View 3 RepliesI downloaded the demo of Penumbra Overture, it is a .sh file (113Mb). I can't open the file. In a terminal I ran chmod +x PenumbraOvertureDemo-2553.sh and then sudo ./PenumbraOvertureDemo-2553.sh and I get an error "./PenumbraOvertureDemo-2553.sh: 2: Syntax error: "(" unexpected" . The quotation marks are my own. Is the file corrupted? One of my lugmates thinks it might be a shar file, but Karmic says that it is a shell script. Another friend says that it is too large to be a shell script. Here is the code:
john@john-laptop:~$ cd /home/john/00
john@john-laptop:~/00$ chmod +x PenumbraOvertureDemo-2553.sh
john@john-laptop:~/00$ sudo ./PenumbraOvertureDemo-2553.sh

I am having problems installing the OOO_3.2.1_Linux_x86_install-deb_en-US.tar.gz install package from openoffice.org. When I unpack the tar.gz file, I get another folder labeled OOO320_m18_native_packed-1_en-US.9502, which as a folder named DEBS that has number of .deb files. How do I install the mentioned file or files? I would like to use the download for installation, so I can get the updated version of OpenOffice, and not use the Ubuntu repository.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have been having problems with Ubuntu. I just downloaded it yesterday and burned it to CD. However, when attempting to install it, I get errors. Unfortunately, I cannot recall the exact error but it stops the install. I will give further information later but wanted to ask if anyone has heard of this happening and if so, what the problems might be? I checked it with the MD5 and it appears to be a valid file, but the disk is giving me errors!

View 5 Replies View RelatedAlright, so I followed the step by step instructions from this page: [URL]. When I downloaded the file, the file appeared on my desktop as an unknown file with the name "ubuntu-10.04.1-desktop-i386". I thought this was strange because it didn't have the ".iso" after it. I tried looking for a download location for the file that would give me a .iso file, but whenever I download the file it just appears on my desktop as "ubuntu-10.04.1-desktop-i386". After that, I downloaded Infra Recorder, and followed those instructions. Everything was going fine and when the progress bar hit 100%, Infra Recorder gave me some kind of error.
I can't recall exactly what it said, but it said to check the log file or something like that. I wasn't sure what to do at this point, so I tried installing Ubuntu anyway. I rebooted with the CD and it took me to the burgundy screen and it started to load, but then the installation crashed to an MS DOS screen with some gibberish that I didn't understand. Obviously the CD I wrote didn't have all of the installation files it needed. What should I do? Is there something wrong with the file that I downloaded? My computer is a Dell Vostro 200 and I am running Windows XP.
I want to install this program:I tried to download and unpack, but that dosnt seem to get me anywhere.Until now i have only tried installing through YaST.I dont understand the manual on the website.
View 9 Replies View Relatedafter the netinst finished to download the last package, one hour later the process never continues, I checked the log file and I didn't find anything suspecious, also dmesg and nothing, in fact, in the log file before checked I found that the last line was registered just a minute ago - DHCP renew IP-, so my questions are:
1. all the packages downloaded are gone?, can I restart the installation using all those packages downloaded?
2. where I can find the error or problem that cause that the installation was freezed?
3. in the case that installation needs to start from the beginning, can I use the package downloaded?
Running Ubuntu 10.04 currently. But for some reason cant seem to find what im looking for about making USB drives bootable once ive downloaded the .iso file i want. USB-creator-gtk seems to only work with the ubuntu family. ImageWriter only works with .img files? I want to play around with other linux distros from .iso. I tried makebootfat and got some errors. ill post them later if you guys think makebootfat is the way to go but i think im making it to too hard on myself.

I am very new to linux. I just got the dual boot working a couple of days ago. Now I downloaded MATLAB (2009b) from my university website. It came in a zip file...well I have no clue how to install it. I looked at the instruction manual, it doesn't really explain much.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've got something or someone downloading from me, probably scraping, and i can't figure out WHAT is using all of my bandwidth, and WHERE it's coming from.I don't know what SERVICE its from (eg, is this an apache request, or DNS DOS), what FILES are being accessed (if any, eg apache requests/scrape), and what IP is requesting them.My apache logs isn't showing anything that makes me thing i'm being scrapped. I'm kinda stuck in a brain fart right now and can't remember how to track this down, but the long and short is that all of my band width is being consumed, and 1 of my CPU cores is staying maxed out ("top" says that it's the avahi service).I've shut off the following services 1 by 1 to see if any of them would cause a drop in network usage, and none of them did:
apache
samba

I followed the following step given on an openSuSE site but I am still encountering the same problem i.e. a phpinfo.php file gets downloaded when I browse it in my browser. In case the browser wants to save your php files instead of displaying the content, you should enable php support in the /etc/apache2/mod_userdir.conf file. Add the following line to it, just after the <Directory /home/*/public_html> line and restart the server.Include /etc/apache2/conf.d/php5.conf

How can I know the filesize of the downloaded file before downloading it?
Using Ubuntu/Fedora
For some reason when I open a file downloaded in Chromium, it opens it in Firefox!
Similarly GNOME Do opens files in Firefox.
Why is that?
How to make it use the proper program?
Where are the associations stored?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI want to track the number of requests that a file gets downloaded and viewed.
What I have is mp4 files on the server and they could either get played in flash player or downloaded via mobile or whatever.
I need to see how many times that files gets downloaded or viewed. Since its in a php page I am able to track the number of views. But I want to able to track the direct downloads.
I was thinking something along the lines of htaccess redirect to php then to file.
But that would mess up the player from playing the file I would think. I am not sure how to make that happen with the htaccess either though.
