Fedora :: Having Es_ES Language And 12 Hours Format On Clock?
May 23, 2011I noticed that the language es_ES (Spanish Spain), has a problem, you can't put the clock in 12 hours format, I was googling for a while and found that it should edit the file

But I did it and still don't show me the option to change the clock to 12 hour format, I tried changing the es_NI language (Spanish Nicaragua) and gives me the option of 12 hours, but the languages of programs like firefox, thunderbird, openoffice change to English.What can i do to have language es_ES and 12 hours format on my clock? or es_NI language with firefox, thunderbird etc. in spanish?

Jun 6, 2011I've recently moved from Ubuntu (after moving from Gentoo and Arch) to Fedora 15 and am experiencing some crashing.
What happens is after a few hours or not particularly hard usage (web browser, a couple of terminals, maybe having run a few Ant scripts etc) all the fans seem to go into serious overdrive. I can't move the mouse and the system doesn't respond to any keyboard input. After about five minutes of this, the fans slow down but the system remains unresponsive. I've left it for a further 30 minutes, still nothing so I have to do a hard reset.
My hardware is a stock laptop Compal IFL90. Besides the standard installed software, the only other things I've installed are;
- Sun JDK (and Eclipse, but not running during crash)
- Pogo Plug software (pogoplugfs which is started on login)
- Cryptkeeper for my encfs stuff
- Opera
Can anyone point me to a possible fix, or let me know what other information is needed to try and get more complete support? It's not to much of a problem at the moment, but when I start using my laptop more frequently, having to power cycle every few hours is going to make is to difficult to use.

Fedora :: Time Keeps On Changing 7 Hours
Sep 18, 2010I have an Asus laptop with both Win7 and Fedora. Whenever I change the time in Fedora to the correct time and reboot into W7 the W7 time is messed up - about 7 hours earlier. If I set W7's time to the correct time and then reboot to Fedora, Fedora's time is then 7 hours early. For some reason I can't get both OS's to agree it's the same time.

Jun 16, 2010I am going through cygwin's XWin.exe (XWin - queary <hostname>) to start a remote session with a RHEL 5.5 workstation. I have run gdmsetup on the worksation to allow the remote connection. Starting the remote session goes off without a problem. After about two hours, it just exits and I have to start over. This is a problem since all my gui's are killed and I have some important processes running.

Fedora :: In Dual Boot, Clock Is Diff. By 4 Hours In Windows?
Jul 24, 2009I have Fedora in dual boot with windows on a laptop. I have a weird clock problem. If I get the clock set correctly in Fedora, then it's 4 hours too fast in Windows. When I fix it in Windows and then restart into Fedora, it's 4 hours too slow in Fedora!Why are they competing with each other and how do I get them to both be correct?

Nov 18, 2010I am using Gstreamer for creating one of my video streaming application. My application creates multimedia session and then stream around 200 video sessions (a very processor intensive job).In doing so, the no. of threads created is around 1500 and I have given around 1536 KB as my stack size for each of these threads. I have one Quadcore(intel Xeon) system of around 8 GB of RAM(64 bit) with RHEL 5.5(kernel - 2.6.18-92.el5). After few hours of testing I see that my overall memory(RAM) is eating up. I did checked the memory and I saw that my cache size is growing. So far so good, as I can understand that system does cache instead of leaving some RAM free.
My problem comes, when I see that after almost 20-25 hours of testing, RAM is continuously being eaten up and maximum part of that is going into cache. If I leave the system for few more hours I see whole of my memory is consumed up and now my swap started getting used. If I check the cache now, I clearly see most of RAM is now in form of cache. I still didn�t stop my application and allowed it run for few more hours and after sometime I see that process give segmentation fault while creating the pthread (create_pthread::unknown error 513).I also tried to observe the �core� file of application created in this way , but it doesn�t� show anything.
One thing I must mention that, in �top� I see almost constant values of resident memory, virtual memory and shared memory. There is no increase of memory usage here. So here I can assume that my application is not leaking the memory. I also observed that if I kill my application any time during this, the memory doesn�t go into free pool. Anyone, here can give any pointer for this kind of behavior. Is it can be because of some kernel BUG which is not freeing the memory to application usage.

May 25, 2011I have a computer home that I use a web server and I had Lenny in it for about a year and didn't experience any problems. Recently I needed to update to Squeeze just to be able and use part of my server for a game(which I couldn't compile on Lenny). I renamed every "lenny" word in the /etc/apt/sources.list with "squeeze" and ran dist-upgrade. Everything seemed fine(minor some "link not found" warnings). I also had some minor problems with the mysql configuration after the update but I managed to fix them all. Then I noticed that after some hours(not sure how many) I can suddenly not reach my computer via ssh. Neither can I visit my website(even from the local network). The computer doesn't appear either in the router's "attached devices" list. My other computers have no problems so it can't be a router issue.Pinging from the server to the outside world doesn't work. I tryied "sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart" and that didn't do anything. The only way to fix the problem is by rebooting but then again after some hours the problem is still there. Do you guys have any idea what the problem can be?

One went well, but this other one - the oldest - that has been on Ubuntu for years, is having trouble. The upgrade dialog is predicting another 12 hours and it's been at least 12 hours already. The log is moving swiftly and shows no sign of trouble.

Feb 13, 2011I've seen a problem staying connected to a Cisco VPN, this goes back a number of years.I was running 8.10 and it was fine.After I moved to 9.10, the problem started happening.My VPN connection to work would drop after 8 hours.I looked around for a while and ended up compiling the cisco provided client which works fine (but is a pain).I've been running 9.10 on my work laptop, and it experiences the same problem using vpnc, but I've been dealing with it because it's easier than using the Cisco client.
I installed 10.04 on my work desktop, my home desktop, and a personal laptop that was previously running 8.10, and all experience the same problem with vpnc.I even go so far as to keep one terminal open with a constant ping all day and it still drops after about 8 hours. A couple of others at work experience the same problem using vpnc. This is not a problem using the Cisco provided client, or running it on windows or os/x.Has anybody else seen this, or have any ideas on what I can start looking for to get this addressed?
Ubuntu :: Computer Freezes After Several Hours?
May 29, 2011I've a new Dell Precision T1500, Core i5, 8gb RAM, nvidia graphics card, that seems to freeze after some hours. I'm not sure how long exactly, more than two hours at least.
OS: Ubuntu 11.04
Cause: leave computer turned on, unattended for some time >2hrs.
Symptom: Screens are blank, no response to keyboard or mouse input, reboot is only way to rectify.
Things I've tried:Turn off screen saver
Disable "Sync to VBlank"
Disable screen power management, screen stays "on" always
So far none of these have corrected the issue. The screens are still on, but there is nothing displayed. Same thing did happen with Ubuntu 10.10, I'd hoped maybe 11.04 would fix it, alas, no.
General :: Incorrect Time - Looks Like It's Exactly 4 Hours Behind ?
Jul 24, 2011A few hours ago, I ran "pacman -Syu" to update, and soon after it was finished the power went out for a few seconds, turning off my computer without properly shutting down. When I started it, the time was wrong (or maybe the time zone, since the minute is correct). It looks like it's exactly 4 hours behind (right now it's 18:53 here, but the date command says 14:53). Also, I have ntpd running, in case that matters.

May 3, 2011I have slackware 13.37-64 bit with nvidia gforce 210. Since i did the installation and use the default graphic card driver (nouveau) i see that after some hours of using it suddenly freezes. I can't do anything, even use alt_ctl_backspace or alt_ctl_del for reboot, so i use the button of the pc to reboot. The only thing that i have noticed is that it happens that every time it freezes i am using firefox. But i don't know if it has every relation with this. Since i'm not very experienced user and can't understand the log files i have put here the pieces of /var/log/syslog and /var/log/messages related to the time that the freeze happens:

Ubuntu :: Log Files - Will Not Run More Than 24 Hours Without Locking Up ?
Sep 14, 2010I have a new PC with 9.10 desktop . It's running Zoneminder. For some reason it will not run more than 24 hours with out locking up . It's set up stand alone with no screen or keyboard. I hacked the vga port with 3 resistors so remote desktop works. I did this on 2 other systems and it always works fine. I want to ask where can I look in the logs to try and find out why this beast dies after just before 24 hours of run time.

Apr 11, 2009I have the bar at the top configured to display the time but it is displaying 12 hours out.For example, it's now 16:49 but the time is displaying as 06:49. If I click on Adjust Date & Time it has the correct time in there and it is configured to display 24-hour format and is in the correct time zone. If I switch to 12-hour format it displays 6:49 AM which is clearly incorrect.I can't fix it because it thinks the time is correct when I try to change it.

Nov 21, 2009I have a 500GB Hitachi external hard drive that I use for backup. It's about 17 months old and has barely been used. Two partitions reside on it: a 446.2GB ext4 partition I use for backup and an LVM partition that contains an NTFS partition and another ext4 partition.
I started it and connected it to my laptop today (after not using for 4 months). A libnotify message warned that "drive failure [was] expected in less than 24 hours." Palimpset shows "Reallocated Sector Count" with status "FAILING" and value "343 sectors" and "Current Pending Sector Count" with value "1556" and status "FAILING". At first I figured it was just the self-check being programmed for NTFS only (not unheard of). But then I saw that Palimpset has the Linux partition labelled as "unrecognized". The temperature is normal (about 20�C). What's going on here?I have not mounted the drive yet and the data is largely unimportant, so I'm more concerned about the hardware (even though hardware damage seems the unlikely possibility). To prevent or minimize hardware damage, what would my best course of action be?

Sep 21, 2010I would like to have a way to keep track of my working hours easily.
Insert arrival and finish times and have the difference in decimal. For example, if I start at 8:00 and finish at 9:30, 1.5 should be added.
I tried to do this with Calc but couldn't figure it out. I set one column to have entrance time, another one to have exit time and a third one with the difference("=B2-C2"). The result is in a timestamp format and not decimal. If I use another cell to say something like HOURS(D2) it rounds the number rather than give a decimal(would give 9 for 9:20:00).
EDIT: solved by doing =24*(B2-C2)
