ok so i ran into a problem, im using web min to access my server, and im setting up postfix and, dovecot first problem is i want to be able to access my email account from a web page, with log in, so my question is how can i do that?

I want to cut over to a F10 box but cannot get shares accessible. smbclient attempts fail over NT password error. SELinux is disabled. Server is visible on the network. Users require no password access to shared data.

I made a Desktop User account. When I went on that account, it allowed me to execute sudo as if I was an administrator. I don't know what might be causing this. I do have ufw set up and blocking incoming connections. Do you guys know what might be at the root of this?Also, when I used sudo from the user account (which I shouldn't have been able to do), I provided the password for my admin account.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have Centos installed as part of Strongbolt on a Cobalt RAQ550 Machine. The Admin password and the root password is supposed to be identical. However, I can only login as admin. If I try to access using root, the SSH session shuts down. If I enter another passowrd it gives the correct response and says incorrect password. If I login as admin and then try SU Root - It displays a list of commmand options for SSH and does not allow me to login.

I was trying to have access from a browser to the squirrelmail configtest page in my server, making some changes, I accidentaly remove the directory webmail. After I replace it with a backup apache2 can not start. This is what I have. Syntax error on line 281 of /etc/apache2/apache2.conf: Syntax error on line 1 of [URL].. closed. But I am sure there is a ?> at the end of this file.Base on what I read on [URL]...-with-the-tag/ I test without the ?> also, but I got the same error.
View 2 Replies View RelatedIn the past, I've installed Internet services as daemons and as xinetd.d with no problems. Those approaches do not meet my needs. And, perhaps, nothing will.
- the service was converted from VB-6 to wxPython. It has a GUI which is accessed with either "remote desktop" or VNC.
- the wxPython service works on Windows and can be accessed from other hosts on my LAN
- the wxPython service works on CentOS and Fedora, but can only be accessed from within the server host. Even from other user-ids. But, I cannot get to it from other hosts.
- ipchains AKA firewall ports are marked for INPUT.
- The server host uses autologin to fire up a useid in group "user". I do not want it running as "root". the .bash_profile fires the service up.
- the service is heavily mult-threaded, and supports devices connected to serial ports asynchronously with the ephemeral port threads (all this works).
There are some programming solutions that I would rather not develop.
- a proxy service that runs under xinetd.d.
- separate the GUI code from the Internet and serial port code. Allocate a "control" port for remote GUI control. a'la SAMBA & SWAT
Is there any hope, that I can run it as is, by doing some network configuration stuff.
I have an access database and I would like to build a website on the slackware 12.2 server running apache 2.11.14 to let users query data from the MS Access database. I am thinking that I could just do it in jscript and make a jdbc connection and that should be good. What do you guys think.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI run my own home server using OpenSuse 11.1, everything is setup using apache, php, etc etc, and it all works perfect, but now I need to use my own email server for the use of Dolphin social networking software, so that when someone registers, the email server sends out registration confirmation emails, so I set up postfix, yeah right!!!, even though I followed all instructions to set postfix as a closed relay, a test done at mxtoolbox site still said it was an open relay, but while I was trying to set up postfix, my access to the server slowed down, and my servers drive light was constantly active,,, so when I look at the mail queue, I saw 4000+ emails, all from japan, (hinen.net), so I promptly shut down postfix and use postsuper -d ALL in the command console to delete the queue, but no matter how I try, I couldn't configure postfix as a closed relay,,, so I uninstalled it and installed sendmail, and using webmin, I could use a spam list and block the domain, now, sendmail's test at mxtools show as a closed relay, I can't even send out a test email using smtp auth, but disabling auth, I can, but now my IP is blocked at spam cop, and spamhaus,,, gmail server say my IP is not authorized to send to their servers, but to use my ISP relay instead,,, but my ISP doesn't have a relay,,hence the need to run my own email server.
My home server uses double layer firewall, a hardware firewall between the internet and the server, and a software firewall on the server, and I only allow the ports I need, IE, 80 = http, 443 = https, 20/21 = ftp, 25 = smtp, 110 = pop3. and that's all, but any other internal access from my workstation to the server, using ssh, I only open the ports on the server firewall. If someone here has a great deal of knowledge on sendmail, and can set up a an M4 (linux.mc) config file for me, it would be much appreciated. What I would like my email server to do, is to only allow the sending of emails from inside it's own server system,, ie, when a php script sends an email to the server, then the email server would let it through, but anything else, outside the local network is ignored.

I managed to configure my W890i phone to get access to internet through an ubuntu-based computer. It's very easy to use the phone to give internet access to the computer, but the opposite is quite more tricky. For that I've done the following
----On the phone---
-Set the USB network option to "through computer", so that the phone uses the computer's internet connection and not the opposite.
-Decide and set "Shared Network" parameters: user, pasword and workgroup.
-In "conectivity-> internet connection" set "allow local network" to "yes"
----On Ubuntu 10.04---
-Install samba, samba-client, smbfs, smbclient, firestarter and dhcp3-server
-Configure Samba (System-> Administration-> Shared folders): same workgroup as in the phone, add new user (the phone), passwd this new user. In my case the user was called "w890i" and the password given was the same.
-Once the phone is connected to the computer through USB (then select "phone mode"), a new connection appears in NetworkManager: usb0.The aim is to create a shared network that gives internet access to this device. Edit the IPv4 parameters of this new connection, set them to Manual and give an IP adress (192.168.0.1) and a subnet mask (255.255.255.0); the rest of the fields are left empty.Connect this network.
-Set firestarter to use dhcp3: sudo ln -sf /etc/init.d/dhcp3-server /etc/init.d/dhcpd
-Launch firestarter and follow the wizard. Set "allow internet shared connection", choose the device for the primary internet access, and then the device for the shared network (usb0). Then change the settings for firestarter: activate DHCP for local network, set IP to the one we gave before (192.168.0.1).
-Open dhcp3-server config file sudo gedit /etc/default/dhcp3-server And set INTERFACES="usb0"
-Set the policies of firestarter: in incoming connections, allow connections from the IP adress given to the phone (192.168.0.1). Then add rules for the ports that need to be open for this connection. I opened HTTP, HTTPS, SMB, SMTP, POP3, IMAP, IMAPS, DHCP for all the connections in the local network.
-Apply policies and start the firewall.

After all this, the phone can access the internet through the computer. Two problems appeared:
1. I couldn't get access to https sites, like webmails. The phone gave a "communication error". But then I tried with Opera instead of the browser built in the phone's firmware, and I could finally get to https sites.
2. I couldn't retrieve mail, neither POP nor IMAP nor IMAPS. I thought it was a firmware problem again, and I tried out several mobile phone email clients written in java, but none of them worked.
So this is at the moment the problem. If I connect from the phone to the internet directly through 3G, the email clients work for all my accounts. I don't think it's a firewall problem, because the ports are opened for this connection
I configure named and stumble upon the following problem: named is serious about user rights, every config file named uses should be named:named. I set rights to named:named as follows, but they get changed to root:named when I restart named as root. The same thing happens with SELinux context. This results in access denied type errors.

but yesterday when I went to update the site I got an error called fopen. I thought I fixed it (and boy did I ever) but now I cannot get to my site because it says Forbidden You don't have permission to access / on this server. I have a weird issue where all of the machines in my office can all connect to our web server, either via DNS or using the server IP directly. However, on my machine, which is using the same network IP as the rest of the office and I know it's not being blacklisted, I can't access the server at all via SSH or web or mail. I'm the only machine running Linux, I've flushed the network cache using nscd, but this made no difference. Can anyone think of what might be going on here?
View 10 Replies View RelatedFirst off a little history of me lol. I'm not completely a Linux noobie, but I'm not the most advanced user either. With that said I have a few interesting problems with Samba.First off I can see the NetBios name under Windows Networking (Windows 7), however everytime I try to connect to it I get an Access Denied and/or "Incorrect Password/Username" error. I have gone into secpol.msc and changed the values that other posts have suggested. Both the server and the workstation are located under the same group, and I have used the smbpasswd -a <username>. The server is not configured to be a Primary Domain Controller so.. I'm lost. Infact my brain hurts from 3 days of this. I have posted my SMB.CONF file to see if that helps. Hum.. Maybe I'm just trying to access a file share that isn't there..

I have a strange problem (at least strange to me).
I am running a 64bit CentOS 5 Server with DirectAdmin control panel. I have used the default settings when installing both DA and CentOS. I have not installed any extra firewalls or anything else (yet).
Everything is running perfectly fine. DirectAdmin has been installed and configured fine, and it all is running smoothly. Apart from 1 thing.
When trying to access the server from my office computer (and another, off-site, server), I am unable to access SSH or DA. I am sure there is no problem with my ISP, and no internal firewall blocking these ports. I am running multiple DirectAdmin servers and can access others just fine (SSH too for that matter). However, I am able to access HTTP on the server. So it seems to be JUST SSH and DA.
I am convinced the problem is that my server (the one I'm trying to connect to) has blocked access to SSH and DirectAdmin for my office and server IP. Just to be clear, these services are working from EVERY OTHER location I have tried.
I have checked for the DirectAdmin blocked IP list, and it does not exist (which means its not blocked by DA). Even if it was on the list, that should not affect SSH.

I've recently installed CentOS 5, because I needed a good OS to run VMware Server. Just a heads up, I'm not very familiar with RH/CentOS distros, I usually use Arch Linux. My VMware install went fine, config is standard settings. Now I'm trying to access the VMware Infrastructure Web Access using port 8222 (http) and 8333 (https), but it's a no go. I'm connecting from another machine on the LAN, as the CentOS box is headless. I restarted the vmware services, and they seem to be launching fine. I don't know much about VMware though. I verified with netstat and ports 8222 and 8333 are listening.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a Linux mail server (Fedora). This server was set up long before i joined this organization. Now I have these issues I would request assistance:
1. I am not able to access the Graphical User Interface(gui) on this machine. Startx does not work. I have also tried using combination keys alt+ctrl+f...keys but no progress. As a result am not bale to do some tasks.
2. The clamav that is on the machine has since become outdated. Efforts to update it to latest versions have failed. How do i get to update clamav and protect my system?
3. Because of not being able to access the gui as well as the inability to update clamav have led to my server apparently sending spam mail which in turn have led to my public ip being black listed in a number of sites. Now how can i secure this server so that it stops sending the spam mail and hence avoid future blacklisting?(NB am using postfix and the server sits behind a router which connects to the Internet)
4. I have observed that the server has some iptables rules set but everytime the server restarts the rules stop. I have to manually restart them again to run. How do I sort this?

I've installed centos 5 on an old computer with success and it works great.I can access the web server hosted on the centos server from any computer on the wireless and wired local network. I can also use ssh (putty) and nx client from any computer on the local network (wired and wireless) to access the centos server.On the wireless router I've configured a port forwarding to the wireless network interface on the centos server. I can access the centos server from the outside (internet) through this port forwarding both through http and ssh or nx client.MY problem is that I can't access the centos server from the internet through the wired network interface. Any attempt to view a web page or login with ssh or the nx client will timeout.
View 9 Replies View RelatedWe have a server were we no longer seem to be able to gain access, neither locally or remotely.When we try to connect via SSH we get a "Connection Refused". We have checked that it's not our standard firewall blocking the request, so it can either be the local firewall (which we disabled when installing) or that the process isn't running.However, when we try to login locally on the machine (as root) all we get is "Login failed". We've tried restarting the machine in single user mode to change the root password, and while we can do this succesfully, it still doesn't give us access when rebooting the machine afterwards.No other users (besides the standard users created when installing) are available on the server, so we can't say if this is a problem with the root account, or with logging on in general.

im really impressed with the OS so far, exactly what i've been looking for. the install was a little rough, it hung up on "getting the time from the server" for almost 15 minutes even though i was connected to the internet. then for the first few bootups, the ubuntu boot screen was a box that only took up 1/4 of the screen. but that went away. anyway - im in now and its all looking good, but theres a few things i would like to be able to know how to do.
#1 - how do i set up evolution to access my hotmail account?
#2 - just noticed this while uploading an avatar to this site, the box that pops up that lets you browse your files - theres no view change? i have to click each individual picture to see what it is; can this be changed?
