Ubuntu :: Write A Script With Several Commands Like Searching Copying?

Jun 27, 2011

I want to do some sort of emacs scripting. Means I want to write a script with several commands like searching copying etc. and then execute it inside of emacs. I'm sure this is possible, but I wasn't able to find a way to do so.

Debian :: Searching For Commands Offline

Jul 25, 2015

Two nights ago I was trying to diagnose what was wrong with my internet connection. I couldn't get web pages to load, IRC and ssh weren't connecting, and email wasn't downloading (I still use POP3). I didn't know what to use to check my internet connection. I did a ping, but I didn't know how to interpret the results. So without the internet, I was totally blind.

Are there documents anywhere which install with Debian which I can search offline when my internet connection dies?

General :: Keeping Mtab Open To Write Next Commands?

Jun 21, 2010

I'm looking at an rc.sysinit:
# Remove stale backups
rm -f /etc/mtab~ /etc/mtab~~
# Enter root, /proc and (potentially) /proc/bus/usb and devfs into mtab.
mount -f /
mount -f /proc
mount -f /sys >/dev/null 2>&1
mount -f /dev/pts
I can't figure out what those "~"'s are doing. From the comments it's keeping mtab open to write the next (how many?) commands?

Ubuntu :: Using Tracker (Searching Tool) In 10.04 Lucid?

Apr 21, 2010

I have been using Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx for some time and I have some problems with Tracker (the searching tool):
1. It looks like it reindexes after every turning on a computer. It always starts at 0/55234 files.
2. It doesn't index e-mails in Evolution. I'm using IMAP, but all mail is marked for offline use. So it's on the harddisk. And it worked in older versions of Ubuntu.
3. GUI is totally different than the one which is shown on the website of Tracker [URL]. How is it possible? Is Ubuntu using some old version? Moreover the Czech translation is lost in Lucid. It was 100% translated in Karmic, and now it's completely English.

Ubuntu :: Synapric Packages - GUI For Viewing And Searching Docs Something Like MSDN?

Feb 27, 2011

There are several package types in synaptic. -doc. Obviously, these are docs. They go into /usr/share/doc folder. Is there some sort of GUI for viewing and searching docs, something like MSDN?

-dev. Not exactly sure about these ones. Are these development files (binaries, source code etc) for coders/developers who want to work on that particular project?

-dbg. Not sure about these ones too. Debug versions of binaries? Shouldn't they be included with development files? Let's be more specific.

libstdc++6. This has runtime for applications compiled with C++.
libstdc++6-4.5-dev. Needed to develop and compile those applications.
libstdc++6-4.5-dbg. Needed to debug applications which use binaries from libstdc++6.
