I want to upgrade to ubuntu 11.04 and I downloaded the iso but it didn't detect my previous installation of ubuntu 10.10. So I thought of going to programs and features and doing a complete uninstall but ubuntu wasn't listed in there even though I installed using WUBI in C drive now what am I supposed to do? I want to install it with wubi because in this case their less chance of data loss and easier to use. When i put all the downloaded files(inside downloaded iso) and run wubi(that came with iso)int the same folder it tries to download set up from internet. this is the error. why it is not working with files in that folder.OK I try to install this this from xubuntu bootable USB using wubi it runs better install it runs for a minute(installs files) but at the end of installation same error occur says can't connect to internet. Did you know any way to install xubuntu using wubi using downloaded ISO.

View 7 Replies View RelatedGoing into my 5th day on trying to get linux to work on my system. I first tried a backtrack DVD but it failed to install after a kernel panic. I tried using ubuntu 9 and 8 but they both freezed at the livecd menu in bios and gave an i/o error.
So I tried using WUBI but after choosing "UBUNTU" in the windows boot manager after the bios, it fails to load. So i try to uninstall Wubi, and i get this:

I'm guessing there is something very wrong with my pc, due to the i/o errors with both the ubuntu cd's and BT4.

Like the title says, I uninstalled wubi 10.04 last night and I noticed that my computer was running extremely slowly. I checked the amount of RAM and it said I only had 1 GIG which is definitely wrong. I have 3 GIGs. how I can recover that lost memory? I've tried searching google and haven't really found anything promising..

View 4 Replies View Relatedafter the netinst finished to download the last package, one hour later the process never continues, I checked the log file and I didn't find anything suspecious, also dmesg and nothing, in fact, in the log file before checked I found that the last line was registered just a minute ago - DHCP renew IP-, so my questions are:
1. all the packages downloaded are gone?, can I restart the installation using all those packages downloaded?
2. where I can find the error or problem that cause that the installation was freezed?
3. in the case that installation needs to start from the beginning, can I use the package downloaded?
So yeah I want to transfer my system to the real Ubuntu. Problem is I can't boot into my Wubi Ubuntu cause I lost boot.

I'm looking for some guidance on how to install a mainline kernel. I opened a ticket for a problem I'm having here: [URL]. It was suggested to me that I go here for instructions on how to install the mainline kernels: [URL]. However, when I go there, it explains what to download if you have 32 bit intel (i386) or AMD 64 bit (amd64), but does anyone know what I should download if I need an x86_64 (64bit 10.04 lucid) kernel? Is it i386? Wouldn't that just be 32 bits? I have a Dell e6510 laptop running 64 bit lucid (10.04 - kernel 2.6.32-23) on an Intel Core i5. My laptop stopped working when the 2.6.32-24 kernel was downloaded and installed through the update manager.

My question is where are all these packages downloaded locally, so that if needed I can install them later without an Internet connection. I dont know what the problem is ive downloaded 2 different images of ubuntu 10.10 and one for 10.04. Ive also tried the Wubi.exe download as well. everytime i try and install inside windows it gives me the error right at the end tells me that permission is denied and to check the logs. I know that im not the only one that is having this problem. I have tried to reburn the image at a slower speed only thing that i havent tried is installing using a thumb drive.
