Recently I installed airlines-themes, using the command
Code: sudo aptitude install airlines-theme It worked perfectly. My question is where are all these packages downloaded locally, so that if needed I can install them later without an Internet connection. Not just theme, I can do it for other application as well (for eg. ubuntu tweak and many others).
after the netinst finished to download the last package, one hour later the process never continues, I checked the log file and I didn't find anything suspecious, also dmesg and nothing, in fact, in the log file before checked I found that the last line was registered just a minute ago - DHCP renew IP-, so my questions are:
1. all the packages downloaded are gone?, can I restart the installation using all those packages downloaded?
2. where I can find the error or problem that cause that the installation was freezed?
3. in the case that installation needs to start from the beginning, can I use the package downloaded?
without internet connection (on Ubuntu), and need to install MySql. I have all packages needed for instalation, but i cannot import them in Synaptic Package Manager. how to add this? I have tried with: file->add downloaded packages, but it do nothing.

this seems to keep downloaded packages. in the dir specified at:
cachedir=/var/cache/yum
the next time i wish to use these packages and install them, how would i use yum to do this or do i just use rpm instead ? Would it be necessary to connect to the internet to do this? What about those package dependencies will i have to install them all one at a time?
it is possible for me to save/backup packages downloaded using Synaptic or the Ubuntu Software Center? Where I live (South Africa) we have seriously limited internet and I do not want to download all my extra packages again if I have to reinstall Linux for some reason.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded from F13 to F14 using "preupgrade". This is the first time I've used preupgrade. So far, F14 is running OK. There are some leftovers from F13 and I'm wondering if this is correct.
Q1: There are 176 F13 packages remaining. [alfrugal@localhost Documents]$ rpm -qa | grep fc13 | wc -l 176 Is this OK? FWIW, after the upgrade, I ran "package-cleanup --orphans" as recommended by the "preupgrade" page on the Fedora Project wiki.
Q2: Also, my GRUB menu was correctly updated for F14, but it still contains the three entries it had for F13. Is it normal for the preupgrade process to require the user to clean up the obsolete entries from the GRUB menu?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI dont know what the problem is ive downloaded 2 different images of ubuntu 10.10 and one for 10.04. Ive also tried the Wubi.exe download as well. everytime i try and install inside windows it gives me the error right at the end tells me that permission is denied and to check the logs. I know that im not the only one that is having this problem. I have tried to reburn the image at a slower speed only thing that i havent tried is installing using a thumb drive.
View 9 Replies View RelatedSo, my experience with the upgrade. Going from 9.10 64-bit to 10.4 64-bit. Tried to be a decent, sharing sort and downloaded the LiveCD for 64-bit from torrent. No problem. Didnt have any blank CDs handy, but I had a 1GB USB thumb drive that I have used to install other distros that I wanted to test, so used unetbootin to make my installation on. No problem.
LiveCD tried to run, but hung with a black screen; no blinking cursor, nothing. Problem. Restart, go back to my functioning system, and re-create the LiveCD on the thumb drive using USB Startup Disc Creator. No problem. Reboot. Monitor went into standby and never came out. Problem. Decided to give up on the LiveCD. Downloaded the alternate-install CD for 64-bit and put it on the thumb drive. No problem.
Installation went fine. No major hang-ups at this point. Had the grub_puts problem, even though I specified the correct place, and so had to reinstall grub, which fixed that.
Although it is still early in the process for me, my main (relatively minor) gripe is the same one I always have: Although Linux seems to be able to tell a lot about the hardware (through what I assume is either asking the hardware about it capabilities or getting info from the BIOS, perhaps), why can it not tell that my keyboard numlock key is supposed to be ON? My BIOS is set to turn it on at boot. My username and password both have numbers in them, and it is convenient for me to have the numlock on at boot and remain on.
I fully realize that there are many users of notebooks/netbooks that having this setting ON for default is a problem. I dont want it ON as default. I want a simple way to change the setting. Ive seen complaints and questions about this since at least Edgy (there may be older postings, but I havent needed to research back). System>Preferences>Keyboard can let me do so many things with my keyboard - except this, apparently.
I use a Karmic Koala and I want to upgrade to Lucid Lynx. All the packages are up to date. So if I upgrade online, how much data download am I looking at? I have a sufficiently fast connection, but I have a limit on the data that I can download. Is it less than downloading a Lucid Lynx CD? Can I get an exact figure somehow?

Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.I've tried changing the servers to MAIN and others, and still no way to solve it. When I downloaded the file, the file appeared on my desktop as an unknown file with the name "ubuntu-10.04.1-desktop-i386". I thought this was strange because it didn't have the ".iso" after it. I tried looking for a download location for the file that would give me a .iso file, but whenever I download the file it just appears on my desktop as "ubuntu-10.04.1-desktop-i386". After that, I downloaded Infra Recorder, and followed those instructions. Everything was going fine and when the progress bar hit 100%, Infra Recorder gave me some kind of error.
I can't recall exactly what it said, but it said to check the log file or something like that. I wasn't sure what to do at this point, so I tried installing Ubuntu anyway. I rebooted with the CD and it took me to the burgundy screen and it started to load, but then the installation crashed to an MS DOS screen with some gibberish that I didn't understand. Obviously the CD I wrote didn't have all of the installation files it needed. What should I do? Is there something wrong with the file that I downloaded? My computer is a Dell Vostro 200 and I am running Windows XP.
