I have installed several applications on my Powerbook running lucid, but when I click the "applications" menu, many of them do not appear on the list. They show in the software install/remove application.
How can I run the unlisted applications?
I have installed SAFECOPY & TESTDISK using Synaptic manager. after installation I can't find the applications in the menu, I am trying to use them. where to find these applications?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI followed the reefit manual instructions to install. I tried using the installer package and it seemed to work fine, only when I reboot there is no option which operating system I want to use, and when I go back into OSX reefit isn't there anymore. I also tried the manual install putting it into the system folder on OSX and I get the same problem, it's gone again after I reboot. (Im using the option button to boot into Linux right now, and when I do my Linux partition is called "Windows", I don't know if that matters either.)

I have installed (successfully) Ubuntu 10.04 ppc on my powerpc g4 mac. 400mhz, 1g ram. Its the blue model. It works great, but it does not detect my monitor, and I can not change the settings past 800 X 600. I am using a Dell 19 inch monitor. Analog input (not DVI yet) resolution 12080 x 1024 60hz. I believe I need to change the info in the xconfig file (but I don't know to what or how), and I may not be saying that correctly.

It's like they were never installed, but I know for a fact I watched them being installed in the terminal and everything. The application I am most concerned with is ies4linux(mainly because its in the way of my WoW playing). I did the whole cabextract (already have wine) and downloaded the ies4linux file.It runs the installer for it, however it doesn't show in the applications or home folder.

View 1 Replies View RelatedInstalled Ubuntu 10.10 on my new-to-me Powerbook 1.67Ghz. PowerPC, as a platform, is most definitely *not* dead. Installation went normal. I installed with network connected to Ethernet rather than Wireless. Installed Wireless firmware. Then I had wireless.
Backlighting didnt work until I added 'i2c-dev' to /etc/modules. Restart, and backlight works, although its a little too sensitive. Hardware acceleration wasn't enabled, so I had to add this to a file called Radeon-kms.conf in /etc/modprobe.d/
"radeon options modeset=0"
Reboot. Then I had hardware acceleration and Compiz.
Install/run sensors and sensors-detect. Run as root. Detected HD temp, CPU, GPU temps and fan speed. Make sure this is in /etc/modules: therm_adt746x. Thats the thermal control stuffs. I then installed openjdk and netbeans and eclipse. OpenJDK is slow, but I feel that is due to OpenJDK itself, and not PowerPC.
This gave me a working CPU ondemand throttling:
apt-get install cpufrequtils
Installing this gave me a working battery-applet that reported a percentage:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:iaz/battery-status && sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install battery-status
/usr/lib/battery-status/battery-status --indicator
I get really good battery life, and everything that shipped on this laptop actually works as designed. Forever PowerPC, Forever Ubuntu
We all know that we can remove installed applications straight from terminal or ubuntu software center. However, sometimes we download .deb files from the web that are not necessarily on the repository. My question is, how do I uninstall a manually installed deb application?
View 9 Replies View RelatedOk so I have a UEFI compatible notebook. I managed to take the natty-desktop-amd64 (the latest Alpha, 3 in this case), throw it on a SD card, and started the grub2 bootloader via UEFI.
Ubuntu installed just fine, the only problem is, there is no selection in my UEFI bootloader for Ubuntu. I can access my newly installed Ubuntu partition only via the "Try Ubuntu Before Installing" option on my SD card. So is there anyway I could create a boot entry?
I have installed Ubuntu 9.04 Server on my iMac G4 and now I can't download any Packages. I know I have internet because I can use the built in w3m web browser. I also can run ifconfig. When I type sudo apt-get install lynx or anything else it says it can't find it. F.Y.I tasksel worked to install lamp server.

I have downloaded a couple of software packages from the ubuntu software center and they are not showing up in the applications menu on top, I have no idea where on the hard drive it stores them so I can find them manually and place a shortcut in the applications menu.

I've made a full system backup, but before I take the plunge I want to get a list of all installed applications. I have tons of special applications installed, many of which took tweaks to get running. I was just wondering if there's a best practice about where to put application files that you compile yourself? Most of them seem to default to putting their files in /usr/local. What I currently do is then create symlinks from /usr/sbin, /etc/<appname>/conf, /var/log, /var/run etc. Is this messy? How should I be doing this instead?
