Hi,
today I've compiled and installed gtk+-2.24.4 (needed by the new GIMP), and shortly after GTK apps look like crap. The theme list is empty except for "Raleigh", which I presume is default.
What can be the cause and what config files should I look into to fix it?
Running openSUSE 11.4 with LXDE / openbox.

I'm trying to install new themes on ubuntu but it tells me that GTK + themes 'ubuntulooks'is not installed and won't load up the themes as it should. I went to package manager and installed it but still doesn't work. Themes to be installed, either overglossed or sickness-black. environment ubuntu 10.04.
View 1 Replies View RelatedSince installing 11.3 I've noticed that with certain Workspace themes the plasmmoids and panel have options missing: The theme in the screenshot is "Elegance" others have the same problem; "Oxyglass", "Heron" & "Aya". The panel has the resizing sliders missing. These were working ok in 11.2.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen you go to System/Preferences/Appearance/ and the Appearance Preferences window displays the graphical representations of the themes, on most of them the gnome image-missing.png is displayed where the window menu icon (far-left on the titlebar) should be displayed. I never had this happen with Intrepid, but I do have this situation now on Jaunty. It's not just with new or added themes, it's the system's default installed themes as well. If you search around the net you'll see that this is a pretty common problem. Is a .png getting deleted, or is it something else in the process that is 'broken'?
Many of my apps display their proper menu window icons (like nautilus, ff3, etc.) - but others do not. I assume the ones that don't are trying to use a system or default icon rather than their own and that it is missing?Here are two screenshots I grabbed off of google to show you the difference.Missing...Not missing.
I have just reinstalled 10.10. I used the alternate version since I had to add a fake raid Windows install. Ubuntu is on a OCZ SSD (very nice )
Install went fine. Update went fine (a bit over 300MB of updates) and everything looked as it should.
Then I installed the restricted Nvidia drivers for my GTX275 card and then gnome suddenly looks like the attached screenshot. I have tried to change theme and the colour of the top bar changes but that is that. No icon changes etc.
I have updated to the latest 270.18 drivers but the problem is still the same.
On my laptop, I have stable installed. The original install was about two years ago, and I've just been keeping up with all of the stable updates. It is now an up to date Lenny. Over the months and years I have added several new icon themes to Gnome. I have noticed over time that several of the icon themes' icons have turned up missing. As you can see, icon themes Amaranth, Crux and Dropline Etiquette are missing their respective theme icons. The icon themes work, when selected, but the icon theme icon in the "Customize Theme" window never appears. Several of the other icon themes are the same. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the icon theme packs, but that doesn't fix it. I also have a desktop system of Debian stable with some of the same icon themes as on the laptop, but it does not have this problem. However, it is a much newer installation.
I just did install the updates as they showed up with the Update manager, and now the themes are "broken." On startup, all windows are themed with the Redmond theme. When I open the Appearance dialog, some windows' theme come back. But nautilus still uses the Redmond theme (I'm not running it as root either). The icon theme is totally not taking effect. It's using the ugly gray icons regardless of what I have chosen. This all happened right after the latest update on Karmic, and after I've reinstalled my NVidia driver which breaks after every kernel update. I think it was a kernel update because the number of lines at the grub menu seemed to have increased.

Since of late "Appearance preference" behaves awkwardly . Normaly It is supposed to show themes in /usr/share/themes right? but now it shows themes only in ~/.themes folder. I don't know what affected the change. how do I configure it as to show themes in /usr/share/themes/,?
Also whatever theme I use , Controls would stay same(Classic controls). They wouldn't be update to those of the Theme used.
I use Opensuse,I want change KDM Themes,but Themes Tab is disable and show me go to General Tab,General Tab is Disable.

I toyed with my desktop panels, and now I don't see my update notifications, although I can see every thing else. I have the notification area and indicator applt session on my panel but still can't see the update notification, when running "ps -A| grep update-notifier" I find it running.... what am I missing...

I updated my fedora 12 installation the other day, and have been working since then to try to get my computer back to working order. Here's what's up:
I ran a yum update and restarted the computer. When it booted back up I couldn't see anything but a black screen where there should've been a login screen. I can do terminal stuff if I hit ctrl+F2, so keep that in mind. I've determined that the problem is that kmod-nvidia-2.6.32.10-90.fc12.x86_64-195.36.15-1.fc12.1.x86_64 didn't get installed during the update process for some reason. I tried to yum install this file through my terminal access, but it didn't recognize any internet connection (neither wired nor wireless). I've downloaded the kmod-nvidia file to my Windows XP partition, and have also put it on my flash drive. So I need to know one of three things: How to access a Windows partition from terminal, how to access a flash drive from terminal, or how to connect to the internet from terminal so I can get the kmod file.
When I install the most recent Linux Kernel: kernel-2.6.34.6-54.fc13 (i686) The installation process removes: Linux Kernel: kernel-2.6.33.6-147.2.4.fc13 (i686) Plus NVIDIA: kmod-nvidia-2.6.33.6-147.2.4.fc13.i686-1:195.36.31-1.fc13.2 (i686)
This results in Nvidia.ko not being found during the subsequent restart - the remove activity deletes it from the system. Prior to this activity Nvidia.ko is found in: /lib/modules/2.6.33.6-147.2.4.fc13.i696/extra/nvidia. Without Nvidia.ko the display is set to 800x600 resolution. This is the first time I have encountered this problem with a Fedora Linux Kernel update. Will this problem be fixed in a subsequent update, if so when? If not fixed, where do we find the proper Nvidia.ko module? Also, how do you recommend we install it?
I cannot update perl due to a missing dependency.
Installed perl:

downgrade also does not work. I just updated F12 to F13 using DVD and this occured. Also prevents me from doing "full" yum system update, these packages always fail. I do not understand the problem, it says that perl-libs 5.10.1-112 requires perl-libs 5.10.1-112, but I have that installed.
Yesterday I ran updates that moved me from kernel Fedora (2.6.34.7-61.fc13.i686.PAE) to Fedora (2.6.34.7-63.fc13.i686.PAE). After reboot my system hangs trying to start X. I can use altF2 and log in that way but when I try to start X it fails - no screen found. I backed off to my previous kernel and used the package manager to remove the updated kernel and noticed that when it uninstalled it did not take any kmod packages with it. I assume not having an associated kmod may have been the problem? If so, how do I find the correct one to install?

I'm using fedora 15 64-bit. Today i was prompted to install some updates, most of them are related to mesa driver updates. Once installed those, I rebooted the system. After login again, i couldn't find any of my files or folders. The hidden files & folders are remain there but rest all were gone. Now my account looks like newly created one. All of my important documents are missing.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have just updated my 7.10 release to the final release patches/kernel for it (as a step in the process of upgrading the installation to 10.10) when I have come across a very disheartening problem.
Prior to this update, I was running VMWare Server 2.0 with its normaal admin console at localhost:8333 and an applet install under Applications -> System Tools -> VMWare Administration Console. Now that I have updated, both these are missing or inoperable.
However, the VMs hosted by the machine are still perfectly functional. I can login to the via Remote Desktop or VNC as the case may be.
I can also no longer see the /var/lib/vmware/Virtual Machines folder or any VMWare folder at all, even when using the full root login and permissions. Find and Search also show a disturbing lack of the 64Gb of VMDK files that are the running VMs.
Any clues as to how I can track down this invisible, but functional install? I do not want to proceed with another update until I get a solid backup of the VMDKs.
Well, here are a list of the symptoms.

Additional info: Last update in log is from march 11. But has nothing to do with yum, ssl or python.
When trying to update, there comes a problem with a missing key. I'm figuring you need to update that key to download from the repositories. I'm a little stumped on how to get the key or renew it.

My girlfriend has just dusted off her Aspire One netbook with Linpus on it. I've tried to update packages and such (eventually got the password changed and such) now I can't update the packages or enable GNOME.
