Ubuntu :: Usb Device Wont Format?

Dec 25, 2010

I tried to make a startup disk using an 8gb usb drive and set 4gb of space to save documents however it looked like the installation froze so I cancelled it and deleted the partition in the disk utility however now it shows up as unknown in ubuntu and RAW in vista. I only got it today so it would be nice if I could fix it

Ubuntu Servers :: Partition RAID Device (MD0) And Then Format It?

Feb 26, 2011

I am finally, and happily ditching Windows IIS, SQL Server, and ASP in favor of LAMP. Not only will I save a bunch of money on operating systems but I've found php and MySQL development to be much faster than their Microsoft counterparts.Currently I have two W2008 and two Ubuntu servers running and doing virtually parallel tasks. I want to can the W2008 machines but I am not 100% sure of my Ubuntu mirrors.Everything seems to be working fine. I've copied tons of data back and forth as a primitive test but sometimes things work fine for all the wrong reasons. Here's where I get confused.

Question 1:Do I need to partition the RAID device (MD0) and then format it?From my experience this is necessary to get the device to mount.

Question 2:In this case was it also necessary to format the individual drive partitions?

Question 3:If I do a daily cat /proc/mdstat is this all I need to do to check the drive status.

Question 4:Is there any other check I can do to assure that the mirrors are created, mounted, and operating correctly?

Debian :: Format The Target Device ( A 4G Compact Flash )?

Oct 8, 2010

I need to install an aplication to several machines. The aplication runs on a Debian and the installation process is done with a usb. I'm using a plop live usb to perform the installation. I've seen that with plop , once the live system is on, i can run some scripts.

What I'm trying to do is:

->format the target device (a 4G compact flash).
->mount the formatted device.
->untar my debian.tar.gz in that device.
After rebooting, the system never boots.
Using a live CD and invoking "fdisk -lu" :

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Ffmpeg / Mtv Format - Error "Unable To Find A Suitable Output Format For Output.mtv"

Jan 22, 2011

I'm still trying to find out if my coby mp3 player will actually play mtv video files as is advertised.

ffmpeg -formats does list mtv but the only command I really ever used was one to convert a vid to an mp3 so I tried Code: ffmpeg -i test.mp4 -acodec copy output.mtv it returns Code: Unable to find a suitable output format for 'output.mtv' I can't find any mtv files online for purchase or free for that matter, so I know this is all pretty obscure but shouldn't there be a way to convert them since ffmpeg lists mtv format?

Fedora Hardware :: Full Speed USB MSC Device Detected As Input Device?

Apr 7, 2011

I am working on an embedded system, which is an USB MSC device that supports some vendor specific scsi commands. I am using FC10 laptop as USB host for testing, and it runs some small apps based on sg3. All has been well for ~ a week. The FC10 laptop is able to communicate with the device and retrieve data. Suddenly, starting from today, the laptop is not able to properly detect the device. When plugged-in, the MSC device is detected as input device (I thought). This is observed from "dmesg" output and changes in "/dev/input/".The device under development is running at full speed. When I connect to winXP, no problem. A windows file explorer pops up, showing the content of the drive.Also, the FC10 has no problem with other USB flash drive (high speed).

I just compiled my first own kernel (I'm using Arch Linux), following the tutorial on the german site. I simply copy&pasted the Arch-entry, i.e. I also had the disk by uuid there. The failure message was the same, just the root device name was the different name Also, at first I did not have the initrd line in my menu.lst (as written in my tutorial that I may not need it). In this case I had this error message:
