View 3 Replies View RelatedThe config file is ambiguous, and keeps getting overwritten when you restart the daemon in Debian, anyway.
In /etc/transmission-daemon/settings.json, there are these options:
rpc-username
rpc-password
proxy-auth-username
proxy-auth-password
Every time I restart the daemon with:
/etc/init.d/transmission-daemon restart
It overwrites rpc-password, and the password it prints doesn't work anyway.
Does anyone know how to set the password properly? I don't want to disable it.
I am currently using Debian Lenny and am having problems with my pptp vpn client. I can use the following software for as long as I like without my pptp vpn connection dropping out:
(1) iceweasel
(2) icedove
(3) gtk-gnutella
If a use a bittorrent client, however, my pptp vpn connection drops out within a few minutes. I have tried these bittorrent clients: transmission, deluge, tixati. Enabling or disabling the firewall makes no difference.I have searched pptpclient.sourceforge.net and Debian User Forums but have not been able to find any suggestions on settings to change in a bittorrent client.
Iam always downloading files using transmission bittorrent, the problem is my sister always keep pausing my all my downloads because it somehow slows her internet speed in her rooms computer, any way I can have a password prompted every time she pauses all my downloads in transmission?

I can only access the Transmission web interface while the Transmission-gtk client is running. When I close it, the web interface is no longer available. I try to manually start the transmission-daemon, but the process never shows up as running.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have just set up the transmission bittorrent client on my server (using the web interface), and am trying to get the port forwarding right. After noticing low download speeds (and rare uploading), I decided to check if a port needed to be forwarded.
I found many conflicting sites, mentioning both the ranges 6881-6999 and the port 51413 (as well as TCP and UDP versus just TCP). My current configuration is to forward TCP and UDP port 51413 to my server.
I don't know what exactly I did to wreck the functionality but something did Deluge in. I've purged the configuration files and libraries and reinstalled them three times over and every time in terminal that I start it using deluge-gtk I get the following output:

1. I do not want crapware like Deluge or Vuze, who creates unwanted/unselected files and after downloading I must delete all of them.
2. I do not want to use WINE.

I used Dual-boot with XP and Ubuntu and I got no problem with 9.10 Karmic Koala but just got this problem after upgrading to 10.04 Lucid Lynx.
I tried Ubuntu, Kubuntu and now Xubuntu, all 11.04. I've also tried Deluge, Transmission and Ktorrent. With 10.10 everything worked fine (all variants). Also, in Windows 7 it's working fine. But now it drives me crazy. As soon as I start a torrent, the download starts but after 30 seconds or so the download drops to a zero. Also, I'm not able to browse anymore. The networkmanager tells me I still have a connection.
Some say it has something to do with the number of peers the client connects to, or it's my router. My router isn't the problem, as it's working fine with 10.10 and windows. So maybe it's the number of peers right? Question. Why can I connect with over 200 peers at the same time while I'm using 10.10 or windows, but can't do it with 11.04? Better put, what should I do to get this working fine again? Going back to 10.10?
I am trying to proxy all traffic from Transmission. The proxy settings in the preferences seem to only effect tracker connections.

When I use Transmission Bittorrent client to download torrents, The thing is that this 10.20.0.244 is not my machine and doesn't have access to the internet at all. What is happening here? Can anyone help me?

So, I employed the update. Problem is, I do not see this as an installed application. TRANSMISSION is not listed in any submenu under the Applications menu OR Add/Remove.
After upgrading a couple of months ago from Ubuntu server 9.04 to 10.04, transmission stopped working. I have since removed it and reinstalled. It is running as I can start and stop the daemon. However, I can't locate the settings.json file so I can get into it in the browser. The version running is 1.93. I tried searching in multiple directories and even searched using:

Nothing came up.
I stopped the daemon and created the file in /etc/transmission-daemon/settings.json with the contents of my old file I had saved elsewhere. Restarted the daemon and I still get the 404 error.
I was suspicious the last step wouldn't work as I was of the opinion that transmission is supposed to generate its own default settings.json file.
I have Ubuntu installed, using transmission client to download a torrent.The torrent is coming down at ~300kbps, but my internet connection speedtests @ 50mbps...how do I configure connection to utilize connection?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have quite fast Internet connection, 100mbit, and I'm able to take advantage of the entire bandwidth that I'm paying for. When I, however, use Transmission as torrent client and download a torrent faster than, 7-8 Mbyte/second, my hard drive is spinning all the time and my desktop becomes sporadically unresponsive, load average gets high and I'm pretty much sure the Transmission-application is the cause to this, somehow. It must be some strange way it cashes stuff...I don't know.
I'm, either way, not experiencing anything like that with any other torrent client in Linux (or Windows for that matter). It's not that I'm tied to Transmission, in fact, I prefer rtorrent and use it anytime I can, it's just that some stupid torrent sites are giving me Transmission as the only client option when I'm using Linux, so I have to stick to it those times. I have quite fast system, Core Duo 3ghz, 4gb ram, 500 gb 7200rpm 16MB cache WD hard drive, etc...so the hardware certainly shouldn't be a problem.
I installed amarok in ubuntu karmic, I had to set the proxy settings for wikipedia and lyrics plugin to work , for that I had to edit the file .kde/share/config/kioslaverc , but now the problem is , that lyrics aren't being displayed although wikipedia and photos for the artist are being displayed. Whenever it starts playing a song, it just shows the usual message "lyrics are being fetched" for a couple of seconds and then nothing is displayed, I don't think anything is wrong with my proxy settings as wikipedia and photos plugin are working fine. Do I need some kde dependency for lyrics to work ?

I set the system-wide proxy settings and they seem to work for most part except not on Google Chrome and Opera. Firefox works fine though flash is never detected. I get a 105 "NAME NOT RESOLVED" error on Chrome.
Also whenever I install something using apt-get, it tells me that the packages cannot be authenticated.
how to set default proxy settings for java? Windows allows you to do this in control panel-java. Does Ubuntu have something similar? Its causing my java apps to time out and Firefox to freeze.

I have a server that i built as 9.10 Ubuntu a while ago. It's been running through a proxy server that i set as an export in /etc/profile. Recently i upgraded it to 10.04 Ubuntu.
Now i want to get rid of the proxy server. I removed the export in /etc/profile. I've tried restarting the network services, reloading the profile, rebooting the machine, setting a blank export, and a few other things...but it's still using the proxy!
I've tried grepping various folders but the only other place i can find a proxy setting is in the apt config (which i don't think would matter?).

View 1 Replies View RelatedI installed DansGuardian. In order for it to work I set the system wide proxy. However it is really easy to get around DansGuardian by going to preference proxy setting. How do I password protect this setting so it requires a password to change proxy setting? Preferably a different password than the normal sudo password if possible. If not I at least want the sudo password protecting it! I run multiple browsers so doing it via the system rather than the browser made the most since.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm running a Ubuntu 9.10 server with Openbox as the WM. I'm have set the proxy and http_proxy settings at /system/prosy and /system/http_proxy using gconf-editor. The settings seem to stick in gconf. The gnome-settings-daemon seems to be running fine. The problem is firefox-3.5, apt etc does not recognize the gconf proxy settings. I do not understand why firefox does not honor these settings.
