I have been using this thread for a couple of days and just getting exposed to the vast world of ubuntu after succesfully partitoning the hard drive through a live cd. (a copy of linux for dummies book)So naturally after getting adjusted to the new os I started seeking for downloadable media and applications.Started with flashplayer last night and installed after watching some videos.But when I tried the same thing with vlc through the terminal command; sudo apt-get vlc
The video streaming seased because they wouldn't load it stays searching forever! Now ..... doesn't work.I am afraid that by tampering with the command it also affected the flash player file.This is an ethernet connection , 100 mb/s, netgear router.
The gstreamer-0.10 good plugins in CentOS 5.4 seems to be missing souphttpsrc. I looked online and can only seem to find references to it being in the bad plugins, yet the bad plugins documentation says it was moved to the good plugins.My experience downloading rpms is that the dependencies to build anything for gstreamer require I also download about 20 other rpms.I am reluctant to download/install rpms for a different distro.Has anyone successfully installed newer good plugins (particularly, souphttpsrc)?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI used Rhythmbox for a long time, but I've recently "switched" to openbox, and I don't want a load of GNOME libs and files tainting my clean OS. Also, I don't want any QT apps, by virtue of the fact that I am doing fine with only GTK installed and don't want extra libs. I prefer an audio player on the lighter side. I've been tinkering with Audacious but I guess I just haven't taken to it.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI had been having trouble with Banshee playing podcasts and it turned into a bigger problem. I use VLC so I hadn't noticed, but Totem (and Gstreamer as a whole) can't seem to play h.624 video. All I get is audio, even when I do a command like
gst-launch -v playbin uri=file:///path/to/video.mp4
(Well, now I get nothing, but more on that in a moment).
So I tried reinstalling Gstreamer, and I just tried updating to the Gstreamer Developer PPA. The only change that came from that is that now nothing happens instead of just hearing audio. I've attached the output.
I've gone into gstreamer-properties and tried every configuration. Each time I see the colored stripes and the snowy video corner, but it never seems to make a difference.

When system is playing a media ( e.g. sth.mp3 ) by a media player like Totem, then I open a browser and forward to a page that should play sounds, but everything is pretty normal except the sounds ( I mean there's no sound ).
When firstly open a browser to surf the pages. If there's sound played in the browser, I can't play a audio media in a standalone player ( e.g. Totem ) before I close the browser. But If there isn't any sound played in browser, the outside player will work normally.
The 2 situations happens between no matter Chrome or Firefox and a outside player. I guess there maybe a conflict between gstreamer and adobe flash player. But I am not sure what happened in my system.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm not sure this is the cause, but after I changed the properties of gstreamer, by following a fix on VLC freezing during video playback, I cannot control my desktop anymore.Luckily I can still switch windows thanks to docky. Unfortunately I cannot change the tab in the gstreamer-properties so I can reset my change. I changed the video from default to X11.How can I edit it manually from the command line?

View 8 Replies View Relatedi've recently installed 11.04 and am giving banshee a shot. it seems pretty good although has crashed a few times. but when i import my music folders (about 900GB, 175,000 items .. and growing..) it takes days. that's not such a big problem because it only needs to be indexed once, i assume, ... but the UI is very slow now - so that clicking on an album can take several seconds to bring up the tracklist. also typing into the search box there is a large delay before the matches are shown. is this just to be expected for such a large db? i recall i had google desktop indexing and returning results almost immediately back on winblows.. other ones i have tried include rhythmbox , amarok, songbird .. but have not found any of them to be stable and simple enough to my liking.
can anyone recommend a good player , my essential requirement is a fast and efficient indexing - with tag support would be grand, but just based on filenames is ok too. drag and drop into a play queue like rhthmbox had would be nice.
I am elevating this thread up a level from [url] . Ubuntu 9.10 no longer streams without the screen pausing and going black every 2 minutes! Our product was just going into production and now we need to hopefully find a version of Ubuntu that streams video! We couldn't go with Unbuntu 10.04 because the video streaming was 30% slower than 9.10.

I should note that the flac is a rip of an actual Mono Vinyl disc. Am not exactly sure how that was done but I was interested in converting some those files to ogg & mp3. OGG conversion doesn't give any error.
Below is the result when launching soundconverter from the terminal & trying to convert the flac file(s) to mp3 (i just tried ogg to mp3 & the same error occurs):
