz Negative theme (inverted colours), but now when I do the same keyboard shortcut it just opens the Mail/Chat/Broadcast menu next to the date/calendar/clock in the top panel.
I enabled the compiz on centos . When i move the mouse cursor to the left top on the screen, all the windows will list on the desktop. I want to disable this effect without disabling the whole compizIt looks like the configuration file is ~/.gconf/apps/compiz/general/allscreens/options/%gconf.xml
recently I managed to install a plugin for Compiz that allows for head tracking. After getting past one hurdle after another I finally managed to compile it and made the webcam work with it in a 64-bit environment... Unfortunately, after I got this all working, the plugin constantly glitches out by zooming out immensely, distorting my desktop, and gives me a hall of mirrors effect. I know the plugin works because if I set some settings to minimum effect, it successfully tracks me and positions windows accordingly. But this makes the effect all jumpy and only works for periods of about 1.5 seconds then just doesn't do anything after that. Also, mouse tracking works flawlessly.
I have upgraded to 10.4 and and after try to install mac look in ubuntu. My screen start flickering, I found it this due to in system => preference => appearance => effect become no effect automatically (as each and every time I select extra effect)After some time.for changing this setting i need to turn off the computer and restart then after i can do it i.e. change effect to extra effect. Its done after following installation
I've installed yesterday Fedora 14, 64 bit... Now I wanted to setup the nice graphic effect, but I can't find a way how to setup the minimize effect. I've installed additionally Emerald, ccsm and fusion-icon. I'm starting compiz using Fusion-icon. Just in the ccsm menus and icons I really can't find anymore how to setup those nice things like the magic lamp or there was also an effect which makes the window fold on minimizing (or closing).
And where did the burn effect go? It used to be there at some point in the past? And for closing effects and I didn't find nothing at all? Is there another configuration tool, besides ccsm, do I need to edit some config files in order to setup these things, should I install something more or nowadays. Compiz is losing its effects? Why all the topics regarding graphic effects are only on Ubuntu? Let's write about Fedora too !!
Using Compiz's animation plugin, only the open and close effects work. When any entries are listed under the "Animation Selection" for Minimize, Focus, or Shade; the animations do not play; and I receive a libnotify error: "Animation settings mismatch in 'Animation Selection' list for __<Minimize or Focus or Shade>___ event."This happens even with the Animation Selection values reset and even the entire Animation configuration reset. I use the Gconf backend, but this also occurs with a file-based configuration. This has never worked for me.
im using Ubuntu 10.04 and whenever i enable it and try to iniate it it just makes my screen black =/. It sucks because i really loved that feature (on 64-bit btw)
The best explanation I can get to my problem is in the title, I get some horizontal strips that I notice specially in videos (I use XBMC, full screen).I had this problem before in 10.4 and I was able to solve it simply by choosing no effects on the old menu for the appearance.
Unfortunately I followed the mote that states "If it works fine in needs more features" and I installed 11.4, now I can't seem to solve this problem... In the loggin screen I have the default option has Ubuntu classic (no effects) and I installed compiz settings and disabled everything there, but I still have the problem.I tried mint debian and I didn't have this problem there with everything off on the settings. How can I get the same effect as that "old" 10.4 menu to disable compiz?
My system:
Ubuntu 11.04 Acer revo R3610 (atom + ion) 4gb ram (And I have the nvidia drivers installed)
Is there some way top stop the "blind effect" of compiz so that when you double click the top title bar of a window that it maximizes the window instead of the rolling up type effect? Also when i place my mouse on the top right of the screen it brings it to a choosing window type mode where you can pick which window you would like to open, is it possible to get this on the top left of the screen instead? Lastly when I use Kdebluetooth4 to send a file to my computer where does that file save to?
i got driver and when i install driver and reboot computer I got just terminal and when I type startx I get error FLGRX and sam log file or something like that.
instruction i found here but some comands didn't worked openSUSE Lizards
As said here: [URl] I want the sphere deformation, but that needs the PPA apparently (I can't find it anywhere in the default compiz Ubuntu 10.10 ships with.) Compiz starts, but it says it can't load plugin 'decoration.'
At some point in the past my installation of Ubuntu suddenly stopped applying the changes automatically when I made changes in the Appearance Preferences. I used to find when changing my theme, icons, wallpaper etc. it would change immediately, now it doesn't change at all until I've logged out and back in.
It started happening at some point when I was using Karmic, now after upgrading to Lucid the problem is still there.
i installed compiz-fusion and activated the water effect. when i use the keystrokes to initiate it or toggle the rain, nothing happens. i've tried to find information on how to fix it to no avail
I have a laptop with 10.04 installed. When it is plugged in with AC Power, the screen fades black after a few minutes and locks up after about 10 minutes (shows a dialog for passwd when back). This gets really annoying when listening a movie or just reading text.System->Preferences->Power Management is set to "never" for everything.gconf-editor->apps->gnome-power-management is set to "0" for everything finishing with *_ac.
in CCSM i don't have the burn effect, i have animations checked marked, i was reading somewhere where i had to enable or check mark extra plugins i cant see that anywhere?
Did they do away with that effect/plugin? i'm using Ubuntu 10.04 is that makes a difference?
I'm running 10.10 and whenever i click on extra under visual effects in Appearance I'll get the keep settings dialogue box, but then the effects don't enable and if i go back to the page the effects is back on none. I am very lost and would be happy for answers. My grpahics card is a ATI Radeon HD 3200 graphics card.
I have a production 8.04 server that needs quite a few updates. However, our primary application is NOT compatible with php.5.3.x and will fail. When I apply the 8.04 updates will php be updated to the newest version? Or stay with the version that's installed? I can't seem to find an answer for this so I ask here.
I don't know if I saw this minimize effect in ubuntu but definitely have seen it on other nix systems. It's basically a little button in the menu bar that when clicked, "minimizes" the window so that only the menubar shows.how to get it working on ubuntu.
I've seen people use the fire effect when minimizing windows and even saw someone setting up the fire effect to fit their needs in compiz but I do not have the fire effect in my compiz effects manager. Where can i get it??
I am using Compiz, and am trying to use Animations to make only Gloobus Preview (Window name= gloobus-preview) open with one of three animations. I have selected Horizontal Folds, Sidekick, and Zoom in Random Effects, made a new item for Open, set its duration to 200, set it to Random, and have tried everything possible to try and get only Gloobus Preview to have an animation, but nothing works. I can get everything except Gloobus Preview to have an animation, but if I do the opposite, then nothing works. If I set it to "any", then Gloobus Preview animates, but so does everything else. I would like for nothing to have an open animation except for Gloobus Preview. How can I do this in Compiz's Animations?
