Recently my computer was infected by several viruses and my brother cleaned it up and installed SuSe for me. He also put windows xp back on my system for our children. I am having a terrible time installing our Dell 924 printer. I have it installed for windows, but cannot get it to print for my Linux system. What am I doing wrong? Can anyone give me some direction?
View 5 Replies View RelatedThe software use to work well here, but now I got this when I try to run it
sparky: error while loading shared libraries: libtk8.4.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
But I can not find it.
I also tried
cd /usr/lib
ln -s libtk8.4.so libtk.so.0
ln -s libtcl8.4.so libtcl.so.0
but this does not work neither.
If i open any application, it opens twice everytime and if i close one, the other one also closes.

I mean something like 'sudo apt-get install ...' in Ubuntu or 'yum install ...' in Fedora.
Is this normal? Suspect applications: 2 Suspect files: 7 Code: [09:53:29]

(I'm guessing the suspect applications are OpenSSH & OpenSSL b/c they are outdated but zypper tells me they're up-to-date?)
As the title of this post indicates, I recently switched over to SuSE from Fedora 14. I find that the default software repositories in YaST lack a lot of the amusements and applications I use for my legal work.
What I'm really looking for are apps that work well with the US tax code or plugins for law citations in LibreOffice. I could totally rely on SuSE if I could find that stuff!
I'm also looking for a few awesome games that I can download from an official repository. Can anyone recommend apps that fulfill my needs, any cool non-rogue RPG games or any software repositories where I can find them? I've got an X86_64 machine, openSuSE 11.4 KDE installed and I've got 4GB of DDR3 RAM.
I have opened dolphin and some other application (avidemux, dolphin, firefox, etc). in the first window (dolphin) i have a file. i drag it to another window/application and if i release the left-button of mouse, the window/application of the drag destination become active (raise). is it any way to make it to come in front/top (active) once mouse is over window while still dragging, before releasing the mouse? there is "focus" stings (focus under mouse/raise with the delay) in "windows Behavior". the focus under mouse is working fine, but is not working while dragging. it would be very handy to see where i drop the file, especially if i only see a small partition of the destination window, which is behind other windows.
my spec: suse 11.3, 64 bit, kde 4.5.3, kernel: 2.634.7
I need to find a wireframe app.I have searched the package manager (Aptitude) and google like I normally do when I need to find somethingbut I haven't had any luck with a wireframe app.

I read some stuff about making Gnome apps fit in with the KDE desktop but not the other way around. I use a few KDE apps and it would be nice to have their themes fit in with my Gnome desktop if possible

View 2 Replies View RelatedAfter installing a few packages without a package manager (yast), I was wonding if there is anyway to make a shortcut (or application link or whatever its call) for any given program you install to show up automatically on all users desktops and start menus(for lack of a linux term). For example I installed firefox to a folder in the /opt directory and found that i could drag and drop the shell command to the desktop to make a shortcut, or i could create a new application link on my desktop and point it at firefox. But what If i wanted that to show up for all users somewhere by default? Is there anything like the "all users" desktion winXP or the "public user" in win7?

View 4 Replies View Relatedwell i suppose this makes the problem ever more complex because i'm acutally attempting to make a cross compile tool chain from amd64 to arm.i've successfully built binutils and configured the kernel headers. now i'm stuck on gcci'm running Code: sudo make -j 4 when i get the issue (the -j 4 if you don't know helps speed up the process considerably by using more threads)
anyways it tells me: Code: make[2]: Entering directory `/home/alex/tmp/gcc-4.4.5/arm-linux/libgcc'

How can I run the unlisted applications?
I'm currently booting Linux Mint off a live USB, and its really great. The only problem i'm having is that i'm trying to get this one program, called Monica, it adjusts the gamma values, etc for your monitor, which i need because my monitor is kinda messed up :P. But yeah, the site that hosts it is down, and I cant find a single working mirror. If anyone has the package for it, would it be possible to upload it?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI am running Pclinuxos with KDE 4.3.4. I have installed Truecrypt but am having problems using this program when the user is not root. If I try to mount or make an encrypted container a message pops up saying: Administrator privileges required: enter user password or administrator password
When I enter the root password a box then says: Failed to obtain administrator privileges: username is not in the sudoers file. This incident will be reported
I can't understand why this has happened as I gave the root password. Once I provide the root password, surely I become all powerful and the system should let me do anything? Also to mount a encrypted file in Truecrypt I have to assign full write permissions for users to the /media directory. Is this safe to do?
The only way I have found to use Truecrypt with a non root user account is to go to super user mode terminal, sign in with root password, CD to the truecrypt directory and launch Truecrypt from the terminal. I find this very laborious to do every time.
Is there any website that has complete list of all the shortcuts of applications/softwares of Windows, Mac, Linux Platforms. If Atleast for popular and veryuseful softwares.
