Our school has a small 3-computer lab in the preschool department where the kids come in and simply use Firefox to access some educational websites. Due to logistics in the building they're in we had to go with a wireless solution in the following setup:
- Apple Airport Extreme WAP
- 3 HP DX2200 desktops running Ubuntu 10.10
- 3 Trendnet TEW-664UB USB wifi chips
All was running great until we got the computers installed on site and now they are constantly dropping the wifi connection if they are even able to connect at all (which is highly hit or miss).
10.10 picked up the USB wifi card as soon as we plugged them in and showed the available networks, but actually obtaining and keeping connections is a nightmare at the point. The computers are in very close proximity to each other (only about 2-3 feet between computers) and the WAP is in the next room (other computers and mobile devices are able to connect to the WAP with full signal from the same room/location). Thats about all the detail I have off the top of my head, could this be an interference issue with the wifi cards or does this sound like an Ubunutu issue? Again we have had multiple other devices in that room all able to connect seamlessly.
I saved the file when I was at my hotel as a .doc file, and it had 7 or 8 pages written. I forget the file size. I'm here at the airport now, and as I load this file up to work on it, it says it's 0 bytes. What the hell happened? I'm freaking out because I *need* those notes to write my paper. I didn't really make a dent but it was still a good amount of progress! Does the file not opening have to do with switching wifi connections?
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen the audio output of my laptop (running ubuntu 10.04 LTS) is configured to play via bluetooth to my bluetooth receiver (like a headset, a Belken H15 A2DP audio stream), my wifi connection is severely degraded (..... keeps pausing to buffer data). Then when I switch the audio output from the bluetooth device to the soundcard (without disconnecting the bluetooth device), you can see ..... suddenly start buffering and working fine again until I switch back to the bluetooth receiver.Other bluetooth devices (like my Droid) connect to the receiver just fine, but not this laptop.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI installed the bleeding edge drivers using a guide I was referred to from the wiki, when I was having intermittent wifi connections. It worked well for about two days, but now it's just as intermittent as before, and it works just fine in OSX and on other machines, so I'm thinking I need to change the driver.
How do I go about installing another driver? Which ones have you had luck with for a MacBook Pro Santa Rosa 3,1 running lucid under 64 bits?
I have a problem with wifi network, installed ubuntu a few days ago.I have bcm 4312 wireless adapter, activated the broadcom STA driver, until this moment i didnt update the OS,just out of the box OS, with activated wireless STA driver. After reboot ,the wifi was working, it found some networks, but it wont connect.Im trying to connect to a WPA2-personal , AES encryption network,i type in the password, im 100% sure i type it correctly, but it wont connect, it just asks for password again and again.I was thinking maybe i should update the OS, and i did it, after the update, i checked the STA driver, it was activated, working fine, but this time Network Manager didnt find any networks,as if there is no wireless device. How can i fix this ?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have ubuntu installed 9.04 and couldnt get wifi working.. I also had bluetooth working.
Now I installed or updated to 9.10 version and still cant get wifi started. I cant even turn it on or find networks etc. Im confused bad.
Also when updating I have lost bluetooth. How do I get both of these working..
Now if I could have a step by step process, even if someone makes a video..
I've been searching for a couple of hours and have not found any threads that solve my situation... hope I'm not repeating something here.
Setup: Notebook with openSUSE 11.2 using KDE 4. Using Network Manager to manage network connection (although I've tried configuring this using ifup as well with no luck).
I need to be able to connect to client networks via a network cable (Ethernet) and connect to the internet via my MiFi 2200 Mobile WiFi. Both cards/connections are active with the following:
I have no problem mounting drives from the client's network. But, can not reach the internet. If I disconnect the ethernet cable, the browser will immediately connect to the internet and load web pages.
I'm assuming the ethernet connection is taking precedence over the wireless connection?
I can't imagine that there is not a way to set this up. If Windows can do it, I'm sure openSUSE can!
I have two problem with my wireless card:
- When I connect myself to a wireless network I must give the dhclient command, to obtain a local ip address
- The system say me that haven't a bluetooth adapter, and so I can't use bluetooh services (I've try by graphical interface and by console)
These problems began when I've passed to ubuntu 10.04!
My Wireless card is: Intel Corporation Wireless WiFi Link 5100
I recently installed the Rhythmweb plugin. I can go to http://localhost:8000 on my own machine and control it that way, so I know that functions properly. My issue is my phone finding the correct path. I have it bluetooth synced, with the laptop device's name being "peter-laptop" (I reset it to the default just for clarity's sake), and my laptop and phone are both on the same wifi network as well.
I have tried many variants of peter-laptop.local:8000 and peter-laptop:8000 but no luck, in opera or the default blackberry browser.
Suddenly after a long time with fedora (now with fedora 15), bluetooth and wifi not working on my laptop (now I'm connected to cable), I checked the network in console doing this:#systemctl status network.serviceAnd response:network.service - LSB: Bring up/down networkingLoaded: loaded (/etc/rc.d/init.d/network)Active: failed since Sat, 03 Sep 2011 21:18:24 +0200; 1min 50s agoProcess: 2949 ExecStart=/etc/rc.d/init.d/network start (code=exited, status=1/FAILURE)CGroup: name=systemd:/system/network.serviceInstead I do the same query with the bluetooth service and gives me all OK, but does not work, I do not

i've just installed openSUSE 11.3 on my dell studio xps 1640. but i have problem with my WLAN . it's a WLAN 1640 mini-card and i think there is no problem with driver. because it seems that it's installed correctly but i can't see any wireless networks (it says "Device is not ready"). is there any suggestions?by the way, when i turn my wireless to on (it's a touch key not a switch) only my bluetooth indicator is enabled not my wifi indicator.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI run ubuntu 9.10. I recently convinced my wife to give it a shot. The problem is, the bluetooth dongle is detected and the icon appears when its plugged in, the mouse is found and says it is pointing in bluetooth manager but it does not move the cursor on the screen. I have tried 2 different dongles and both work correctly and control the mouse on my asus laptop. She is using a toshiba satelite. Both dongles show up in lsusb as hci0. I've tried everything on the forums and everything I could think of but no go. If she doesn't have use of the mouse for farmville I will be in trouble.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a minimal lucid install to run XBMC with only xinit x11-xserver-utils installed no GUI. I'm trying to get my Logitech Dinovo Edge working via bluetooth. I've install bluez-utils and can do an hcitool dev and see my bluetooth dongle, and I if I use hcitool scan, and press the connect button on my keyboard, the keyboard shows up with it mac address. It won't connect at this point though, so I have to issue a sudo hidd --connec00:11:22:AA:BB:CC and get it to connect.Unfortunately, if I reboot or turn off the keyboard, it doesn't work again without SSHing in and redoing the steps above. Does anyone have an idea to get my keyboard working at startup?

I select "Browse Files On Device", select the phone once paired, and then nothing happens. I know that it is paired because I can push contact info to the computer. Unfortunately photos and such require I browse the device. This had previously worked on Ubuntu 8.04 LTS before I upgraded to 10.04.

Trying to enable bluetooth (internal) on my Acer Aspire One D255. Despite bluetooth issues in general, here is the kicker: Acer decided to combine the fn+F3 key and fn+F2 key into one uber-network key. In windows 7 you hit fn+F3 and you get two options on your screen: enable/disable wireless + enable/disable bluetooth. Not so Ubuntu. I hit fn+F3 and it does various things to my wireless or my bluetooth every 3rd or 4th press. Disabling or enabling both... or neither. Very frustrating.
1) How does one remap the fn+F# keys (one for each)
2) Is there any other bluetooth voodoo for the bluetooth on this machine?

I've just upgraded my Ubuntu installation to 11.04 and my bluetooth mouse (Logitech Bluetooth Laser Travel Mouse) is not correctly recognized at start-up. Every time I restart my computer I have to run the following commands in a terminal
Code:
sudo killall bluetoothd
sudo bluetoothd
and then remove and set up the bluetooth mouse (using an auxiliary USB mouse, of course ) through the bluetooth preferences dialogue.how to carry out the remove/set-up process using a non-interactive shell script?
I installed recently ubuntu 11.04, everything is ok except the bluetooth. When I try to open the bluetooth from the icon it freezes and doesn't do anything.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a laptop. . .Dell 1150. Ubuntu installed, bluetooth device installed and my bluetooth keyboard and mouse works like a charm. I decided to load up my same exact Ibuntu on my desktop, use the same keyboard on it, and the mouse too. I tested it on the laptop, just in case it would not work in Ibuntu, and I didn't want to wipe out my Windows XP on my desktop and find out Ibuntu would not work on it with a wireless keyboard. Since it worked very well with my laptop, I figured it would work just as good with my desktop. I wiped my desktop out, and installed Ibuntu. Everything worked fantastic. Until I tried to install the bluetooth.
When I plug in my Bluetooth device, Ibuntu finds it and asks to set up your device. I attempt to set up my keyboard/mouse combo and it asks for a 6 digit code (like it is supposed to). I enter the code and press enter. From here, the problem starts. Ubuntu "claims" to connect to the keyboard, shows it connected, but my keyboard does not work at all. Neither does the mouse that is built into the keyboard. I type and nothing happens. This also brings up (sometimes) another message that says my keyboard is trying to connect to the bluetooth device please enter keyboard PIN. Well.
I can't enter anything, because the keyboard does not work! The mouse does not work! I can (without any problems) disconnect and connect to my laptop, but I can't do this to my desktop. Both are dell units. Desktop is about 3 years old, laptop is about 8 years old. Both running Ubuntu, the latest version. Both recognize the bluetooth transceiver. I have tried different USB ports on the desktop with no avail. I would really like to use my desktop as a unit to my TV with a wireless keyboard, not my laptop. It is much faster, more memory, and I can use the TV as a monitor.
Recently i install fedora 13 on my dell laptop 1555 , and got to know that the bluetooth of my laptop is not working , when i click turn on bluetooth nothing is happen . u guys share our skill how can make my laptop bluetooth working
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to get my bluetooth adapter to work in RHEL. The adapter is a Kensington Micro (K33902US). The system detects the device, but it fails to find any networks when I do a scan using hcitool. Also, I wrote a small C program to do the same, with the same results (no network found). The bluetooth manager appears in the panel, but when I right-click, the only option I have is to check/uncheck "Discoverable". I have tried restarting bluetooth using "service bluetooth restart" to no avail.I tried borrowing an adapter from a friend (some DLINK) that seemed to work fine for both hcitool and my program. The problem just seems to be in Red Hat's ability to use this particular device.

I had Bluetooth PAN network working fine in Lucid. For some reason (mainly hardware) I had to upgrade to Maveric. After that my Bluetooth PAN network stopped working at all. I found out that server host do not even expose any PAN or GN profiles. The only profile it exposes is "Hands-free audio". Setting PAND_ENABLE=1 in '/etc/default/bluetooth' did not have any affect. I attempted to start PAND in listening mode and it exposed PAN profile but any connection was unsuccessful. When I try to connect to any other PAN profile it also had no success with 'Permission denied' message.
