Ubuntu Installation :: Can't Find Bittorrent Downloads?
Nov 13, 2010I swear Ubuntu's download pages are getting harder and harder to find things in.I help with a local LUG that holds a Clinic for Linux newbies. One of my tasks is to maintain all the latest popular distros and all the versions thereof. usually recommend Ubuntu to newcomers, but people bring all kinds of computers, many of which need Lubuntu or Xubuntu, yet others want Kubuntu, and on and on. I need all the flavors of Ubuntu.I prefer to download by torrent because it is faster with my connection. I found a page with torrents for 10.04 and 10.10 for Ubuntu desktop, alternate and server, but I'll be darned if I can find torrents for Netbook, Kubuntu, Lubuntu, Xubuntu and others.

Jan 9, 2011I am currently using Debian Lenny and am having problems with my pptp vpn client. I can use the following software for as long as I like without my pptp vpn connection dropping out:
(1) iceweasel
(2) icedove
(3) gtk-gnutella
If a use a bittorrent client, however, my pptp vpn connection drops out within a few minutes. I have tried these bittorrent clients: transmission, deluge, tixati. Enabling or disabling the firewall makes no difference.I have searched pptpclient.sourceforge.net and Debian User Forums but have not been able to find any suggestions on settings to change in a bittorrent client.
Ubuntu :: Deluge Bittorrent Client Won't Start
May 31, 2010I don't know what exactly I did to wreck the functionality but something did Deluge in. I've purged the configuration files and libraries and reinstalled them three times over and every time in terminal that I start it using deluge-gtk I get the following output:

1. I do not want crapware like Deluge or Vuze, who creates unwanted/unselected files and after downloading I must delete all of them.

Feb 26, 2010The config file is ambiguous, and keeps getting overwritten when you restart the daemon in Debian, anyway.
In /etc/transmission-daemon/settings.json, there are these options:
rpc-username
rpc-password
proxy-auth-username
proxy-auth-password
Every time I restart the daemon with:
/etc/init.d/transmission-daemon restart
It overwrites rpc-password, and the password it prints doesn't work anyway.
Does anyone know how to set the password properly? I don't want to disable it.

Ubuntu Networking :: Connection Drops While Downloading A With Bittorrent Client
May 29, 2011I tried Ubuntu, Kubuntu and now Xubuntu, all 11.04. I've also tried Deluge, Transmission and Ktorrent. With 10.10 everything worked fine (all variants). Also, in Windows 7 it's working fine. But now it drives me crazy. As soon as I start a torrent, the download starts but after 30 seconds or so the download drops to a zero. Also, I'm not able to browse anymore. The networkmanager tells me I still have a connection.
Some say it has something to do with the number of peers the client connects to, or it's my router. My router isn't the problem, as it's working fine with 10.10 and windows. So maybe it's the number of peers right? Question. Why can I connect with over 200 peers at the same time while I'm using 10.10 or windows, but can't do it with 11.04? Better put, what should I do to get this working fine again? Going back to 10.10?

Apr 9, 2010I have an internal network behind a server <10.0.0.1> connected to the internet that NATs my ip <10.17.11.88> only. NAT is not allowed to any other ip addresses. When I use Transmission Bittorrent client to download torrents, The thing is that this 10.20.0.244 is not my machine and doesn't have access to the internet at all. What is happening here? Ubuntu One :: Client Won't Start And Now Music Downloads Aren't Working?
Mar 31, 2010I had the "set-cap" exception problem, so when the fix was released, I updated. Since then, the ubuntuone-preferences dialog will not start or work. I tried the me bar, the system menu, and the CLI.Now, I bought some music the first day the store opened and it downloaded fine. Then yesterday I bought another album and the store hangs on "downloading the files." Six hours later, it still won't move.
It gets weirder. The music store says its trying to download a couple of tracks from the first album (even though they are already downloaded), the second album shows up as downloaded under the Web UI, but doesn't show up at all on my desktop .ubuntuone folder.I've tried the IRC a couple of times, with no response. (In fairness, it may have been bad timing, I'm in New York) I don't mind trying to sort this out myself, but I'd just like some more hints. I've looked at the syncd log and found the exception, but I don't know how else to restart the syncd. At the same time, my files *are* synching, and *one* of my address books is synching (my gmail account contacts aren't). I know this is alot at once, but I'm afraid of dividing the problem and missing something.

I have just given Linux a try for the first time and so far its not proving to be a good experience. I have so far just tried to install a couple of basic programs I am familiar with and ones suggested by Lifehacker.I wanted to install Tweetdeck, which meant installing Adobe Air. I duly downloaded Adobe Air but it then says I need to choose an application to open it. Assuming that the bin file was a zip file I looked in the software centre and found 7zip. Told it to load that but then couldn't find where it was. Its not listed in the Applications drop down (top right) so I found 'search for a file' and entered *7zip* to be shown 5 files. All but one appear to be a form of image file the other (7zip.desktop) isn't an exe either. Double clicking on it just gets me the following in something called gedit.

I then gave up and used google to find the program and download it, but just came across the same problem. Why oh why is there not some default program already loaded for unzipping files? How can I find 7Zip (I have already looked in the bin folder on the system drive but nothing there) and run it to tell it to make itself the default for unzipping files?

Jan 27, 2010I seem to be seeing some weird behavior in kubuntu with KDE 4.3.2 and KDE 4.3.5 for Kubuntu 9.10 32-bit.I have a few programs in my home folder. For instance Eclipse and Mendeley. it seems that when i create a Link to Application does not launch them. Here is how I create the links.
-> I right click and create a new "Link to Application"
-> I click on the Application tab and browse to where the shell script, or executable is.
and when I try to launch them it does not work. The link is using the absolute path. I tried setting the working directory and using a relative path but nothing. If I run the link in a terminal it says "Warning: Could not find" and the application I set. Now this seems to not be a problem for system applications like Kate. If i change the link to launch Kate it works perfectly.
