I am trying to install the reiserfs drivers to read/write to my external drive. But keep getting command not found. Although the system can get man pages for modprobe.
modprobe reiserfs bash: modprobe: command not found
I also need to know how to add myself to the sudoers file. I have already tried visudo but this has not worked.
I download the xxxx.tar.bz2 file extracted it, when i run ./configure under the directory i get the following error code...
i even followed the link http://wiki.winehq.org/WineOn64bit also http://forum.winehq.org/viewtopic.php?p=28622&sid=17383eb0b922b2c230238f9ab50b265a. and several googling. i think the architect of the OS and the wine is not matching. So guide me to solve the above problem.
I am using Sandisk 2GB micro SD card on ARM processor EP9307A. The card is detected, mounted. I can read data from the SD card. But cannot write to it. There is no error when I attempt to write to the Card. It appears as if its working fine. But after umount and re-mount, the data written is gone.
Here is the log when the SD card is detected: # insmod drv card size = 1977614336, sector size = 31, wp_grp_size = 127, wp_grp_enable = y S:00001000 M:fffff000
What is the significance of Write Group Protect Enable (wp_grp_enable=y). Is it the case that the SD card is write protected.
Using CMD9 : SEND_CSD , I can read the Card Specific Data (CSD). I have tried CMD27 : PROGRAM_CSD , to CLEAR wr_grp_enable : No effect seen. I have tried CMD29 : CLEAR_WRITE_PROT ,: No effect seen.
Where is the issue, 1. I could not send commands properly. 2. Card cannot be set free from WRITE_PROTECT. 3. Something else.
I want to migrate my Debian server to CenOS. The Debian server has the following partition layout code...
When I try to map Logical Volume 'home' to '/home' en choose the 'Leave unchanged (preserve data)' option I get the following error:
The current requested size ( 947904.00 MB) is larger than maximum logical volume size ( 262144.00 MB). To increase this limit you can create more Physical Volumes from unpartitioned disk space and add them to this Volume Group.
When I am in run level 5, I attempt to delete some 'trash' that has accumulated in the 'Trash' icon on my Desktop/.
When I right click the icon and select the 'empty trash' option, I get a permissions error so I just press the 'cancel' option however the contents of the 'Trash' have been purged anyways. It is working basically but I don't understand why I am getting a permissions error.

I have minor problem with upgrading a hard drive. I am running an old pentium lll with two hard drives. On the first hard drive I have two partitions of around 90GB each. On the first partition is installed winXP and on the second partition I have Suse 10.3, both booted by grub and living happily side by side. My second hard drive (which is formatted for windows is only 4GB.
My problem arises when I try to replace the 4GB with a 80Gb hard drive. When I disconnect the 4GB drive the system fails to boot up and complains with error 21.
I am trying to install Centos 5.6 on a motherboard with a built in Marvel 88SE61xx drive controller.NO drive arrays are configured using the Marvel BIOS configuration utility.During the install CENTOS displays loading MARVEL_PATA driver and it waits and waits and waits.Looking on one of the system message screens I get the following types of messages:qc timeoutfailed to identifyI/O errorLink is slow to respondSRST failed errno=16ata4: reset failed - giving upAny ideas as to how to get CENTOS to recognize the drives connected to the motherboard Marvell controller on a NON-RAID configuration?
I'm trying to install the GD library from the Add/remove software app, but it will not install because it says that it can't resolve a dependency "PHP-common", however, this IS installed, yet it keeps giving me this error. Is there a work around to this or a way to fix the dependencies problem?
Machine is a Dell PE 1750. Previously running 5.2 or 5.1 32 bit. Tried to install 5.3 i386 but getting this error,

I have have Centos 5.3 which does not save files to USB drives. after copying over file to an empty drive the files are shown on the drive and can be opened and edited but when the drive is removed and reinserted the drive is empty again even though I have told the it to remove the device. I suspect that the file cache is not being flushed correctly. Is there a way of checking this and forcing it to flush the file cache if this is the problem?
i have Elastix (( Centos )) machine runing and have many configrations i need to take iso iamge from it and use it directly for any othe machine ? How to this step bby step ??
I'm trying to install a dual booting machine with OpenSUSE v11.1 32bit and CentOS v5.2 64bit. I installed OpenSUSE first and allowed it to install and configure grub in the MBR and after that I wanted to proceed with CentOS v5.2. The installation went fine with two notable exceptions:- when I had to configure grub installation parameters, CentOS offered me only 2 solutions: either install it on the MBR of the first hard disk or not installing it at all. Other distributions are more flexible allowing you to install it in the boot sector of the root partition for example. Because I didn't want to ruin the existent grub onfiguration, I reluctantly accepted not to install it for CentOS assuming that I could manually configure the entry later in grub's menu.lst file.
- when I was presented with the options for software components installation, I've clicked on virtualization category/function because I intend to use the machine as a VMware host. There was no guidance on screen at that point and I blindly assumed that by choosing the virtualization function I would get necessary tools and drivers that will help me further on. It seems that this was a wrong move as you can see it below.
After completing the installation, I tried to search for a template or guiding on how the menu entry in menu.lst should look like but the grub directory was empty, not surprisingly because I've told CentOS earlier not to install it. Using the files in the /boot directory from the CentOS installation I tried to improvise a menu entry but it's not working. The boot stops with famous Error 13: Invalid or unsupported executable format. Using the file command to check what kind of files I'm trying to load as kernels I'm getting :
marte:~ # file /mnt/vmlinuz-2.6.18-92.el5xen /mnt/vmlinuz-2.6.18-92.el5xen: gzip compressed data, from Unix, last modified: Tue Jun 10 19:20:51 2008, max compression
After installing the "fuse" and "fuse-ntfs-3g" packages, my ntfs formatted thumb drive mounts read only, as follows:# mount.../dev/sdb1 on /media/disk type fuseblk (rw,noexec,nosuid,nodev,allow_other,default_permissions,blksize=4096)
I have an external USB hard drive (sdb1) mounted at /media/Iomega HDD. When I try to do a chmod to a directory on this drive, chmod doesn't give me an error, but it doesn't change the privs - even when I'm root. Why is this?

Just done a fresh install of squeeze (basic install then installed X, WM and a few applications) and I find that I am unable to get an xterm up and running (same goes for rxvt-unicode (urxvt) and uxterm). The same problem occurs with both Openbox and DWM window managers.
I am trying to run though the qmailrocks setup on a centos 5.5 and I am running into an issue when trying to telnet to port 25:
telnet localhost 25 Trying 127.0.0.1... Connected to localhost.localdomain (127.0.0.1). Escape character is '^]'. Connection closed by foreign host.
Everything else seems to be working (telnet to 110), and I turned off the firewall entirely, but I still cannot telnet to port 25. I also get a blank error within squirrelmail when attempting to send mail out (ERROR:Message not sent. Server replied: ). I apologize for not going directly to the qmailrocks forum, but they are currently closed down (due to lack of funds). I also am a newbie, so I apologize for the lack of needed information. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know what information you would need.
every time i try to update. The number of bytes sometimes changes but it ends up always failing to download the full 862kB and suggests checking my Internet connection.... which is fine.
I just downloaded OpenSUSE 11.4. After burning the iso and trying to install I get a "cannot exec bcedit.exe" error and the install fails. Has anyone else had this happen and what do I do now?
I tried to install openwebmail via yum repository as explained in here: [url]
The problem is openwebmail has a dependency on perl-Compress-Zlib that conflicts with perl-IO-Compress that is needed by amavisd and clamav. The error message looks like that:
i borrowed an external hard drive from my friend to back up a load of stuff on my windows partition before reinstalling it. I am doing this through ubuntu. I am trying to zip up folders like My Documents etc and chuck them on the external hard drive but it always comes up with errors to do with read/write permissions. In the permissions tab on the folder properties of the ext hard drive it says I am owner but i have no file access (only folder access is create and delete files). When i try to give myself read/write permission it just goes straight back to nothing when i look at it again.
I made a clean install of opense Suse and by mistake I overwrited the menu.lst (because of the restoration utility). As a result I have the grub error 15 : file not found, and tried everything I could think.
Grub is installed on the MBR and boots from the extended partition. The new openSuse is on sda8, there is an old openSuse on sda4 but xorg is broken. I can boot on Windows, and sda4, but not on sda8 menu.lst
Im having a major problem with mysql-server failing to install. The installation stoppes on "Running Transactions" (have tried waiting for 10 minutes). Not new to CentOS, which I've installed on a few servers. I'm trying to turn a very old laptop (11 years ?), Toshiba Tecra 540cdt (with the latest available BIOS), into a home server. It runs Windows 2000 fine, and was earlier running some Mandriva versions. I'm trying a multi-boot install, from CD1of6. It does boot from the CD, then shows: boot: Loading vmlinuz... Loading initrd.img... then reboots, and goes through the same cycle. I switched the hard disk, same result. I have problems too if I try to install the latest Knoppix. An older Knoppix, 5.1 with kernel 2.6.19, will boot.

I have a Toshiba A205 S5804 laptop that had Vista Home Premium installed. Tried to install Centos 5 (2.6.18-8-el5) and when I went through the install process, X Server failed to start so I had to go thorough the command line install. Once the install completed, it only booted to console.
The default resolution for this laptop is 1280X800 but I dont know if that is why or not. if anyone has a clue about my issue, please let me know.. I really dont want to install windows.
I wanna install adobe flash player with yum but it fails to download, I think there may be something wrong with the repositories. I have a problem installing CentOS 5.5 over lan. I set up a dhcp3 server and it works, client got an ip. I set up a tftpd-hpa server and it works, client can boot the install image of CentOS 5.5 I set up an apache server and it seems to be impossible... In the installation marathon I clicked through the menu to the choice of the web server where my installation files are available. I enter the ip 192.168.138.1 and the path CentOS-5.5 and CentOS tells me "Unable to retrieve http://192.168.138.1//CentOS-5.5/images/stage2.img" . Thats right because the two slashes are not right. Where the hell come the two slashes from???
