CentOS 5 :: Permission Error On Gnome Trash / Solution For This?
Nov 20, 2008
When I am in run level 5, I attempt to delete some 'trash' that has accumulated in the 'Trash' icon on my Desktop/.
When I right click the icon and select the 'empty trash' option, I get a permissions error so I just press the 'cancel' option however the contents of the 'Trash' have been purged anyways. It is working basically but I don't understand why I am getting a permissions error.

CentOS amd64 fresh installed two weeks ago. Turned off nightly per company policy. Turned on this morning, logged in, started firefox, surfed a bit, minimized, and then noticed that the bottom toolbar is empty except for the trashcan in the far right end. No alternate desktops, no minimized firefox screens, nothing.

I download the xxxx.tar.bz2 file
extracted it,
when i run ./configure under the directory i get the following error code...
i even followed the link http://wiki.winehq.org/WineOn64bit
also http://forum.winehq.org/viewtopic.php?p=28622&sid=17383eb0b922b2c230238f9ab50b265a. and several googling.
i think the architect of the OS and the wine is not matching.
So guide me to solve the above problem.
the output i get on "uname -i"

This started happening last week. Whenever I try to delete a file that is not in my /home directory I get the message:
Cannot move file to trash, do you want to delete immediately.
I have found a couple threads in the forums about this issue, but it has always been associated with windows or samba shares.
This is happening on my computer, not on a shared folder or through samba. Its a little frustrating to say the least.

I want to migrate my Debian server to CenOS. The Debian server has the following partition layout code...
When I try to map Logical Volume 'home' to '/home' en choose the 'Leave unchanged (preserve data)' option I get the following error:
The current requested size ( 947904.00 MB) is larger than maximum logical volume size ( 262144.00 MB).
To increase this limit you can create more Physical Volumes from unpartitioned disk space and add them to this Volume Group.

I am unable to install CentOS V5.4 on my work station.
After collecting the config info (root password, etc.) the installation immediately gets disk write errors while doing PVCREATE.
I'm installing from the DVD to the 136GB SCSI drive. The drive is known to be good and is writable as a Windows
volume.
The scsi drive is the only drive selected for installation.
I've selected to delete all partitions on the volume and install default configuration however the new partition is not created. code...

Seeing this on two systems that went through F13-F14 upgrade.
version: gnome-applets-2.32.0-1.fc14.x86_64
symptom: via right click on a gnome panel, perform "add to panel" and choose Dwell Click.
Gnome panel bites the dust with SIGSEGV at this point, restarts, and then you've got dwell click on the panel.
Anyone else seeing this, and better yet, have a solution?

I have built gnome-2.28.1 from scratch (source) with gnome I compiled GDM and many other programs. GDM is starting fine, I can enter my user on the login prompt and login without problems. When I'm in the desktop I can't access the Computer or Trash locations clicking on the icon or even through Nautilus, the same error happening:
Error: Operation not supported.
I tried debugging by hand running the follow command: gvfs-ls trash://
Which tells me exactly Error: Operation not supported.
On my ubuntu system, lsof | grep gvfs returns a lot of gvfsd* daemons, like gvfsd-computer and gvfsd-trash. On my Scratch system lsof | grep gvfs doesn't return anything. My prefix used when building gnome was /opt/gnome and sysconfdir on /etc/gnome/2.28.1. lsof shows me that D-Bus is running, actualy gdm starts gnome with dbus-launch --exit-with-session gnome-session.
And inside my /etc/dbus-1/session-local.conf I have:
Code:
<!DOCTYPE busconfig PUBLIC
"-//freedesktop//DTD D-BUS Bus Configuration 1.0//EN"
"[URL]"> <busconfig>
<!-- Search for .service files in /usr/local -->
<servicedir>/opt/gnome/share/dbus-1/services</servicedir>
</busconfig>
Well, I done many tweaks around and still can't display gvfs location, what I think is very odd is that lsof doesn't returns any gvfsd* daemon running.

I am experiencing issues when installing a software package, receiving the following error codes within .../install/logs/log.txt
"percent complete: 98%"
"...../JDK/jre.pak/repository/package.java.jre/java/jre/lib/desktop/icons/HighContrastInverse/16x16/mimetypes/gnome-mime-application-x-java-archive.png (No such file or directory)
"The file java/jre/lib/desktop/icons/HighContrastInverse/16x16/mimetypes/gnome-mime-application-x-java-archive.png could not be replaced"
From looking in the specified directory I can see that this file does not exist, however I am unable to simply create or copy a file with the required name to resolve this issue. Is this a known error, or is my install package simply missing the needed files; even though I managed to successfully install this package a few days earlier onto the same system.

Recently my GNOME (bottom) panel started reshuffling items after reboot.
I tried removing the panel, recreating it and placing new items on the panel. After rebooting the PC everything is undone. The panel reshuffles the items (even when the "Lock To Panel" is used). Also the items that are moved to the top panel, after rebooting return to the bottom panel.
Does anyone have a solution for this issue?

Getting this error seemingly randomly at login:
There was an error starting the GNOME Settings Daemon.
Some things, such as themes, sounds, or background settings may not work correctly.
The last error message was:
Launch helper exited with unknown return code 1
GNOME will still try to restart the Settings Daemon next time you log in.
I thought I might be logging in to fast, but it happened again when I had waited several minutes.

It's always the same file and it says:"The file or folder /home/.Trash-0/files/yesterday once more.mp3 does not exist."Having looked in this location logged in as root using both Dolphin and at the command line, this file doesn't exist.

I recently updated CentOS and PHP from 5.2 to 5.3. I ran into this issue though code...
I attempted to re-install memcached and got memcache.so moved to the appropriate module folder and updated php.ini. I am not sure if the updates removed other dependencies or if this is related to my CentOS update.

I can't ping any thing other that the ip address assigned to the server.
I did it through the gui , the command line and using ifconfig and editing the ifconfi-eth0 file and nothing works.
any ideas on how to get this to work.
i see nothing wrong in the messages.log file either.
