I have downloaded the Ubuntu Netbook 10.04 iso about a week ago, and it's in the same folder as Wubi. It keeps trying to download another image even though the one is in the same folder. The image is not corrupted. How can I use the pre-downloaded iso?
I recently downloaded xubuntu 11.04. I run it live from USB it runs fine. Now i want to install it. I want to install it with wubi because in this case their less chance of data loss and easier to use. When i put all the downloaded files(inside downloaded iso) and run wubi(that came with iso)int the same folder it tries to download set up from internet. this is the error. why it is not working with files in that folder.OK I try to install this this from xubuntu bootable USB using wubi it runs better install it runs for a minute(installs files) but at the end of installation same error occur says can't connect to internet. Did you know any way to install xubuntu using wubi using downloaded ISO.
I want to upgrade to ubuntu 11.04 and I downloaded the iso but it didn't detect my previous installation of ubuntu 10.10. So I thought of going to programs and features and doing a complete uninstall but ubuntu wasn't listed in there even though I installed using WUBI in C drive now what am I supposed to do? Delete all ubuntu files manually? [URL]
Downloaded Wubi on Win 7- 64 bit. ran it,a nd it asked for password. I gave it my Ubuntu account password a d it did not work. I also gave it my PC's password, it still does not work...
I wanted to install ubuntu via wubi, but i had to format my partitions (can't do it on wubi ) so i used a crappy program(i don't remember the name) to get rid of Backtrack4 , because i wanted windows kept for my mom.So, that was the sorry, i've ended up with a GRUB error 22, and a Backtrack4 CD stuck in my DVD-rom.So my question is: Can somewone tell me how to fix error 22? (i've seen some methods online, but i obviously can't put a Windows CD in my DVD rom because the Backtrack4 DVD is stuck in there.
after the netinst finished to download the last package, one hour later the process never continues, I checked the log file and I didn't find anything suspecious, also dmesg and nothing, in fact, in the log file before checked I found that the last line was registered just a minute ago - DHCP renew IP-, so my questions are:
1. all the packages downloaded are gone?, can I restart the installation using all those packages downloaded?
2. where I can find the error or problem that cause that the installation was freezed?
3. in the case that installation needs to start from the beginning, can I use the package downloaded?
I downloaded, through the torrent, the Pink Floyd's Live in Gdansk concert. It first downloaded as an ISO and when I unzipped I now have 5 CD folders with bin files in them. I've searched and followed many different instructions to open the bin files but nothing is working. How to be able to listen to the music?
i have just installed ubuntu on my windows vista operating system. on my system i have java and all sorts of software installed. i was wondering if it is possible to use the downloaded software on ubuntu? or do i have to install it on ubuntu seperately?
I am on a pretty slow connection. So i would like to keep a copy of files I have once downloaded offline. Where will files I download from terminal like this be saved at? (for example wine)
I need to install Mercurial, and i want to do it through the shell. Yesterday i tried it, but i got the 1.1.5 version (something like that),but i need the newest version. How can i check the version of the package being downloaded (or about to be) and/or get the newest version?
I went through and downloaded quite a few different media players, looking for one that would play this DVD. Well, I finally found one that worked, but now I can't remember which one it is, so I don't know which ones to remove. I want a media player that allows me to watch DVD's, listen to MP3/4's, watch all different types of movie files, make play lists, etc. Here's the list of what I have installed:
Amarok Banshee Dragon Player Freevo Kaffeine Movie Player Movie Player Totem (xine backend) Rhythmbox VLC Media Player
So, which ones can I get rid of, and which one(s) should I keep?
I'm looking for some guidance on how to install a mainline kernel. I opened a ticket for a problem I'm having here: [URL]. It was suggested to me that I go here for instructions on how to install the mainline kernels: [URL]. However, when I go there, it explains what to download if you have 32 bit intel (i386) or AMD 64 bit (amd64), but does anyone know what I should download if I need an x86_64 (64bit 10.04 lucid) kernel? Is it i386? Wouldn't that just be 32 bits? I have a Dell e6510 laptop running 64 bit lucid (10.04 - kernel 2.6.32-23) on an Intel Core i5. My laptop stopped working when the 2.6.32-24 kernel was downloaded and installed through the update manager.
i installed many software and games from sudo apt-get install <name> i just want to know can we save the setup of the games or softwares downloaded this way?
Recently I installed airlines-themes, using the command
Code: sudo aptitude install airlines-theme It worked perfectly. My question is where are all these packages downloaded locally, so that if needed I can install them later without an Internet connection. Not just theme, I can do it for other application as well (for eg. ubuntu tweak and many others).
I dont know what the problem is ive downloaded 2 different images of ubuntu 10.10 and one for 10.04. Ive also tried the Wubi.exe download as well. everytime i try and install inside windows it gives me the error right at the end tells me that permission is denied and to check the logs. I know that im not the only one that is having this problem. I have tried to reburn the image at a slower speed only thing that i havent tried is installing using a thumb drive.
I'm trying to make a boot-able CD from a downloaded 10.04 (amd64) iso file. I downloaded the iso file and burned the CD according to the instructions on the ubuntu site. The CD would not boot and the only message was ISOLINUX .... then the computer shut down. Re-downloaded the iso file, re-burned CD, same result. Installed new CD drive, re-burned, same result. What I'm I missing? I'm fairly new to Linux but have been using 8.04-10.04 for about six months. I'm trying to make a boot-able Live CD so I can do a clean install on a new HD.
Whenever I download a .doc file I send to myself and open it in OpenOffice via Ubuntu 10.04, it opens as a read-only that I "do not have the rights" to alter. This is obnoxious, because then I have to copy and paste the entire thing, which can lead to format issues, before I can continue to work on the document.
I switched from 9.10 to 10.10. In 9.10 there was a folder where the temporary flv ..... video files were downloaded, so I could capture them before being deleted. Now with 10.10, which is the folder? /tmp isn't, I'm watching videos but no flashxxxxx files there.
I am very new at Ubuntu, I only recently changed over from windows cause my computer was infested with a bagillion viruses. I have been trying to customize all my displays and I found a bunch of theme's for my login screen at the gnome web page, but i cant figure out how to implement them. It took me long enough to figure out how to change my desktop, but it seems there is no easy way to change the login screen. I got Ubuntu tweak, but that only allows you to change the background and the button, I was hoping to find a way to use the ones downloaded from the web. Does anyone know hpow to easily apply a gnome theme to your ubuntu login screen/boot menu?
just downloaded a deb file for Picasa but cant seem to find the actual program I see icons but they lead to other files I managed to download skype and found it/moved it to desktop
I have just loaded ubuntu onto my laptop so complete beginner
Just installed Ubuntu 11.04 32-bit on an older Dell D610 laptop. Everything was running a little slow but all in all running fine except one thing - I downloaded the Chrome deb file and also the deb file from Moneydance. When I double-click on either of these deb files, it opens up the Ubuntu Software Center and shows an 'Install' button for the app. I click Install and then enter my root password, then nothing happens. A short while later the Install button turns from grayed out to clickable again. So I click it again, and it says that the deb file is not packaged correctly.
I've tried it with multiple deb files now and get the same thing. Installing directly through the Ubuntu Software Center works fine, but unortunately Chrome and Moneydance aren't in there (I prefer Chrome to Chromium). What could be causing this?
Also - due to the slowness of the Ubuntu install I did a clean install to Xubuntu and I like that much better and it is running perfectly except for this issue of not being able to install any 3rd-party downloaded apps.
Am trying to burn an iso image that i downloaded. When using Brasero (even on the slowest burn) and at the end i get an error message. Have also tried XfBurn, but when i choose the file the image is in and click to open it appears on the very top of the panel and i can't get into it.
