I have a strange IDE device that isnt recognized during boot, so I installed via network but after the installation the DVDROm Drive is still not recognized. I found some floppy images with the driver but dont know how to install them:

I installed CentOS on an HP server with 5i RAID controller (so it's hardware RAID) and installed GRUB to the MBR. However, it boots straight to Windows XP without seeing the GRUB loader at all.
Configuration is this.
Windows installed on RAID0 drive
CentOS installed on a separate RAID0
Windows fileshare on RAID5
I'm guessing that since the RAID controller doesn't "see" separate drives in each array, that I'll need to do some "fudging" to get it to work, like maybe using Windows' pathetic loader to load GRUB and go from there, but I have no idea how. Do I have to make the drive "seeable" by Windows first by assigning it a drive letter under Windows Disk Manager, and then add it to the bootloader ini file?
I've installed CentOS lot's of times, but I've never had an issue like this before. It's just a black screen, and all I see is a mouse. I see some drive activity, but I gave it a good hour and it's just sitting there. Not sure what to do here or what's causing the issue. There were no problems during the install. I'm trying to install it on an old Dell PowerEdge 1900 server. Edit: If I go to the console, top is showing X and gdm taking 10+% of the CPU and there's a high load. Which is odd because this is a fresh install..
View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded from Hardy to 9.10 Kubuntu. The install went smoothly, and when I boot up, the loading screen (the one with the progress bar) does its thing. Then I see the 'waiting' cursor (in Kubuntu, the two dots chasing each other around in a circle). I see this for about two to three seconds, then the entire thing freezes up and I can't do anything, including switching to a virtual console. How do I figure out my system's dying words so I can figure out what's going wrong? As a (sort of) aside, when I open files in /var/log for reading with cat <file> | less, I have to Page-Down a whole bunch to get to the most recent stuff. Is there a way to jump to the bottom, or read with something other than what I have been using?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've installed Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal on a External HDD (320GB Samsung S2). Worked like a charm. Bit slow to boot up and load programs, but after a while, works great. I installed it on the external HDD for one purpose: Work anywhere with Ubuntu, no matter which computer I use. I was thinking that was impossible, but I've tested thru several platforms (3 Notebooks, 2 netbooks, all Intel and one AMD Desktop). All worked flawlessly (32 Bits PAE activated and no matter how many cores are active, just works), BUT the themes.For no apparent reason, themes works on the computer I've installed Ubuntu on the HDD. It has his own Internal HDD with Windows 7 and two NTFS partitions.
Themes are stuck to the default boring-white from Gnome. I can only change the window controls. Compiz works, Wireless works, video works, sound works, filesystem works, system works - themes fail. Feels like I've hit my feet's little finger on a chair. P.S.: Ext. HDD is partitioned like this: 300GB FAT32 (it's my pop's HDD, he wants it this way), 18GB EXT4, 2GB Swap.

Currently I am attempting to install Centos 5.2 64bit onto a Supermicro X7DCL-3 motherboard based machine. The Raid recognizes the HDD that's been installed into it, however, the drivers for the raid are not included in the install. After contacting Supermicro I've been supplied with a driver package that should fix the problem.[URL]However, I am still having trouble using the package in order to find the HDD (The only HDD in the machine) that is on the raid.I think I'm doing something that's should be fairly simple, but am screwing it up pretty bad.

But if I try to plug usb headphones into my system after I boot win 7, it will crash entire system, but if I plug headphones into system before loading vmware, this does not happen. Is this a kernel issue?

Unfortunately, a couple screens in, right after the LOADING SCSI DRIVER screens of the "mptbase" and "mptscsi" it appears that the system is halting/freezing with the screen of:

my lilo fedora entry boots fine but... at the middle of "after boot" loading the system hangs and stops the usual driver detection, etc (normally, it hangs on the CDROM detection or USB 2.0 camera detection).

Do either the hplip-2.8.4.run or hplip-2.8.4.tar.gz installation methods install hplip 2.84 for an x86_64 system, as opposed to just an x86 system ? I have a RHEL5 machine having mysql5.0.22 is installed in it. i also installed java through "jdk-1_5_0_19-linux-i586.bin" package, and its version is 1.5.0_19. I am trying to check if any JDBC driver for Mysql Server is installed on my system . How can I do this? If any driver is already installed How can I get the file path for those driver files? is it comes along with jdk packages? As i am not a programmer, and does't know more about jdbc.

The issues is that currently when we are trying to install the RHEL5.4 image onto a 64 bit box we need to load the megasr driver initially before the ahci driver. Hence we use a seperate diskette for the same. We want to integrate the megasr files into the RHEL image itself.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI have installed LAMP server in ubuntu 10.04 using sudo tasksel command @ my home and with all the port forwarding and stuff its working fine and i can access it via internet and images load fine, but when i installed LAMP using same exact same command @ my friends place and proper network configs, the php pages load but the images don't load. (Images which are very small in size like less then 5 kb is loading though, like small icons, smileys...)Tried clearing cache, different browsers, different image formats.

When I installed Slackware, the required driver was not in the Linux kernel, but a Linux driver did exist, so I downloaded, compiled, and installed it.Initially, when typing lspci -v, I got:Kernel driver in use: rt2860Kernel modules: rt2860sta, rt2800pcifor my card. The driver I compiled was named rt3090sta, and if I typed modprobe rt3090sta, it would not load. Eventually, I discovered that to get it to work, I had to type the following commands.
rmmod rt2860sta
rmmod rt2800pci
modprobe rt3090sta
modporbe rt2800pci
And yes, if I do not enter rmmod rt2800pci, and then modprobe rt2800pci at the end, it will not work. I would like to know how to get rt3090sta toload by default instead of rt2860sta. After I've done this, lspci -v gives me: Kernel driver in use: rt2860rnel modules: rt3090sta, rt2860sta, rt2800pci
I have been doing some research on problems I have been having and I have narrows Compiz down to being the problem. I am running the prop Nvidea driver. I can use Unity 2d fine however I cannot use Unity at all I just get a blank screen with the mouse cursor no desktop ever loads. I have tried switching between gdm and kdm. I have now worked out that compiz looks like the problem. If I issue a compiz --replace at the terminal I get the same sort of problem I get when I log into the Unity 3d. I loose my left hand monitor (it goes black but I can move my mouse around) and on my right hand monitor I can operate things using the keyboard but when you click with the mouse it does not work although you can move it around fine. Never used Compiz and I dont know if anyone knows any troubleshooting I can try I have exhausted what I could find on the Internet (A few exports of global variables but none fixed anything).

How could I automatically load this driver at startup. I followed the instruction found in the driver source README file. But its not working. The steps I followed are as follows:
# load driver
# cp wl.ko /lib/modules/`uname -r`/kernel/drivers/net/wireless
# depmod -a
The same steps I followd in 2.6.26 kernel and it worked fine. Now its not working in my new kernel 2.6.32.For manually loading it I have to remove the ssb driver and the download this one. Otherwise it will not work. So I tried adding ssb to /etc/modprobe.d/blacklistle. But that driver loads during startup. So each time I have to manually unload the ssb driver and insert the new one.
I've been configuring a kickstart installation of Fedora 14, and everything was working fine on a slightly older Dell Precision 490. The machines we're actually going to use, are Dell Precision T7400, and when I tried on thoseit had some issues with the SAS controller, and is unable to see the hard drive in the machine. I just recently installed a fresh copy of 9.10 server on an older machine I had laying around to use as a router and home server. Everything is setup and I'm on the net on it, except for some reason the Netgear GA311 I'm using for the internal network doesn't seem to be loading a driver. I've tried modprobing 8139 (which it says isn't found) as well as 8139too, 8139 too goes through ok, but it doesn't make any change, with lshw still claiming that it is "unclaimed". It seems that the Realtek chipset this card is based on is extremely compatible with Linux and I'm having trouble finding anyone with a similar issue with it.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI bought a new NVIDIA GeForce 6600GT video card for this PC recently and now whenever I boot Ubuntu 9.10 Live I can't change the screen resolution from 640 X 480. I get this message to the effect that the driver is restricted and not free software. When I try to download it and use it it says I can only activate it after a reboot, but I guess it means after rebooting an installation of Ubuntu, not the live cd since it never takes.
Ubuntu recommends NVIDIA accelerated graphics driver 185, so I went to NVIDIA's web site and downloaded NVIDIA-Linux-x86-185.18.36-pkg1.run (and NVIDIA-Linux-x86-190.53-pkg1.run since I think it's the newest, at least when I enter GeForce 6 Series and Linux 32-bit in the driver download search it's what comes up). I noticed that at the beginning menu of the Ubuntu 9.10 Live cd, when you press F4, the option to load from a driver disk is there. I was hoping this means I could just put one or both of the above files on a cd, insert it into the other disk drive and select that option.
all i want is loading a simple c++ program like hello world with this driver. everything works fine except it doesnt start the program. because ret returns with 0 i think the program works fine but I think i messed up something about how to start the c++ program. i used this example for my program but it doesent work too.

Background: I was attempting to install new Nvidia drivers. When they didn't work, I madly attempted to uninstall, reinstall, different drivers and configuration files following advice posted on forums. There were many, many installs and restarts during this process, causing a variety of problems and errors. Currently, I have purged all the nvidia drivers except the nvidia-current ones with the xorg.conf file generated by running nvidia-xconfig.
Current problems: Boot process gets to purple Ubuntu screen with 5 changing dots beneath, but hangs there forever. Pressing esc reveals that the boot process gets to "checking battery state [ok]", but fails to load the login screen. Pressing ctrl-alt F1 allows me to log-in and startx successfully starts Xorg with the proper Nvidia drivers.Question:How can I fix things so that the system does not hang at the Ubuntu loading screen? Or, how can I diagnose what is causing the error?I suspect there may be a problem with the xorg.conf file that's being generated by nvidia-xconfig. Please take a look:

I am attempting to load CentOS 5 on an Acer 6900 desktop and I'm not even getting out of the starting gate. I am familiar with using linux but not the install procedure which is why I am beginning to dive into this. However, when I bring the system up off the Linux boot disk and go to install it's not even giving me the option of the controller so I can begin installing the os from the dvd-rom. This is what acer lists as the controller for the 6900: ich8 serial ata storage controller 2820 linux driver. I cannot find this driver for linux anywhere.
