Fedora :: Get Scanner Setup In 13?
May 26, 2010
I installed Fedora 13 64 bit yesterday and so far so good. Except that it recognized my hp2100 printer scanner but it didn't work until I set up CUPS. I installed HPLIP and it doesn't see the printer even though it works. Now I would like to get the scanner to work, but simple scan doesn't see it. How do I get it to work?

I have Just got Fedora up and working and trying to setup my Epson V33 Scanner, I have downloaded the Driver packages from Avasys (http://avasys.jp/eng/linux_driver/) But when I try to install the iscan rpm package it tells me that I need libltdl.so.3, after doing some googling I have managed to find this rpm for Mandriva but I am unsure if installing this on Fedora would cause any problems?[URL].. When I looked on the Avasys site this is available as an rpm (or to be exact libltdl.so.7!)

I have Fedora 12 installed on my computer and I'm trying to set up a printer and a scanner for my personal use. The printer is a Canon LBP 3200 and the scanner a Mustek 1200 UB Plus. Both are connected via USB.For the printer i managed to install a driver, but it will still not print. It only ejects blank pages. For the scanner i tried sane, but to no avail.

I just received a Canon Pixma MX320 as a gift.
I am currently running the Ubuntu 10.04 OS
I was able to get the printer up and running by downloading the printer driver for debian linux (3.1) from the Canon site without any problems.
Unfortunately I am not having the same luck with the scanner.
I tried downloading ScanGear MP for Linux (deb) (1.3) from the same Canon site but have not yet been able to get the XSane Image Scanner to recognize this scanner driver for my Canon.

I use 9.10 on a Lenovo t410 and have installed a Brother MFC 495CW. I've been able to get the wireless printer operational, but have only been able to get the scanner operational via a USB cable. I've tried the instructions on the Brother Linux page but to no avail.

I do not have the hardware to do this yet. I simply want advice on what route to take before I make the investment. If I had the money I would simply invest in a wireless combo setup, but I unfortunately do not. I do however have an idea. I am currently stuck with a standalone system that is running XP strictly for the use of magicjack. I was thinking I could hook up this combo machine to that computer and network it in via that. However, would the scanning capability only reside in the hardwired computer or could I do a network scan somehow?

I was able to get my Epson Stylus NX510 printer up and running (after much issue), but I can't get the scanner working. I'm on a laptop, and the printer/scanner is wifi enabled and broadcasts with its own IP address. I can print with no problem, but xsane and simple scan don't recognize the scanner. I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx.

How to get this scanner to work with Ubuntu 10.10
It's connected and printer is working through the scanner. But i can't get the system to recognise the scanner.
I'm all new to Ubuntu, and i thought it was easy and terminal is a totally new thing to me.
Is there a workaround to get this scanner to work through graphical interface install, or is terminal wisdom needed...

Recently got a Canon Canoscan 8800F after looking it up on the SANE site and said it was completely supported for Linux.
I have downloaded the pixma drivers and have compiled the command line program, but it can't find the scanner.
lsusb returns a Canon scanner Bus 001 Device 005: ID 04a9:1901 Canon, Inc.
and sane-find-scanner returns:found USB scanner (vendor=0x04a9 [Canon], product=0x1901 [CanoScan]) at libusb:001:005
but scanimage -L (under my user login or sudo) returns only the webcam. No other scanner found.
My system is running Linux Mint 7, ia64 kernel 2.6.28-11-generic

I've installed XSane Image Scanner. When I first opened it, it searched for my scanner and didn't give any error messages, and it had my scanner model in the heading of the scan window. But when I hit the scan button, it gave me saying, "Failed to start scanner: error during device I/O.I closed everything, and opened XSane again. This time it said there was no scanner available. The scanner is plugged into the USB port and uses that for both power and data. It's a Canoscan Model N650U.

I have a Genius CP-SF600 scanner. I have put the fimware in the necessary directory for the backend (/usr/share/sane/gt68xx), and what I run sane-find-scanner I get:
Code:
$ sane-find-scanner
# sane-find-scanner will now attempt to detect your scanner. If the
# result is different from what you expected, first make sure your
# scanner is powered up and properly connected to your computer.
# No SCSI scanners found. If you expected something different, make sure that
# you have loaded a kernel SCSI driver for your SCSI adapter.
found USB scanner (vendor=0x0458, product=0x2021, chip=GT-6816?) at libusb:002:006
# Your USB scanner was (probably) detected. It may or may not be supported by
# SANE. Try scanimage -L and read the backend's manpage.
# Not checking for parallel port scanners.
# Most Scanners connected to the parallel port or other proprietary ports
# can't be detected by this program.
# You may want to run this program as root to find all devices. Once you
# found the scanner devices, be sure to adjust access permissions as
# necessary.
However, when I run scanimage -L I get:
Code:
$ scanimage -L
No scanners were identified. If you were expecting something different, check that the scanner is plugged in, turned on and detected by the sane-find-scanner tool (if appropriate). Please read the documentation which came with this software (README, FAQ, manpages). So sane sees the scanner, but then scanimage says it can't find any scanners. If I run scanimage -L as root it does seem to find the scanner.. so its a permissions problem somewhere.. I will keep investigating....

I'm using a scanner with Fedora. However, linux does something that is undesirable; It turns off the scanner light, everytime it does a scan, which the HP software, which comes for windows, doesn't do. The result? The light never warms up enough and all the images come with a blue tone on them. Only after using the scanner a few times, the light warms up enough and the images start getting their true colour. The question is, can I somehow force the light to stay on, even during scans, like it happens when I am using Windows? Or not? Anyone has ideas?

I've tried the system-config-printer wizard as well as going in through the control panels and trying everything reasonable.

Has anyone had and solved this problem, I have tried everything identified on the Brother web site. The scanner works perfectly when accessed through the Simple Scan application.

Everything has been going great so far. I used Windows all my life and pretty much got bored with it, so I decided to try a new OS.
Ive got my system up and running pretty much to what I want it set as. MP3s can now play, I can sync my ipod, I am connected to the interwebs,
One final challenge I am having. I have a Brother MFC-490CW All in One Printer. I have a Scanner associated with this Printer. I was able to successfully connect the printer wirelessy through my network, but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to have applications recognize it as a Scanner Mechanism through the Wireless Network.
Example > Simple Scan will not detect it as a Scanner Device
I have applied all files/packages to have this scanner tool recognized. I even did a terminal command to ensure that it is valid.
Is this function non functional for wireless access for scanner usage?
