Feb 26, 2010I'm looking for a good bittorrent client that can be run via a remote ui or doesn't require x-server and a gui to function.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI am playing around with the idea of being able to use a cloud or instance based service to install Ubuntu 9.10 Server. This will enable me to have remote access via SSH command line.So far, I've installed Ubuntu 9.10 Server + Ubuntu Desktop to a virtual machine. I can access this via SSH and locally via the desktop. However, in the real environment the only access I am going to have initially is via SSH.
I would like to be able to connect using Windows Remote Desktop or VNC (whichever is easier and most importantly - most secure) to the machine.. even though the desktop is on there, I need to somehow configure the remote access all from the command line.I've had a read of various forums and have been trawling support forums for days but can't find a working solution for 9.10 Server or that fits my situation above where I will not have any physical access to the desktop or machine to configure remote desktop. It all has to be done via SSH/command line.
i found this video, and i really want to do the same. *newbie needs to learn [URL]...my question is, what need to be installed and how?
is there any specific configuration to make it works?
and will it work if i want to connect from Ubuntu to Fedora ?

I want to get a command line mail client running but I am having some permission issue.

i also tried mutt etc but always get permission denied.
I am looking for a client/server application that can allow me to have remote GUI access (eg: VNC) but with the ability to use sound.
I see that TeamViewer has a linux application out now but for my company, it would compromise security protocol because it reaches out to the TeamViewer servers to do any work.
Basically, we have applications that require a GUI and we need to hear sounds from them if they throw an alert (the app is a monitoring tool).
We are running a VNC server on it currently and when our monitoring machine was on Windows, TightVNC was able to get the sound...that is not the case with any Linux client so I am wondering if there is actually one that exists.
I am unable to locate ftp binary on SuSE 10. Some one know the location of the binary / package which has this binary.

I want BitTorrent client, similar to uTorrent.
1. I do not want crapware like Deluge or Vuze, who creates unwanted/unselected files and after downloading I must delete all of them.

I have a fast computer in my office and I want the person using the slow computer in the same office to boot up and see the login window (gdm) and log-in from there into the fast computer and be able to use their session on the fast computer the same time I am locally logged in to the fast computer as a different user and session. Is this best done through XDMCP? Where is a good tutorial on how to set this up?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have Fedora installed on a netbook. I customarily mount several NFS shares on this machine, from both a desktop system running F11 and a small server running FreeBSD. On the server side the shares are write-enabled. On the server side the shares are write-enabled. In the past this has worked fine.
However since upgrading to F12, my configuration no longer works as before. Reading from the NFS shares is no problem, but as soon as I try to write to one, either in Nautilus or from any other program, including on the cmd line, all hell breaks lose. Nautilus crashes, and I am unable to remount the shares. Usually rebooting the client is the my only recourse.
There are no clues in dmesg on either the client or the server. In terminal trying to remount a "trashed" share I see this:
Code:
$ sudo mount -v venus:/media/disk8 /media./disk8
mount: no type was given - I'll assume nfs because of the colon
mount.nfs: timeout set for Sat Feb 20 17:34:59 2010
mount.nfs: prog 100003, trying vers=3, prot=6
[Code].....
The NFS versions under F11, F12, and FreeBSD are the current ones (all updates applied).

Both are relatively new vanilla installations.I went into System - Preferences - Remote Desktop on the Fedora system and enabled Remote Desktop. I used Dual-boot with XP and Ubuntu and I got no problem with 9.10 Karmic Koala but just got this problem after upgrading to 10.04 Lucid Lynx.
I tried Ubuntu, Kubuntu and now Xubuntu, all 11.04. I've also tried Deluge, Transmission and Ktorrent. With 10.10 everything worked fine (all variants). Also, in Windows 7 it's working fine. But now it drives me crazy. As soon as I start a torrent, the download starts but after 30 seconds or so the download drops to a zero. Also, I'm not able to browse anymore. The networkmanager tells me I still have a connection.
Some say it has something to do with the number of peers the client connects to, or it's my router. My router isn't the problem, as it's working fine with 10.10 and windows. So maybe it's the number of peers right? Question. Why can I connect with over 200 peers at the same time while I'm using 10.10 or windows, but can't do it with 11.04? Better put, what should I do to get this working fine again? Going back to 10.10?

View 3 Replies View RelatedThe config file is ambiguous, and keeps getting overwritten when you restart the daemon in Debian, anyway.
In /etc/transmission-daemon/settings.json, there are these options:
rpc-username
rpc-password
proxy-auth-username
proxy-auth-password
Every time I restart the daemon with:
/etc/init.d/transmission-daemon restart
It overwrites rpc-password, and the password it prints doesn't work anyway.
Does anyone know how to set the password properly? I don't want to disable it.

I'm looking for a way to automatically convert XLS and XLSX files to PDF when uploaded through a Web interface by users. I will probably use phplivedocx for DOC and DOCX files, but I haven't found any library for Excel files.I may use PHP to call a some printing command to make the conversion, but I've never tried that on a server (which obviously) doesn't have Open Office installed (meaning no PDF printer driver I guess)
