Aug 15, 2010I was able to get my Epson Stylus NX510 printer up and running (after much issue), but I can't get the scanner working. I'm on a laptop, and the printer/scanner is wifi enabled and broadcasts with its own IP address. I can print with no problem, but xsane and simple scan don't recognize the scanner. I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx.

Ubuntu :: Can't Get The Scanner Recognized By Xsane ?
Mar 4, 2010I've been using Ubuntu 9.10 'in anger' for a couple of weeks now and overall I'm impressed. However, a couple of days ago my old Epson C46 (which had been working fine under Karmic) died, and I had a look for a replacement.
I decided on a Canon MP270 because Canon seemed to have gone to the trouble of providing Linux drivers on their website. I even phoned Canon and they confirmed it should work fine.
Today the AIO arrived and I downloaded the printer and scanner drivers from Canon. I could't get the install.sh files to run - tried ./ sudo and sh etc, no joy. Anyway, I used the package manager to install the .deb files and that seemed to go OK.
The printing side of things works fine but I can't get the scanner recognized by Xsane.......
Debian :: Scanner No Longer Recognized After Update
Nov 30, 2015I am running Wheezy 7.9 32 bit, with the kernel Linux 3.2.0-4-686-pae, and Gnome 3.4.2 on an Intel Pentium CPU G3420 @ 3.2 GHz. I installed a new printer in August, an HP Officejet 7612 all-in-one printer/scanner/copier, and it worked perfectly as both a printer and a scanner first time, despite not being listed on the supported list in SANE. Two weeks ago, I got a general software update notification, and did the update. Now the scanner is not recognised. The printer still works fine as a printer, but when using Simple-scan, I get the error message "No scanners detected. Please check your scanner is connected and powered on". I have had a look round on Google, and all the suggestions made do not work.
I tried the suggestion to add myself to the scanner users list on my PC which made no difference (even though the scanner previously worked without my being added to the scanner users list).
I have deleted the printer and re-installed it using CUPS, but that still has no effect. I tried re-installing HPLIP also to no avail, and I have now lost the toolbox on the drop down menu under <Applications> <Accessories> <HP Toolbox>, as when I click on it, nothing happens.
It would seem that something in the update has messed up Simple-scan. Looking at the dpkg log (is this the right thing to look at?) for the date of the update, I cannot find anything which directly involved SANE, so I think that it might be something else which has affected SANE. How I can find out which update did the damage? I don't normally do anything except accept recommended updates, so I am a bit lost as to what to do.

Dec 2, 2010The scanner is seen using lsusb command but when i open xsane it is not recognized. Xsane wants to use the webcam instead. I think this happened because i saved the settings of the former scanner a few days ago. Should i delete that setting that is saved in the home>.sane>.xsane directory? The old scanner is a Canon Canoscan lide N1220U and the new one is a Canon Canoscan lide 100. I would appreciate any suggestions as i tried a reboot with no improvement :0)

Mar 27, 2011I have just bought and installed an HP 2050 printer-scanner-copier. The printer works fine, but the scanner is not recognised by Simple Scan or XSane.
Simple Scan states: No Scanners Detected
XSane Image Scanning Program states: No Devices Available
I have Ubuntu 10.10 - the Maverick Meercat installed on my computer.
I have downloaded the hplip-3.11.3a.run file from the HP website but it is still in my download folder and I don't know how to get it from the download folder to my computer and then once that is accomplished, I don't know what to type in the terminal to get this file installed.
Heck, I don't even know if this is what I should install to correct this problem or not.

May 17, 2011I had a similar problem on 13.1, but was solved by this forum by copying 80-sane.rules to /etc/udev/rules.d/ . With 13.37 the same trick doesn't work. Here is my scanimage output:

I am currently running the Ubuntu 10.04 OS
I was able to get the printer up and running by downloading the printer driver for debian linux (3.1) from the Canon site without any problems.
Unfortunately I am not having the same luck with the scanner.
I tried downloading ScanGear MP for Linux (deb) (1.3) from the same Canon site but have not yet been able to get the XSane Image Scanner to recognize this scanner driver for my Canon.

Mar 10, 2011I have a CanonMP280 printer and Ubuntu 10.10. Mp280 is not recognized by Ubuntu 10.10. Through 'cybertechhelp' I was very lucky to get the printing drivers to install. So the printer works.
No-one seems to be able to find the 'scanner' drivers and Canon_help is useless. So I must dual-boot with Windows to be able to scan.
Although win7 is a vast improvement on vista. I would much prefer to single-boot with Ubuntu. I tried other Ubuntu and Ubuntu-Based distros, but, the printer-drivers I have, only work in Ubuntu 08.04 - 10.10
General :: Xsane Is Unable To Detect Scanner Device?
Feb 3, 2010I'm using debian lenny, I bought a new Hp officejet j4500 scanner but the xsane is unable to detect the scanner. It says device not found. If I run xsane as root it detects and works properly it is obvious.I have added the user to scanner,saned and also to root user group.

Ubuntu :: Failed To Scan / Unable To Connect To Scanner
May 14, 2011Ok, so a few weeks back my 6 year old daughter wanted to scan a picture she had made for a school project, I hadn't used my AGFA snapscan e20 for years, Infact it had been in a box for more than 5 years.
anyhoo I thought I'd give it a go and with some doubt plugged it in. Much to my joy and my daughters joy it just worked, there was life in the old dog still So two or three weeks on after I've installed a kernel update as well as others on my daughters Dell Optiplex GX620 Ubuntu 10.04 LTS (2.6.32-30-generic #59-Ubuntu SMP), my multi operating system literate 6 year old has drawn another master piece and popped it in the scanner only to recive the following error from simple-scan
What I'd like to know is,
1, How do I remove the entry for the scanner in simple-scan (ahh the old reinstall never fails)
2, why am I getting nothing back from my tail
3,Why did it break in the first place?
4, how to fix it (if not with a reinstall)
Please help as I don't want to break the "My Dad can fix anything" illusion my daughter has just yet.

Sep 23, 2010Recently got a Canon Canoscan 8800F after looking it up on the SANE site and said it was completely supported for Linux.
I have downloaded the pixma drivers and have compiled the command line program, but it can't find the scanner.
lsusb returns a Canon scanner Bus 001 Device 005: ID 04a9:1901 Canon, Inc.
and sane-find-scanner returns:found USB scanner (vendor=0x04a9 [Canon], product=0x1901 [CanoScan]) at libusb:001:005
but scanimage -L (under my user login or sudo) returns only the webcam. No other scanner found.
My system is running Linux Mint 7, ia64 kernel 2.6.28-11-generic

Sep 7, 2010I've installed XSane Image Scanner. When I first opened it, it searched for my scanner and didn't give any error messages, and it had my scanner model in the heading of the scan window. But when I hit the scan button, it gave me saying, "Failed to start scanner: error during device I/O.I closed everything, and opened XSane again. This time it said there was no scanner available. The scanner is plugged into the USB port and uses that for both power and data. It's a Canoscan Model N650U.

i intall hplip with synaptic in order to setup my scanner, printer is working, i dont need the fax, but the scanner is not working with xsane.
normal user and sudo see the scanner with

If I run scanimage -L as root it does seem to find the scanner.. so its a permissions problem somewhere.. I will keep investigating....
