Ubuntu :: Used IP Block For 10.10 If There Is One Already Out There?
May 2, 2011
I've used IP block for 10.10. I'm wondering if there is, has, or will be a version of IPblock for 11.04? If there is one already out there, where and how do I get it?
Perhaps I might be a minority demographic here, but I am. Is there a way and how? Ubuntu Software Center doesn't seem to have this option. I come from a long history of being a Windows power user, and I am picking up pretty quickly with this stuff. I find QT ones leave little screen droppings and it bugs me to no end. Some might not, but I like it to be kind of GTK pure. If I wanted a QT app I would have picked Kubuntu with KDE. I admit that it is kind of cool that you can run an app from another desktop and vice versa. I am not trying to start a flame war, nor am I dissing any of the developers that may have made some awesome QT application I may not know about. Is there another software center like thing I can install that at least combines all the QT and GTK ones into separate groups rather than making me fend for myself?
i dont like microsoft. I refuse to support them or give them market share in any way. I get tired of going to a website just to have microsoft linked in it somehow, such as having a bing map display on the page. Is there a way to configure Privoxy to completely block all microsoft related crap? A list or range of IP's that could be blocked? If so, anyone know where I can get a list of microsoft ip's to block?
In a book, I read tha cmchk command is used to get the disk block size. But in Ubuntu, it is not allowed as command is not available. Can some body tell me what is its equivalent in Ubuntu.
I need some suggestions on software. I would like to offer remote desktop support to some of our clients, but some of them are using ISP's that block incoming connections so, VNC is out of the question. I was wondering if there is something similar to logmein for ubuntu?
I want to block all outgoing traffic with iptables and only allow a few specific websites. I would like to get the code to do so and also to revert the changes in case I want to unblock them.
I'm trying to block an incoming URL. My ISP is hijacking 404 pages and annoyingly changing the URL line in the browser and flashing all sorts of popup ads. I just need it for incoming URLs which my router doesn't seem to handle. I'd prefer something packaged with Ubuntu 8.04, but anything simple will do. I know in KDE I could edit the kdeglobals file with:
how do i unblock (diablo 2 + lod) install.... when i try to open threw wine it says its blocked and im using an actull cd so its not curupted cd cuz i just installed on my 2nd pc which has windows XP on it
Is there anyway that I can prevent access to the hosts file, or any file for that matter, for a time that I can specify, so that within that time no one will be able to open and edit the said file?
I was following the directions over on the page How to watch Hulu overseas without a proxy server and got to the section about blocking ports, which I need to block port 1935. I figured this would be easy, as the mac instructions are
Code: sudo ipfw add 0 deny tcp from any to any 1935 sudo ipfw add 0 deny udp from any to any 1935 and the Windows instructions are practically a book in itself. Since this page was lacking instructions on how to do it in Ubuntu, and ipfw seemingly doesn't exist in Ubuntu, how do I block the ports
I need to get ppa working. Everything works, but when I need to add new ppa repo everything stucks at key from keyserver download. It is the fault of the filtered network connection with p2p ports block (it's academical network). However already added repos are not affected. What can I do about it? It sucks a lot. I can't wait until weekend to get some repos!!!
I've noticed in my Apache logs a lot of hits to a specific URL on my server. The thing is, the URL is invalid and returns a 404. Every hit has a different Agent ID (things like Windows NT 4 and IE 8, Mac OS and Safari, Windows 7 and Mozilla, etc) and usually a slightly different IP address. If you browse the URL with Chrome/Firefox, it gets reported as potential phishing activity - despite it only returning a 404 error.
I blocked a range of IPs with IPTables which worked for a while, but I can see the IP address has changed again (outside of the range I set) and is generating logs again.
Is it possible to automatically block any IP attempting to access this specific URL?
Is it possible to block a server completely from any connectivity to my Ubuntu system so that not even Google Search will detect files from that server?[URL]This is because of a nightmare issue I have been having with the Firefox Addon "DownThemAll!" which, I won't go further into.
I'm using firefox and I'm trying to block [URL] by ading the line 127.0.0.1 [URL] in /etc/hosts but it don't work. I get this error message in terminal;
Code: (gedit:11640): Gtk-WARNING **: Attempting to store changes into `/root/.local/share/recently-used.xbel', but failed: Failed to create file '/root/.local/share/recently-used.xbel.ZTL1UV': No such file or directory (gedit:11640): Gtk-WARNING **: Attempting to set the permissions of `/root/.local/share/recently-used.xbel', but failed: No such file or directory
I created an account for my brother but it's a very limited account, just so he can browse and listen to music and stuff like that. However, what I do find funny is the fact that accounts are secured with a password but limited accounts can browse to /home and see the files of everyone, even admins, without Ubuntu asking for a password.I obviously do not want this to happen.Anyway, is there any way I can block him from being able to browse to my homefolder, other than encrypting it?
I want to simulate a bad block or sector on a drive or even a virtual drive image to test my data recovery distro. I wish I would have bookmarked when I read about it before. It was some type of low level command, I remember something about scsi subsystem or kernel thingabob.
My question is how to block a subdomain of a site. To make it as clear as possible, I'll give an example. I am regularly entering this arbitrary site [URL] which redirects me to this page [URL] and this index.html takes an image from a subdomain which is a subfolder of itself, that is: [URL]. What I am asking is blocking the images to be taken, but not the main page itself, i.e. to block www.somesite.abc/images/ without blocking the overall www.somesite.abc.
My idea was to use the /etc/hosts file by redirecting to loopback address: Code: 127.0.0.1 www.somesite.abc/images But it looks as if it doesn't affect things at all. Should I use it another way? Modifying /etc/hosts.deny maybe useful?
I have noticed interesting problem. I use two browsers - Firefox and Konqueror. Konqueror is configured to use tor, Firefox not. Using Gufw I block all incoming and outgoing traffic and it works while using Firefox, I mean that I can't view any www site and it is ok. But if I use Konqueror I can establish any conection. How to understand this? Should I have different firewall while using tor?
I have Facebook blocked in certain areas on my network. So certain machines cannot navigate Facebook. One other issue is chatting with 3rd party clients. How do I block that? Can I block a certain port on the firewall/router? I can't seem to find what Facebook uses.
how to keep the XP my documents folder private and blocked from other XP users, but I can still access this folder from all of my Ubuntu user accounts.
Is there a way I can block this folders access from within Ubuntu?
I have a Thomson TG782T, I live with 2 people, I don't want one of them using my internet as i never see any money for it, I don't want to change the WPA, Is there anyway i can just block the one laptop?
I'm trying to troubleshoot a block seek error with a particular DVD (most DVDs work with my computer, just a random few that fail). The failure is (I presume) caused by incorrect information on the DVD itself to try to fool unlicensed players. I get a libdvdread error "Can't seek to block ...". I have traced this error message to three sources in dvd_reader.c. I have modified the error message so that it also prints the file name and the line, but I am having such a hell of a time trying to compile libdvdread. I have installed libdvdcss2-dev, and most of the other obvious development packages. However, the instructions for compiling lindvdread make no sense (I am assuming they want me to run the 'configure2' script here) and it is throwing up all kind of weird compiler errors. This can obviously be compiled somewhere for a binary package to exist. How this is done?
For example, can I write something to the effect: block all outbound UDP connections over port 53 except those going to IP 123.456.789. Or stated another way: Block outbound to port 53/udp NOT going to ip address 123.454.678Is it possible to do this? How would I write the argument?
I was running Kubuntu Natty Narwhal installed on my USB disk and a download in Firefox was in progress. There was a power failure and now when i try to boot it up it first says:invalid environment block and when continued says: /tmp not yet readyIt cannot automatically fix it. Skipping the mount or ignoring doesnt work. And i dont know what's going on so i cannot fix it manually.
Currently I have 2 Lan card in My System one for communicate client pcs (Lan card Ip 192.168.1.100) and other for Internet (Lan card ip 192.168.0.100.) All client pcs are in 192.168.1.0 Subnet Here i implement my system as router through iptables all clients are communicate through only 192.168.1.100 (clients default gateway also 192.168.1.100) Now no problem for forward rules when my system is active all clients are get internet.
Now i want to block some ip address and port ways i tried lot of things in internet when i type iptables -A INPUT -s 192.168.1.150 -j REJECT (i found in internet it will block that ip address for getting internet and any access through my sys)
