The problem is openwebmail has a dependency on perl-Compress-Zlib that conflicts with perl-IO-Compress that is needed by amavisd and clamav. The error message looks like that:
I am trying to run though the qmailrocks setup on a centos 5.5 and I am running into an issue when trying to telnet to port 25:

Everything else seems to be working (telnet to 110), and I turned off the firewall entirely, but I still cannot telnet to port 25. I apologize for not going directly to the qmailrocks forum, but they are currently closed down (due to lack of funds). I also am a newbie, so I apologize for the lack of needed information. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know what information you would need.
Im having a major problem with mysql-server failing to install.The installation stoppes on "Running Transactions" (have tried waiting for 10 minutes). I'm trying to turn a very old laptop (11 years ?), Toshiba Tecra 540cdt (with the latest available BIOS), into a home server. It runs Windows 2000 fine, and was earlier running some Mandriva versions. I'm trying a multi-boot install, from CD1of6. It does boot from the CD, then shows:

Loading initrd.img...
then reboots, and goes through the same cycle.
I switched the hard disk, same result. I have problems too if I try to install the latest Knoppix. An older Knoppix, 5.1 with kernel 2.6.19, will boot.

I have a Toshiba A205 S5804 laptop that had Vista Home Premium installed. Tried to install Centos 5 (2.6.18-8-el5) and when I went through the install process, X Server failed to start so I had to go thorough the command line install. Once the install completed, it only booted to console.
The default resolution for this laptop is 1280X800 but I dont know if that is why or not. if anyone has a clue about my issue, please let me know.. I really dont want to install windows.
I wanna install adobe flash player with yum but it fails to download, I think there may be something wrong with the repositories. After collecting the config info (root password, etc.) the installation immediately gets disk write errors while doing PVCREATE.
I'm installing from the DVD to the 136GB SCSI drive. The drive is known to be good and is writable as a Windows
volume.
The scsi drive is the only drive selected for installation.
I've selected to delete all partitions on the volume and install default configuration however the new partition is not created. code...
I have a problem installing CentOS 5.5 over lan. I set up a dhcp3 server and it works, client got an ip. I set up a tftpd-hpa server and it works, client can boot the install image of CentOS 5.5 I set up an apache server and it seems to be impossible... In the installation marathon I clicked through the menu to the choice of the web server where my installation files are available. I enter the ip 192.168.138.1 and the path CentOS-5.5 and CentOS tells me "Unable to retrieve http://192.168.138.1//CentOS-5.5/images/stage2.img" . Thats right because the two slashes are not right. Where the hell come the two slashes from???
I edited my httpd.conf like this:

I have installed Centos 5.3 64 bit version and run yum update so the system is up to date. However, I have noticed the kernel version that is installed is:

and when attempting to install from ATrpm.net the nvidia driver I get this message:

Now, yum says the kernel is up to date so how can I get the nvidia driver rpms to install? The entries in /boot are:

I have checked to make sure that the update repo is enabled. There were quite a few updates applied after the initial installation and the initial kernel was updated as the yum log indicates and also the entries in /boot.

I'm trying to install a dual booting machine with OpenSUSE v11.1 32bit and CentOS v5.2 64bit. I installed OpenSUSE first and allowed it to install and configure grub in the MBR and after that I wanted to proceed with CentOS v5.2. The installation went fine with two notable exceptions:- when I had to configure grub installation parameters, CentOS offered me only 2 solutions: either install it on the MBR of the first hard disk or not installing it at all. Other distributions are more flexible allowing you to install it in the boot sector of the root partition for example. Because I didn't want to ruin the existent grub onfiguration, I reluctantly accepted not to install it for CentOS assuming that I could manually configure the entry later in grub's menu.lst file.
- when I was presented with the options for software components installation, I've clicked on virtualization category/function because I intend to use the machine as a VMware host. There was no guidance on screen at that point and I blindly assumed that by choosing the virtualization function I would get necessary tools and drivers that will help me further on. It seems that this was a wrong move as you can see it below.
After completing the installation, I tried to search for a template or guiding on how the menu entry in menu.lst should look like but the grub directory was empty, not surprisingly because I've told CentOS earlier not to install it. Using the files in the /boot directory from the CentOS installation I tried to improvise a menu entry but it's not working. I did an independent verification of the DVD and zero errors found. Download was from Fedora's own torrent, so files should be verified anyway. All our CentOS servers sync to a windows domain time server and we're migrating to a new CentOS time server. however in testing the setup with the clients I get the following

checking to see if I can at least query...
# ntpdate -q 10.10.31.211

so it queried the server and also failed.
I have tried every variation I can think of to get an 'at' to rm a file after a certain amount of time.

I have:
- pasted the command into the command line as root and it works fine so it seems to be rights related -- rm gets scheduled and the file gets deleted after 2 minutes
- tried every variation of sudo within the statement including making sure that apache is listed in sudoers
- chmod to 777
- chown to apache
The rm command does get scheduled into the 'at' queue but the rm never removes the file.
at -c (without adding sudo to the 'at' statement)

I have a CentOS 5 64bit cloud server at 1and1. The current version of PHP on it is 5.2.17. I would like to install 5.3.6, which is available from the Atomic repository. I'm using yum for all this but when I try to install the 5.6.3 package, I get the following.

I have been using the same kickstart more or less since release 5.2 but it fails with 5.5. It looks like it is good all the way to the final stages. Does anyone know what has changed in anaconda for this release? I think the first boot process has changed as well.

However, when I try and start X via startx it bombs out. The Xorg.0.log says:

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have two CentOS 5 servers that I'm trying to transfer files between. They're on the same LAN switch, same subnet and everything. So far, everything I've attempted has failed, but scp still exits with a return code of 0. It only displays a line of *** and exits immediately. It's almost as if the file transfers instantly, but no file actually gets copied. Here is the verbose output from scp:

Trying to install yum-installonlyn, yumex reports a dependency error because libgif.so.4 is needed. However, that library is in /usr/lib and I also have copied it to /lib - with no success. Could anybody tell me which piece of information I am failing to give yum?

I can manually run it from the prompt with /etc/rc.d/init.d/ddclient start
and can verify that it works by checking that my IP has succesfully been changed at dyndns.
When I reboot though, during the startup, I get the following:
Starting ddclient: /bin/bash: ddclient: command not found [FAILED]
I am very new to Linux, so I am not sure what or where I should be looking to solve the problem. It seems to me that it must be looking in the wrong spot for ddclient, but I don't know what to check or change to point it at the right place.
recently i have upgraded my centos 5.0 or 5.1 installation using 'yum upgrade' to centos 5.4 since the upgrade I am unable to print any PDF files as landscape, they get printed but do not seem to be rotated and are aligned a little bit less than when using portrait (test using the GUI and LP)
when printing a text file in portrait and landscape everything goes well tested on labelprinter Brother QL-580N and tested on Samsung SCX-5530FN Laserprinter both using the network I already tried 'yum downgrade cups' this works but with no success

1. Watchdog script
2. Daemontools - using "supervise"
3. Monit - open source monitoring tool
From what I can gather, daemontools is probably the best option. Unfortunately, the documentation on the developers site is very vague and I'm having a hard time getting this to work. I think I have it installed correctly, just don't know how to apply it to the service I want monitored.
