General :: GUI Not Working After Changing Resolution In Centos 5.4 On Dell Optiplex 280 / Fix It?

Mar 2, 2010

After installing a Dell Optilex 280 desktop with Centos 5.4, I configured sendamil, squid and all the extras I needed for a proxy and email server. All was fine until I switched the machine off. I had changed the resolution before and all was working fine. Now I have lost my gui , the system starts O.K but goes blank after "starting udev". I can use webmin to administer the server from a nother desktop/laptop but the monitor is totally blank. I tried most configurations on the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file even tried to create a new one using X -configure but still nothing changed. I cant afford to reinstall because of the time it takes to update the box, our broadband connections are so expensive this end of the world (Zimbabwe) and not so efficient. I have looked at the logs and tried to google but the solutions wont work for me? I suspect there could be an issue with the intel graphics adapter?

CentOS 5 Hardware :: Sound Stopped Working On Dell Inspiron E1505

Sep 27, 2009

I have made sure the card is not muted using kmix, alsamixer, and running alsaunmute 0. It was working for some time and just stopped. I am not sure if getting rdesktop to work on the laptop caused the issue or not since that seems to be the last major thing I did. (missing my sipie.py). This is what I am working with:

CentOS 5 Networking :: RTL8111 / 8168B Not Working In Dell Studo Hybrid - Sort It?

Jan 30, 2009

This week I picked up a Dell Studio Hybrid and installed CentOS on it. I originally used 5.0 since I already had the DVD and the network card wasn't recognized at all (lspci recognized it but the card didn't show up in system-config-network). I then downloaded the 5.2 DVD and installed that. The network card then showed up in system-config-network but it still didn't work. If DHCP is enabled it tells me that no link is present, and if I manually configure it, I still can't ping the router. lspci reports the following about the network card:

02:00.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8111/8168B PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet controller (rev 02)

The driver used is r8169.

I put Fedora 10 on it and the network is working fine, but I'd rather run CentOS on this machine. Is the issue likely to be fixed with CentOS 5.3 or should I just stick with Fedora?

Fedora :: How To Enable Bluetooth On Dell Studio 1535

Jul 30, 2009

how to enable bluetooth on Dell Studio 1535.

From the Fedora 10 to the beginning of the Fedora 11, I was successfully enabling bluetooth device on my Dell laptop by putting hid2hci command as a system startup module:

Code:
# echo "/usr/sbin/hid2hci" > /etc/sysconfig/modules/bluetooth.modules
But the latest hid2hci command in bluez package now displays help information instead of turning on the (default?) bluetooth device:

[Code]...

Now your bluetooth device should be enabled during startup. Only one problem still exists, the state of the bluetooth device will be reset if you will turn it off using the hardware turnoff button. If you will turn it on again, you will be required to enter hid2hci command manually.

Red Hat :: Bluetooth Adapter Not Working

Apr 19, 2011

I am trying to get my bluetooth adapter to work in RHEL. The adapter is a Kensington Micro (K33902US). The system detects the device, but it fails to find any networks when I do a scan using hcitool. Also, I wrote a small C program to do the same, with the same results (no network found). The bluetooth manager appears in the panel, but when I right-click, the only option I have is to check/uncheck "Discoverable". I have tried restarting bluetooth using "service bluetooth restart" to no avail.I tried borrowing an adapter from a friend (some DLINK) that seemed to work fine for both hcitool and my program. The problem just seems to be in Red Hat's ability to use this particular device.

OpenSUSE :: Bluetooth Not Working After Installing 11.1?

Dec 20, 2008

Bluetooth was working in KDE 4.1 in openSUSE 11.0 with no problems. I install openSUSE 11.1 and now the bluetooth icon that should show up in the system tray no longer shows up. If I hit Ctrl + Esc I can see kbluetooth4 in "System Activity". All that's changed is I did a fresh install (I don't do upgrades) of openSUSE 11.1 with the same KDE I was running in 11.0. I would like to know what's broke even if I can't fix it. I hate not knowing why something isn't doing what it's suppose to be doing.

Debian Installation :: Bluetooth Not Working On Jessie

Mar 20, 2015

How to get Toshiba Satellite's bluetooth to work. Here is output that I think may be useful.... but I could be wrong. Pretty much everything I have found is outdated, has dead links, or didn't work.

So far, I've learned (at least from what I've understood) it has to do with kernel drivers/modules not working. I'm on Jessie right now since my graphics driver didn't work on the stable kernel.

Fedora Hardware :: Asus G51 Bluetooth Not Working F12

How to get my bluetooth working thats integrated in my laptop (Asus g51).

I have the tools installed that manage things, but it doesn't see anything.

Any troubleshooting tips?

I have tried looking for something in the output of lsusb, lshal, and lspci. No dice there. The Bluetooth application (bluetooth-properties) doesn't see an adapter present. And there is nothing in dmesg either. The device worked under Ubuntu 9.10 and of course the preload of Vista that came on the machine when I got it from the store.

I've install bluez-utils and can do an hcitool dev and see my bluetooth dongle, and I if I use hcitool scan, and press the connect button on my keyboard, the keyboard shows up with it mac address. It won't connect at this point though, so I have to issue a sudo hidd --connec00:11:22:AA:BB:CC and get it to connect.Unfortunately, if I reboot or turn off the keyboard, it doesn't work again without SSHing in and redoing the steps above. Does anyone have an idea to get my keyboard working at startup?
