OpenSUSE :: Bluetooth Not Working After Installing 11.1?
Dec 20, 2008
Bluetooth was working in KDE 4.1 in openSUSE 11.0 with no problems. I install openSUSE 11.1 and now the bluetooth icon that should show up in the system tray no longer shows up. If I hit Ctrl + Esc I can see kbluetooth4 in "System Activity". All that's changed is I did a fresh install (I don't do upgrades) of openSUSE 11.1 with the same KDE I was running in 11.0. I would like to know what's broke even if I can't fix it. I hate not knowing why something isn't doing what it's suppose to be doing.

I've had a number of problems with bluetooth running under Gnome ubuntu 10.10 on a Dell Inspiron N7010 with Dell Wireless 365 Bluetooth Module. I mainly use bluetooth to browse files on my phone. I would frequently get file transfers to the phone hang. And, the bluetooth icon would disappear from the taskbar after after a resume from sleep. At first, I thought the fix from here would help, but it didn't entirely fix the problem.
Later, I realized that the problem showed up after I had installed KDE. Then I found that uninstalling bluedevil, the bluetooth stack for KDE, made everything better. So now I have working bluetooth again.

I am trying to get my bluetooth adapter to work in RHEL. The adapter is a Kensington Micro (K33902US). The system detects the device, but it fails to find any networks when I do a scan using hcitool. Also, I wrote a small C program to do the same, with the same results (no network found). The bluetooth manager appears in the panel, but when I right-click, the only option I have is to check/uncheck "Discoverable". I have tried restarting bluetooth using "service bluetooth restart" to no avail.I tried borrowing an adapter from a friend (some DLINK) that seemed to work fine for both hcitool and my program. The problem just seems to be in Red Hat's ability to use this particular device.

I have a canon pixma mp640. Under opensuse 11.2 64 bit the printer worked (printing and scanning via wifi). I recently reinstalled my system with 11.3 64 bit, and after installing the canon rpms and creating the printer I get the following error in /var/log/cups/error_log:

But when I start blueman-applet the icon on the toolbar is like white with a red 'x' in the centre of it, which doesn't seem right. I'm using fluxbox as my WM so don't know if that's the reason, but blueman isn't responding when I try to setup the device with gui (blueman-applet). My groups for my user are.

How to get Toshiba Satellite's bluetooth to work. Here is output that I think may be useful.... but I could be wrong. Pretty much everything I have found is outdated, has dead links, or didn't work.
So far, I've learned (at least from what I've understood) it has to do with kernel drivers/modules not working. I'm on Jessie right now since my graphics driver didn't work on the stable kernel.

How to get my bluetooth working thats integrated in my laptop (Asus g51).
I have the tools installed that manage things, but it doesn't see anything.
Any troubleshooting tips?
I have tried looking for something in the output of lsusb, lshal, and lspci. No dice there. The Bluetooth application (bluetooth-properties) doesn't see an adapter present. And there is nothing in dmesg either. The device worked under Ubuntu 9.10 and of course the preload of Vista that came on the machine when I got it from the store.

I run ubuntu 9.10. I recently convinced my wife to give it a shot. The problem is, the bluetooth dongle is detected and the icon appears when its plugged in, the mouse is found and says it is pointing in bluetooth manager but it does not move the cursor on the screen. I have tried 2 different dongles and both work correctly and control the mouse on my asus laptop. She is using a toshiba satelite. Both dongles show up in lsusb as hci0. I've tried everything on the forums and everything I could think of but no go. If she doesn't have use of the mouse for farmville I will be in trouble.

I have a minimal lucid install to run XBMC with only xinit x11-xserver-utils installed no GUI. I'm trying to get my Logitech Dinovo Edge working via bluetooth. I've install bluez-utils and can do an hcitool dev and see my bluetooth dongle, and I if I use hcitool scan, and press the connect button on my keyboard, the keyboard shows up with it mac address. It won't connect at this point though, so I have to issue a sudo hidd --connec00:11:22:AA:BB:CC and get it to connect.Unfortunately, if I reboot or turn off the keyboard, it doesn't work again without SSHing in and redoing the steps above. Does anyone have an idea to get my keyboard working at startup?

I am leaving my bluetooth MAC out. I can't connect to my phone with bluetooth anymore! obex doesn't work and even when it pairs, it just crashes.Using nautilus I get:
Code:
Could not display "obex://[xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx]".
Error: Connection to the device lost
Please select another viewer and try again.
Using the Bluetooth gnome applet:
I select "Browse Files On Device", select the phone once paired, and then nothing happens. I know that it is paired because I can push contact info to the computer. Unfortunately photos and such require I browse the device. This had previously worked on Ubuntu 8.04 LTS before I upgraded to 10.04.

Trying to enable bluetooth (internal) on my Acer Aspire One D255. Despite bluetooth issues in general, here is the kicker: Acer decided to combine the fn+F3 key and fn+F2 key into one uber-network key. In windows 7 you hit fn+F3 and you get two options on your screen: enable/disable wireless + enable/disable bluetooth. Not so Ubuntu. I hit fn+F3 and it does various things to my wireless or my bluetooth every 3rd or 4th press. Disabling or enabling both... or neither. Very frustrating.
1) How does one remap the fn+F# keys (one for each)
2) Is there any other bluetooth voodoo for the bluetooth on this machine?

Code:
sudo killall bluetoothd
sudo bluetoothd
and then remove and set up the bluetooth mouse (using an auxiliary USB mouse, of course ) through the bluetooth preferences dialogue.how to carry out the remove/set-up process using a non-interactive shell script?

Basically, it is a Bluetooth scanner that is designed to do just one thing, scan for discoverable devices in range and record their MAC, name, and the time/date they were found to a log file. There are only a few options, it is pretty much a set it and forget it sort of thing. The only requirements are BlueZ (3.x or 4.x), and that your computer has a Bluetooth device that is supported by Linux.
Obviously you will also need at least one device to scan for, and the more the better. If you want to take a walk through your mall while running it and seeing what you found, I would be ecstatic. A word of warning, I am not a very good C programmer and I have no doubt that there are mistakes in the code and improvements that could be made. You can download the source and get a little more specific information about it from: [URL].

I have used usb bluetooth with Nokia 2730 and 6300 several months without problems. Last succeeded operation was downloading new ringing sound about 4 weeks ago. When I open connection is OK but When I now try to see folders in cameras it does not work, I'll got message that camera with "mac code" did not response. Cameras show that connection pair is Ok. Reinstalling does not help. Using Ubuntu 9.1, kernel is 2.6.31-20 generic. I have made all updates.

I have a laptop. . .Dell 1150. Ubuntu installed, bluetooth device installed and my bluetooth keyboard and mouse works like a charm. I decided to load up my same exact Ibuntu on my desktop, use the same keyboard on it, and the mouse too. I tested it on the laptop, just in case it would not work in Ibuntu, and I didn't want to wipe out my Windows XP on my desktop and find out Ibuntu would not work on it with a wireless keyboard. Since it worked very well with my laptop, I figured it would work just as good with my desktop. I wiped my desktop out, and installed Ibuntu. Everything worked fantastic. Until I tried to install the bluetooth.
When I plug in my Bluetooth device, Ibuntu finds it and asks to set up your device. I attempt to set up my keyboard/mouse combo and it asks for a 6 digit code (like it is supposed to). I enter the code and press enter. From here, the problem starts. Ubuntu "claims" to connect to the keyboard, shows it connected, but my keyboard does not work at all. Neither does the mouse that is built into the keyboard. I type and nothing happens. This also brings up (sometimes) another message that says my keyboard is trying to connect to the bluetooth device please enter keyboard PIN. Well.
I can't enter anything, because the keyboard does not work! The mouse does not work! I can (without any problems) disconnect and connect to my laptop, but I can't do this to my desktop. Both are dell units. Desktop is about 3 years old, laptop is about 8 years old. Both running Ubuntu, the latest version. Both recognize the bluetooth transceiver. I have tried different USB ports on the desktop with no avail. I would really like to use my desktop as a unit to my TV with a wireless keyboard, not my laptop. It is much faster, more memory, and I can use the TV as a monitor.
