This software allows not only connect to Internet, but also send SMS and place calls (as in you dial number in program and when you're connected, sound goes through the sound card). As far as I know, almost any USB mobile modem comes with application to send SMS via its GSM connection.Now the question is - is there any vendor-independent software that runs under Linux and allows you to use your mobile broadband modem to turn your PC into larger mobile phone? I want at least to be able to send and receive SMS using PC + mobile modem.

I'm trying to configure postfix so smart daemon can send out notifications emails. My system will need to send emails to a mail server that is on the same local network. I have not had much luck in getting this to work, and am confused on what I need to setup to do this and how to set it up. Does my system need to be apart of the same domain as the mail server? If so, how do I do this? Is there any restrictions sending emails from the command line as the root user? Do I need to configure a relayhost?
Basically all I need to do is send emails to a local mail server, i.e. a mail server on the same local network. I do not need to receive emails. I am rather clueless as to how to set this all up, and what I need for this basic email functionality. I have read and tried many postfix configuration tutorials, but when I try to send out a test email to a email address on the local network mail server I always get "Connection refused" to the server and deferred or bounced status on my test email.
I'm trying to set up a basic smtp server on my local computer that I can send basic, unencrypted email through on port 25. I installed postfix, and I chose the following options:
Internet Site,
System Mail Name: localhost
Root and postmaster mail recipient: I left this blank
For other domains to accept mail, I entered : NONE, localhost
No force synchronous mail updates
Local networks: 127.0.0.0/8

are there any linux command to have how many http request are sent and received??
View 4 Replies View RelatedI can ssh to my server which is on a LAN accessing the'Net through a Linksys modem/router.I want to be able to configure the Router by using the it's web interface, but the server only has a Command Line Interface and I can only run text browsers like Lynx,hich, although I can log onto the router, the Javascript routines mean that I can't configure the router.I can't access the router's web interface from the 'Net because the router is set up to pass any requests on port 80 to the server.Is there any way I can communicate with the router by sending HTTP requests from my browser external to the LANhaving these relayed to the router by the server and then the server relaying the responses back to my browser.

i am bit confused about /Usr /Var /Boot partitions, as i need to manage perfectly in 130 GB
if i go with 4 Gb swap and remaining for " / " is that will be fine ? should i need to specify partition sizes separately for / tmp /var / usr ..
When I user wants to navigate through the internet, he must first give his username and password. The password is sent in clear text. I would like to encrypt this using SSL (or an other solution already integrated in Squid). Is this possible in Squid?I read that "user_cert" option can do this, but I couldn't configure it.I have: acl myacl user_cert src 192.168.1.5Which gives: "aclParseAclLine: Invalid ACL type 'user_cert'"The other solution is probably tunneling, but I don't want to install special software on the client machines
View 1 Replies View RelatedCannot get vmware server to work properly running on ubuntu server 9.04

I added vmware server to an existing LAMP server
I recently switched from centos to fedora as my server choice. Probably not the best decision but I like trying new things. Now before I switched I had my samba server setup just they way I wanted it. Now I'm having a hard time getting it back to that way. Here is my smb.conf
Code:
[global]
workgroup = workgroup
netbios name = netbios name
server string = Linux Server
security = user
wins support = yes
encrypt passwords = Yes
domain logons = yes
[homes]
comment = Home Directories
browseable = yes
writable = yes
valid users = %S
[me]
path = /home/me
read only = no
public = yes
create mask = 0777
directory mask = 0777
browseable = yes
writable = yes
Now I did throw away my old smb.conf because it wasn't that complicated and I figured I could reproduce it.. aside from that everything is working except for the fact that I can access any share I want to listed without it requesting a password. I have a username and password setup with smbpasswd and I think everything else is setup correctly involving samba shares but I have no idea why it won't request a password.
In the sys-log from server there a lot of message like this: Code: Apr 25 10:38:45 server portmap[2569]: connect from 192.168.1.3 to getport(nfs): request from unauthorized host Apr 25 10:38:46 server portmap[2570]: connect from 192.168.1.3 to getport(nfs): request from unauthorized host 192.168.1.3 is a client that want to boot from netwrok using PXE and NFS. However it doesn't boot and enters (initramfs) prompt. Seems that the server deny the connection from client.
