With my limited knowledge about integrating kernel modules into the initrd image. The issues is that currently when we are trying to install the RHEL5.4 image onto a 64 bit box we need to load the megasr driver initially before the ahci driver. Hence we use a seperate diskette for the same. We want to integrate the megasr files into the RHEL image itself.

I wonder if someone can shade alight on this problem,I have active subscription for rhel4 ES and trying to do a fresh install of rhel5,I was able to download rhel5.3 DVD image from redhat site,burnt it to a DVD but is not booting,i have so far tried on 2 different DVDs but both have failed. I have even downloaded and burnt 1 CD ISO image burnt it still failed.BIOS level is set to cd device first so no problem there,it works!

Can anyone point me to some writeup's that might provide some illumination on this potentially daunting task? When I start my laptop: Dell Vostro 1720, it starts loading grub, I select Ubuntu, and after that, appears one image of ubuntu logo

2- When I install StartupManager, it appears only with two options: Startup Options and Advanced. And there I can't change the ubuntu loading image. If we check google images, we can see more than this... I suppose this is caused by ubuntu startupManager download link....
3-I tried copy by different ways the splash.png. With gnome-conf, setting the key in apps...splash.png. Didn't work. Also I tried to replace "/usr/share/images/xsplash/bg_2560x1600.jpg" to another pic I have, but no result.
I have been using a boot disk with a kickstart file that calls rpm files that are on RHEL4.8. The rpm files tk-devel,tcl-devel,nss-devel and nspr-devel respond back during the install of RHEL5.e with a pop-up saying they do not exist,but when I look on the RHEL5.4 DVD they do exist in the Workstation directory.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am using a Dell Latitude D610 that is a few years old, and running Fedora 13. I do not think hardware is too relevant to my problem, nor is it an issue with my OS itself. I do not dare perform an upgrade to Fedora 14 at this point because this is an active work machine, for school use. To the heart of the problem, I am extremely irritated by the erratic behavior of Epiphany Browser (and just an hour ago, Midori). If I open more than a few pages at once (e.g. ctrl-clicking a bunch of Google search results) more often than not I get a chain of "cannot resolve hostname" blank tabs.
Oddly enough, I refresh the pages (one by one, of course - I don't know how to mass refresh) and they load properly! The problem is more prominent on Wikipedia - most articles have images embedded here and there amongst the text. When I visit the page, none of these show up - the page loads, and after I see the blue mercury-looking progress indicator shoot to the end, the spaces where the images should be are blanked and in the centers lie a little thumbnail of a grey photo with the corner turned up - e.g. generic-can't-show-the-image.
This is remediated by visiting wikimedia.org or refreshing the article itself, whereupon the images fall into place. The problem seems to carry over into Midori browser, which I installed a few hours ago just to use as an alternative - I say "had" because just now, the problem resolved itself. I strongly suspect that it has to do with my changing my cache size from 169 MB to 13 MB, which I did just now. That issue is now trivial; next question: Google Docs behaves very strangely in my browser. Whenever I make a normal alphanumeric keystroke, it shows up fine; but "backspace" and "delete" and "enter" are both doubled.
I double-space between my paragraphs by accident and when I make a mistake in my typing I often suck myself into a cycle of mistakes. E.g. "Polanrd" --> "Polan" --> "Pol" --> "Pold" (hitting backspace twice to trim off "rd", but Google Docs redoubles the keystrokes into four backspaces and I end up taking off too much and adding the lone "d" in the wrong place). The problem shows up to a lesser extent in the built-in chat, wherein backspace is not affected, but every time I hit "enter" my chat appears twice (as though I had hit enter twice).
Yesterday, i just got my Fedora live DVD. When i tried to boot it from my CD/DVD ROM drive, it seems to hang when it's just about to finish loading. From one of the prevous threads, one of the members said that i had to have 2 partitions on my HD. Currently, i already have 2 partitions. Can someone give me advice on what to do??
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have been trying to get the live image of 10.4 to work on my machine, however I keep running into video corruption issues. When I try to run the live image, from a CD or USB stick, it shows the loading screen fine and the bars underneath the logo move and look fine. Then it seems as though it has loaded and goes to desktop, but it only shows a corrupted image of the loading screen. After a few seconds there seems to be some sort of intro sound playing, however it is very scratchy/corrupted. I'm not sure what the issue is and I have tried 32 and 64 bit versions.
I have also tried installing via Wubi and get the same results. I'm really at a loss of how to correct the problem. Not sure if it is a video driver issue, or some other issue. I also can't seem to find a safe graphics mode to try and work around the problem.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI've had this odd, stubborn problem that seems to be related to the nouveau video driver and certain kernel builds: opening or saving full resolution jpeg image files using GIMP takes from 1-5 minutes and causes xorg CPU usage to reach almost 100%.This also occurs when using UFRaw to open Canon raw image files. The problem is not intermittent, it happens each time I open a file. Opening photos in the default image viewer works fine.This bug has vexed me on and off for the last couple of months, and seems to be triggered by a combination of kernel version and the Nouveau driver. I switched to Debian Squeeze from Ubuntu 10.04 because I was experiencing slow image open times in Ubuntu 10.04 (using the Nouveau driver).I did not experience the bug running Squeeze with the nv driver and kernel 2.6.32-3.

I update daily so it's likely to be that day's updates which caused the bug to reappear.Just for grins, I installed the Liquorix kernel. The bug does not occur using kernel 2.6.34-0.dmz.10-liquorix-686 and the nouveau video driver.I have a Nvidia FX5500 video card. I prefer the nouveau driver to nv as my display seems to behave better. The Nvidia proprietary drivers are not an option because they produce X freezes when I am doing photo editing. The liquorix kernel seems to be working fine, but for long-term stability I'd rather be running a mainline Debian kernel.
I mount a few locations from a VMware virtual machine, but currently every time I start up VMware I need to re-mount the locations once the VMware image has started up fully, which gets tedious. I'd like to be able to mount them automatically when VMware is started.
I generally double-click the .VMX file (which is associated with VMware Player) to launch the virtual machine, but once it has finished loading I would need to run the mount commands manually or execute a bash script that does it.
Is there any way you can think of to have it done automatically? One way I can think of is to start my virtual machine by running a script that starts VMware player, sleeps for a minute or so, then runs the mount command - but setting the right sleep interval would be difficult because this varies a fair bit - and overall, it's a solution that's kinda icky and that I'd like to avoid if there's some better option.

When I installed Slackware, the required driver was not in the Linux kernel, but a Linux driver did exist, so I downloaded, compiled, and installed it.Initially, when typing lspci -v, I got:Kernel driver in use: rt2860Kernel modules: rt2860sta, rt2800pcifor my card. The driver I compiled was named rt3090sta, and if I typed modprobe rt3090sta, it would not load. Eventually, I discovered that to get it to work, I had to type the following commands.
rmmod rt2860sta
rmmod rt2800pci
modprobe rt3090sta
modporbe rt2800pci
And yes, if I do not enter rmmod rt2800pci, and then modprobe rt2800pci at the end, it will not work. I would like to know how to get rt3090sta toload by default instead of rt2860sta. After I've done this, lspci -v gives me: Kernel driver in use: rt2860rnel modules: rt3090sta, rt2860sta, rt2800pci
I have broadcom wireless card in my system. I got the driver from broadcom site. I compiled it against my kernel and the module works fine. How could I automatically load this driver at startup. I followed the instruction found in the driver source README file. But its not working. The steps I followed are as follows:
# load driver
# cp wl.ko /lib/modules/`uname -r`/kernel/drivers/net/wireless
# depmod -a
The same steps I followd in 2.6.26 kernel and it worked fine. Now its not working in my new kernel 2.6.32.For manually loading it I have to remove the ssb driver and the download this one. Otherwise it will not work. So I tried adding ssb to /etc/modprobe.d/blacklistle. But that driver loads during startup. So each time I have to manually unload the ssb driver and insert the new one.
I've been configuring a kickstart installation of Fedora 14, and everything was working fine on a slightly older Dell Precision 490. The machines we're actually going to use, are Dell Precision T7400, and when I tried on thoseit had some issues with the SAS controller, and is unable to see the hard drive in the machine. loading zd1211 linux driver after I booted up into BT4. The only command I figure out is tar zxvfZD1211LnxDrv_2_16_0_0.tar. From here I don't know what to do? Can someone give step by step commands to walk me thru the loading process?

I just recently installed a fresh copy of 9.10 server on an older machine I had laying around to use as a router and home server. Everything is setup and I'm on the net on it, except for some reason the Netgear GA311 I'm using for the internal network doesn't seem to be loading a driver. I've tried modprobing 8139 (which it says isn't found) as well as 8139too, 8139 too goes through ok, but it doesn't make any change, with lshw still claiming that it is "unclaimed". It seems that the Realtek chipset this card is based on is extremely compatible with Linux and I'm having trouble finding anyone with a similar issue with it.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI bought a new NVIDIA GeForce 6600GT video card for this PC recently and now whenever I boot Ubuntu 9.10 Live I can't change the screen resolution from 640 X 480. I get this message to the effect that the driver is restricted and not free software. When I try to download it and use it it says I can only activate it after a reboot, but I guess it means after rebooting an installation of Ubuntu, not the live cd since it never takes.
Ubuntu recommends NVIDIA accelerated graphics driver 185, so I went to NVIDIA's web site and downloaded NVIDIA-Linux-x86-185.18.36-pkg1.run (and NVIDIA-Linux-x86-190.53-pkg1.run since I think it's the newest, at least when I enter GeForce 6 Series and Linux 32-bit in the driver download search it's what comes up). I noticed that at the beginning menu of the Ubuntu 9.10 Live cd, when you press F4, the option to load from a driver disk is there. I was hoping this means I could just put one or both of the above files on a cd, insert it into the other disk drive and select that option.
all i want is loading a simple c++ program like hello world with this driver. everything works fine except it doesnt start the program. because ret returns with 0 i think the program works fine but I think i messed up something about how to start the c++ program. i used this example for my program but it doesent work too.

Currently I am attempting to install Centos 5.2 64bit onto a Supermicro X7DCL-3 motherboard based machine. The Raid recognizes the HDD that's been installed into it, however, the drivers for the raid are not included in the install. After contacting Supermicro I've been supplied with a driver package that should fix the problem.[URL]However, I am still having trouble using the package in order to find the HDD (The only HDD in the machine) that is on the raid.I think I'm doing something that's should be fairly simple, but am screwing it up pretty bad.

I have a native 64 bit 11.3 system with vmware 7.0x as an application. I have installed a win 7 guest which works fine 99% of the time. But if I try to plug usb headphones into my system after I boot win 7, it will crash entire system, but if I plug headphones into system before loading vmware, this does not happen. Is this a kernel issue?

When they didn't work, I madly attempted to uninstall, reinstall, different drivers and configuration files following advice posted on forums. There were many, many installs and restarts during this process, causing a variety of problems and errors. Currently, I have purged all the nvidia drivers except the nvidia-current ones with the xorg.conf file generated by running nvidia-xconfig.
Current problems: Boot process gets to purple Ubuntu screen with 5 changing dots beneath, but hangs there forever. Pressing esc reveals that the boot process gets to "checking battery state [ok]", but fails to load the login screen. Pressing ctrl-alt F1 allows me to log-in and startx successfully starts Xorg with the proper Nvidia drivers.Question:How can I fix things so that the system does not hang at the Ubuntu loading screen? Or, how can I diagnose what is causing the error?I suspect there may be a problem with the xorg.conf file that's being generated by nvidia-xconfig. Please take a look:

Is there a known problem with the Lubuntu 10.10 image here? I have downloaded it to two different computers, then burned the images to two different blank CD's (different brands) and neither loads. Both only get as far as the Lubuntu menu, once ENTER is pressed at that point to load the LiveCD, a blank screen eventually appears with a flashing cursor at the upper left of the screen, that's it. They were both burned using the slowest burn speeds available.
