every time i try to update. The number of bytes sometimes changes but it ends up always failing to download the full 862kB and suggests checking my Internet connection.... which is fine.
I've got the following problem: I just noticed that there were just very few notifications about updating the system (usually there are damn many of them in a week) So I opened the update manager and clicked on "refresh list". The following result popped up: p,li{white-space:pre-wrap;}E: Error http://ppa.launchpad.net natty/main/Sources Sources 404 Not Found First I thought, it would be just some kind of server problem, but it didn't stop. The next thing was to research the thread and I even found something. However, the solution suggested didn't work at all. (Things, which might have caused this: I installed the default software center |I'm using Kubuntu, but in this case that fact doesn't matter| and used it. To sum up:
- not able to update the system referring to the launchpad main sources for 11.04
- following error: E: Error http://ppa.launchpad.net natty/main/Sources Sources 404 Not Found It would be great if this was a common issue and I've been simply too stupid to find a proper solution. So you could just post the link.

View 7 Replies View Relatedso i have installed compiz 9 and it didn't quite work for me, then i have reverted to compiz 8 and things where fine, but after a while my desktop started slowing down for no apparent reason, so i decided to install the nVIDIA drivers from the manufacturer's site, good, i typed in:

and then i installed the drivers with the sh command, stuff went right, but i could not

went to update the software sources and it's gone from System/Preferences/Main Menu/Administration tried to add it back and I think I have the right file targeted (usr/bin/software-properties-gtk) but after adding it I can't open it from the Main Menu without root, I used to be able to open this after passwording in,get it back properly in that main menu?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have updated from 9.10 to 10.04 on line via Update Manager. Update Manager messed up my sources. Blocked most of them on update. I unblicked them and changed everything to Lucid from Karmic. No luck. Errors all the time:

I cannot add gpg keys and use for example canonical.
I have a problem, because installation of ubuntu 11.04 will fail if I try to.
I have also Kubuntu and Xubuntu installed, which I regret a lot because I cannot uninstall them as well...
The problem is that I have installed a one-time-activation proprietary software so a fresh install is no option.
The error when upgrading is, that "xubuntu-desktop" cannot be marked for upgrade!
Is there some catalog or something to distinguish and choose sources for sources.list file in Debian? Currently mine are

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am unable to boot with kernel 2.6.35.13-92.fc14.x86_64 which was installed while applying software updates. It hangs with the last message issued "Registering binary handler for Windows Applications". Searching led to it being related to a problem with the nvidia drivers. I followed the directions in several posts - delete /etc/X11/xorg.conf, reboot, run nvidia-xconfig, reboot and all is fine, but not in my case. The first reboot works but the screen is wrong. There is a 1 inch wide black border around the presentation window. If I then do the nvidia-xconfig and reboot, i am back to where I was before - boot hangs after issuing "Registering...". If I boot to the last good kernel, everything works fine. This happened to me once before and I was able to fix it by rebuilding the nvidia kernel (I think that was what I had to do), but I can't find out how to do that. I have akmod and kmod installed which are supposed to take care of this problem. I booted to kernel 13-92 recovery mode, deleted the xorg.conf file and ran nvidia-xconfig from there. Still fails. I don't know what to list here, but I will do my best to supply whatever is necessary.

I am running Jolicloud on my netbook (which I believe is an Ubuntu derivative) and I am tried to enter the getdeb.net sources in so I can install apps from the website through APT but
1) When I entered the sources into sources.list and then the key into Terminal and then went to the site and tried to install an app it didn't work.
2) I deleted the line of code in the sources.list file and when I opened terminal and entered "sudo apt-get update" it showed the list of sources, but on the list were Getdeb.net sources.
My question is how do I delete sources that aren't in /etc/apt/sources.list ?

I already checked (after googling) the canonical partner and canonical partner(source something) repositories under synaptic >settings>repos.. and nothing happened,the error is still there..
When I first boot up. I get the GRUB command line. What happened to the boot menu? And I can boot up into my Windows partition just fine. But when I try the other partitions i get "Unknown file system" or when I try to boot into the other ntfs drive, I get "BOOTMBR missing", but yet it does not mean Windows, because i can boot that just fine. I can't find my Ubuntu partition. How can I get the GRUB boot menu back?

i can get on the internet fine but the update manager has not worked for 12 days code...
Just done a fresh install of squeeze (basic install then installed X, WM and a few applications) and I find that I am unable to get an xterm up and running (same goes for rxvt-unicode (urxvt) and uxterm). The same problem occurs with both Openbox and DWM window managers.
View 7 Replies View RelatedIt started with Update Manager constantly recycling and not updating. When it starts it shows 295 files and 308MB waiting to download. When I click on 'Install Updates' it appears to go through the process, and then presents me with the same 'waiting to install' window again - and again, and again - in fact as many times as I care to click the 'Install Updates' button. No error messages appear. The 'Settings' button produces the same apparent process as the 'Install Updates' button, but doesn't present me with any other screen.
I've tried all the solutions I could find on these forums and nothing works. The sudo suggestions for Terminal usually produce error codes. adjusting a line in the 'hosts' file. When I tried this I was presented with the obstacle of not having access to the read-only file, and no matter how much I searched I couldn't find how to gain access . While investigating all these possible solutions, I was directed in turn to the Software Sources and Synaptic Package Manager applications, but when I attempted to start them, 'Starting Administrative Application' appeared briefly on the taskbar - and then disappeared!
When I try to add software sources (specifically those for Scratchbox, but I get the same error with everything), I get an error message: "http://http not found". Obviously that is not a valid APT line and I have no idea what it is doing in my software sources. How do I take it out?

After collecting the config info (root password, etc.) the installation immediately gets disk write errors while doing PVCREATE.
I'm installing from the DVD to the 136GB SCSI drive. The drive is known to be good and is writable as a Windows
volume.
The scsi drive is the only drive selected for installation.
I've selected to delete all partitions on the volume and install default configuration however the new partition is not created. code...
I'm running GuitarPro6 on my EeePC, and it will only start correctly if I start it from a terminal, in the install directory (/opt/GuitarPro6)
If I attempt to start it from somewhere else, like ~/, I get a library error. GP appears to want to look for this library in the working directory, and will only find it and start if I CD to /opt/GuitarPro6 first.
For this reason, I believe, when I click on the shortcut I made in Main Menu, nothing happens.
Is there any way to define the working directory for a shortcut in Main Menu?
When I attempt to run the updates that are found with Update Manager, it simply returns to the Update Manager screen as if nothing happens. The following is what appears in my terminal view. This is a Linux guest VM (VirtualBox) running on a Windows 7 pro 64-bit host.

The Live CD worked fine as did an install to the HD, but I get a message from Update manager that there are updates that need to be applied and these always fail. I've tried selecting different ones in case it is just a particular update, but nothing has updated.

I recently got the Message, that i should do a partial System Upgrade. It included an update to Kernel 2.6.34. Since this update, i cannot boot with this kernel:

i can still boot with older kernels, but many drivers including wifi and graphics drivers dont work there anymore.
Just installed 10.10 under Oracle VM VirtualBox and then installed VBOX additions to clear up monitor issues. Mozilla Firefox works and so does Evolution mail client (needs work though). Everything seems to work EXCEPT Update Manager.I consistently get Failure message: "Failed to download package files".
