I tried to install Debian 8.1 on Lenovo Edge 125, but on stage ''detecting network hardware' of install process my laptop stopped and froze, so I don't know what to do. (Previously I've installed Debian 6 or 7 on this laptop and every thing was OK).

This is an attempt to install stretch over the top of Windows 10 on a Toshiba Radius 15 with 2 each USB2 ports and 2 each USB3 ports, and no RJ-45. Its wireless is based upon the Intel 7265. Just before the presentation of the wireless list, the system reports the need to install non-free:

and asks for media. Whether I respond yes or no, the driver selection screen comes up. [I have not been able to find those four specific files on the Internet.The network card screen comes up, I select the Intel recommended firmware iwlsifi, but the page just recreates itself and waits for a new selection. If I select either 'none' or 'not listed', the installation fails saying there is no network card.I have obtained from Intel their suggestion as of Aug 2015: iwlwifi-7265-ucode-25.30.14.0.tgz.I placed this on a USB stick in a subdirectory labeled 'firmware'. This was built from Windows 7 on a FAT32 file system.
There is also a Dynadock docking station that connects to the Toshiba via a USB3 cable. Besides video, USB,and audio, this has an Ethernet port. I have tried this connected to the laptop but it also requires a driver. I have placed that driver on the firmware directory of the USB also.
Are the four files listed above somehow inside the iwlwifi driver tgz?Is there a way to get the docking station drive to load so I can use its Ethernet port?
I have used Rufus to build the stretch USB from Windows. I do have a a Linux box I built with the same USB. I would use it but so far, I only have a command line on it and I have not figured out how to access debian.org to download the installation files nor how to put that on the stick.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a LMDE (Mint Linux Edition based on testing, now Wheezy) i386 that I just did a dist-upgrade on and now it isn't properly detecting my monitor resolution. I have two 1680x1050 monitors, one attached to the DVI and another to a VGA video switch. When I rebooted to the new 2.6.38-2-686 kernel both monitors were giving me 1024x768. I futzed around for a while and could then get the the DVI monitor to correctly identify the proper resolution, but the VGA monitor resolutely refused to see more than 1024x768.

Should I file a bug report, and if so, with whom? I have to say, the Debian bug report process is not too newbie (or even not-so-newbie) friendly, but I'd like to help if it doesn't require me to hand-configure a MUA.
Also, I suppose I shouldn't mention it in a single post, but my mouse is behaving rather unpredictably now (click speed, selecting), and trying to reboot dismounts the file system and then starts up again giving me my display manager (in my case KDM), without restarting the system (both from "sudo reboot" and trying to restart with KDM or the Gnome widget). If I really want to restart the system I have to halt it first and hit the power button.
I'm trying to make a fresh install of Ubuntu 10.04 on my system. I have 9.10 correctly setup on what I see here as devsda2. devsda3 does contain /home. devsda1 is for Vista. They are on a 500Gb hard drive. I also have a second 500Gb hard drive, formerly on a raid 0 with the first one, but now independent (raid deactivated from bios). It is here know as /dev/sdb, and contains other 3 partitions. Raid 0 is not hardware, but is an intel fake raid.
I then have other 4 drives, causing me NO problem.
I start live mode of Ubuntu 10.04 with noraid option. When I try to setup Ubuntu, during the process, where it comes to manually select partitions, the two 500Gb hard drives disappears, such that I'm not able to install Ubuntu on what now is /dev/sda2
If I start live mode of Ubuntu without noraid option, I will see the two 500Gb hd as being part of a raid 0, such that I can't use them.
The other 4 hd normally appear in both cases.

I've got a handy new Lenovo G560 running with OpenSUSE 11.3 64-bit. After a normal out-of-the-box installation the laptop speakers failed to mute when I plugged in headphones and I was only able to regulate the sound for both the speakers and the headphones simultaneously. Then I installed a whole lot of ALSA stuff and my sound devices were recognized as "PulseAudio server (local)". Speakers muted when I plugged in headphones - a big yay.
Now, though, my microphone doesn't work any more. It worked before, I'd talked on Skype with it, but upon trying to make a call with Skype today I noticed that it didn't work any more. Sound's turned up in KMix, so everything should be okay - does anybody know how to get my microphone working again?
I'm having problem in installing debian 7.5.0 on Dell Power Edge R 470 1U Rack Server ( Not Sure If am using RAID 1 ) whereby the hard drive is not detected. 1) Restart a processes if it crashes.
2) Restart a processes if it is stuck in an infinite loop.

The goal is to restart the process if it is stuck in a loop, inside the outer while loop. Given this scenario, what would be the most efficient way to monitor such a process?
A sample solution would look something like this: statement 3 will write to file1 every time it is executed and we know that the maximum execution time of the outer while loop is 30 seconds. A second, timer driven process, checks for file1 being modified every 30 seconds. If the file is not modified, process 1 will be restarted assuming, process1 is stuck in a while loop.
I downloading fedora 15 X64, when i want installing fedora in detecting hardware process, it is hanged! and not loaded but i easy install fedora 14. When some of process in fedora 15 loaded and show me please wait for detect hardware it is not work and like hanged.
View 5 Replies View RelatedThis laptop has been in the mainstream news as the cheapest Windows laptop available. Unfortunately it has a 64-bit CPU with 32-bit UEFI that dumps to the grub shell before installation. In addition, the built-in keyboard does not work.
As far as the dump to shell problem, this seems like something is not setup correctly in the grub UEFI configuration. This "hybrid" notebook should be using the multi-arch as I understand the situation. I noticed there is no grub configuration file in the multi-arch netinst ISO when I mounted it and looked around. I also noticed the standard netinst ISO is not easily mountable: there are errors when I try to mount the individual partitions to inspect the grub configuration. Additionally, Kubuntu boots perfectly aside from the keyboard issue. Devuan also boots when I modify the netinst to bypass gummiboot and use grub directly. Finally, the multi-arch grub shell freezes up when autocompleting and searching through the drives for the grub config, leading to a forced reboot. As an extra note, I tried 2 different flash drives and CD install media with the same results.
I tried many, many grub kernel combinations to fix the keyboard issue. It works in grub, but not in Linux. I was ultimately going to try a newer kernel to fix it.I was in a hurry to get something set up so back to the store it goes.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI've one lenovo 3000 g430 4152 laptop on which i have windows but previously installed debian 5.03 and for enabling the wireless i've to download broadcom b43legacy and install it by compiling because the backports kernel doesn't work with lenovo and after installing debian accidently switched of the wireless by the slide button on laptop
but on next boot i was not able to enable the wireless either by the slide button or fn+f5 which is the key for enabling it the wireless then on some forum i got advise that i can only re-enable by installing windows because lenovo drivers are available for only windows for this model... my question is that is there any solution for it in debian and also there is one more problem that i've to press fn+f8 twice on each boot for enabling the touchpad...

I'm looking to replace a six-year old machine (Athlon XP 3200+ processor (introduced in 2003), integrated graphics with no dedicated graphics card). I'm rocking Windows XP Home Edition (32 bit).
I'm not a "computer hobbyist," far from it. I use my machine mainly for browsing, word processing, and business (QuickBooks and Turbo Tax). It is a tool. I don't really enjoy fiddling around with computers. My current machine is now barely able to support a good research session on the 'Net anymore, the little processor seemingly gagging on the heavy flash content you see everywhere nowadays, the 2GB (the most she'll take) of RAM easily filled.
I'm planning some rough travel international motorcycle trips (see my motorcycle build thread here (don't worry about registering on this motorcycle forum.....they are good folks and I've never gotten any spam from them) and purchased, a while back, an Asus eee PC 901 with the OEM Xandros (a bastardized offshoot of Etch) loaded to use with those trips. From learning that OS, I saw for myself the benefits of Linux (vs. Windows). Of all the distros, Debian is the most attractive to me (even though I'm currently rocking Puppeee (new version) on the 901.....it makes that little machine zoooooom!) as I really like the package management system, the logic, and the stability. I also like the feeling of personal responsibility that comes with Debian.
So, back to the build. I'm currently planning on it being a pure Debian machine. I'm ready to move on from Windows, for reasons I don't have to explain here. I stated that I don't particularly care to "play" with computers, but I'm willing to put in some front end labor in order to enjoy a long-term, low-maintenance relationship with my new machine. With that philosophy in mind, I'm looking to build a machine that will serve my simple needs for ten years(!) So, since the costs will be spread out so far, I'm ready to drop some serious (for me) coin on this project in order to avoid having to go through what is, for me, a rather painful process of research again any time soon.
Trying to install squeeze again and everything has gone ok including network connection & partitioning & retrieved 916 packages from mirror.
But now installation has stopped completely at: Configuring ca-certificates

after finally being able to find the right configuration file for the Synaptics driver (I still think the change from HAL to udev was too silent...), I have gained the ability to configure my TouchPad. One Issue has been bothering me for a long time now: When moving the cursor from left to the right, at a certain position the mouse cursor jumps to the right edge of the screen.Here is the output of synclient while moving the finger constantly from left to right to illustrate the issue:

Note that the value of RightEdge was changed by me in order to see if it has something to do with the issue. It has not, the cursor jumps at the same position, regardless of this value.
Used to be it worked fine natively in 'direct' mode. I didn't need to do any bluetooth setup, I just booted and it worked in BIOS and in Debian. Then one day after a dist-upgrade it quit. I fussed with it for two days, finally installing the Bluez software and trying to make it work as a true bluetooth keyboard/mouse. That's how it's been for six months.

It will not hardware pair once X is started. I've tried it with the bluetooth service started and stopped. Something is preventing it from pairing.
i have searched the forum but can't find the solution for stalling network in the middle of something. i have to restart the computer. i cannot rely ubuntu for 24 hours non-stop small server. the stalling problem occurs when I start pulling/downloading via samba or sftp (smb:// or sftp://) from another computers/device (like wdtv). when i check the lenovo, all internet connecetion is dead. ifconfig shows the ip but it just dead.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to get my friend's laptop(acer travelmate 2200) to connect to his wireless network. I just installed a new hard drive and installed a dual boot windows xp/ Ubuntu 9.04 setup.
His laptop still connects fine with the old hard drive with windows XP installed, so I know the hardware is working.
When I click on the network manager , however, I don't see anything. Normally , I'd just hit the network manager and I'd see the available connections , but on this laptop I'm not detecting any.
The only thing I can think of , is that Ubuntu doesn't have the proper drivers needed for the wireless card in the laptop. But I don't know how to go about checking this since whenever I've done this before it's always just worked automatically.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI found out that my installation was incomplete. So I reinstalled Debian using the businesscard image on a DVD. It worked fine, but I have a hardware constraint on my computer. I have two SATA hard drives and one SATA CD/DVD drive, and only two SATA connections on the motherboard. So, to install Debian I had to remove one hard drive and put the CD/DVD drive. When I saw that Debian was working, I removed the CD/DVD drive, and that's when Debian stopped booting. It said it couldn't find tty and opened BusyBox, giving me a command-line interface, and the line started with (initramfs) before the commands (with the parenthesis).
