OpenSUSE Network :: FreeNX For People Upgrading To 11.3?
Jul 18, 2010Just incase anyone is suffering from the same problem as I was after upgrading to 11.3 that there was no such file or directory in /var/lib/nxserver/db/running/sessionID. I found the answer in another forum and thought i would post it here. Basically there is a change in the openssl library used to calculate the md5sum used by nx which stopped it from connecting.
Putting
COMMAND_MD5SUM="md5sum"
at the end of /etc/nxserver/node.conf fixes the problem.

And can not get my network setup correctly to allow people to connect externally from my LAN. I have forwarded every relevant port I could find to the computer hosting TS, I forwarded them first as their respective protocols, and then as the combined UDP/TCP. I tried Forwarding single port numbers, and then port ranges.I have also tried uninstalling selinux.I have tried connecting directly to my cable modem with the server.I had this working perfectly three months ago with all the same software, using the same guide I listed above.The only thing I can imagine has changed is my operating system itself with system updates.
My network looks like:
Comcast cable modem--->Netgear WNR3500L Router----->Ubuntu 10.04 x86 desktop edition
what else I could possibly check? I can connect to and manage the TS server fine using localhost:9987 or 192.168.1.x:9987, it just wont allow any connections from outside the network.

It is the fault of the filtered network connection with p2p ports block (it's academical network). However already added repos are not affected. What can I do about it? It sucks a lot. Jun 25, 2010I have a Suse 10.3 router with 4 network cards. 1 is to connect to the big network and thereby also the internet, 2 are for 'client' subnets and I want to use the last one as a DMZ. In this DMZ will be a web server which has to be accessible from the other 2 subnets and from the big network. I could do it with a few simple clicks in Yast firewall, but I have some issues with this firewall and there for I want to use it as minimal as possible, using Iptables.
So now I'm struggling a bit with Iptables. Basicly what I'm looking for is how to block all ports but 80 in this last subnet with iptables.

They seem to just connect and i don't want to have to change the password particularly because that involves changing it on multiple devices.

I have one virtual host with a sub directory that contains pdf news letters.do not want the directory browsable and tried putting an index.php file that re-directshe user to the root directory but when I go to the [web address]/[directory name] in any browser I see the contents of the folder listed.
Currently the news letter list is drawn from a database table and displayed as links on a page in the root directory. The links point to the file name in the sub directory. How do I block users from going to that sub directory and seeinge contents of that directory listed? Would I add another <directory> statement in the vhosts.conf file? If so how would I structure that directive?

Mar 7, 2010I'm using Ubuntu 9.10 (2.6.31-20-generic) and I've installed my camera (Microdia Win2 PC Camera 0c45:613b) and it works fine and everything locally. But as soon as it connects to a contact on MSN or skype and I've tried a web chatroom aswell. and same issue.
Now is it the Camera? 'Coz when I've had the cam installed on Windows XP it wouldn't work on MSN either. But if it the camera then, why does it work locally like it should on the net....

Mar 20, 2011I've read several accounts of users who upgraded Ubuntu versions and ran into problems. I read that putting /home on a separate partition can make it easier to do upgrades. But it seems to me application versions and even the default applications themselves change so much between Ubuntu releases that I question whether it's a good idea to have all the "OLD" config files and settings that get stored in /home sitting around when running a new Ubuntu release.Does anyone think it's a better idea to just put the whole Ubuntu install (i.e., / and /home) on the same partition? And then when upgrading, backup, and then just fresh install everything (to get the cleanest possible installation)?

Nov 24, 2010I recently reformatted and dual partitioned to both Windows 7 as well as ubuntu 10.10. Loading works fine and Windows 7 is 100% operational. I cannot seem to get my wireless network adapter to be read by Ubuntus 'Windows Wireless Drivers' gui. Here are the steps that I have done THUS far, to make sure that we are all on the right path. Before I go any further, my wireless network adapter is an old school WUSB11 Linksys Wireless Network Adapter (running version 2.6).
1) Downloaded and installed "ndiswrapper" from ubuntu's main website. I downloaded the common, utils and ndisgtk files and installed them accordingly.
2) I extracted these three files to the desktop of Ubuntu and accessed the terminal page.
3) From terminal I typed "cd Desktop" to change the directory to the desktop.
4) Next, I typed in "Sudo dpkg -i ndiswrapper-common_1.54-2ubuntu1_all.deb
Sudo dpkg -i ndiswrapper-utils-1.9_1.54-2ubuntu1_i386.deb
Sudo dpkg -i ndisgtk_0.8.5-1_i386.deb"
5) This installed Windows Wireless Drivers gui successfully and I can access it.
6) I have downloaded the driver files for the adapter from the cisco website and searched them for the required files needed.
7) After extracting the .INF file from the "Drivers" directory named "NETUSB.SYS" (I wasn't sure if the other associated files within the same folder needed to be present together with NETUSB so I moved everything to the desktop) I typed in "sudo ndiswrapper -i NETUSB.inf". After accessing the Windows Wireless Drivers gui I have noticed that the 'netusb' driver is present yet under it, the system states "Hardware present: No". This leads me to believe that maybe I installed incorrectly or my "fireware?" is not present? I was reading through the installation guide posted on the ubuntu website that in addition to the .INF file we also need the BIN file(s)? and SYS file(s)?.. The folder with the drivers for my adapter contains a BIN file but it is not within the "Drivers" section of the folder.
9) Upon mousing over the network Icon naturally my hardware is still not present.
10) From what I gather after the system finds the hardware I am to write into the terminal

I have just performed the first clean install since new. Installed a new Hard Drive as well. The machine and wifi was fine under Ubuntu 9.04.
