Ubuntu :: Update DivX Web Player?
Feb 21, 2011I opened Firefox Add-ons and looked at the Plug-ins. Firefox says the DivX Web Player is in need of a security update. How do I update this? I clicked the button but nothing happens.

View 9 Replies View Relatedwhen pdf files didn't load into firefox (problem still not solved), i tried to remove mozplugger, of which there were two instances in plug-ins. i first though flash-plugin was the culprit, so i removed it. but it wasn't. so i removed nsdiswrapper and then, i could remove both mozploggers (same version) i*still had icedtea, and itunes application detector, which i*found no way to remove since there is no file name associated with it in add-ons, plug-ins (rather weird, if you ask me).
so i reinstalled mosplogger, flash-plugin 32 bit and nsdiswrapper (i*don't remember in which order) and now not only pdf files don't load in firefox, or any viewer, but i can't watch flash even at videos, which is rather reliable flash-wise. i receive this error message:
you need to upgrade your adobe flash player to watch this video.
i*still have 2 mozplugger instances.
what's my next step? i*checked google for this error message and found nothing relevant.
p.s.: flash-plugin is, of course, the latest release:
flash-plugin-10.1.102.65-release.i386

I boought some cartoons for my granddaughter on DVD. I want to put them on my LG PVR HDD/USB which plays Divx (.avi) Purely for storage and ease of access.
I've tried DVD::rip which creates a VOB file and I've tried converting this with Avidemux (qt) but the file it creates, although avi doesn't play - wrong codec? It doesn't recognise the vOB file.
I tried ripping it with Acidrip with the various codecs available, it created avi files but none would play, again PVR reports Wrong codec?
Am I missing something? Any other open source apps that will do it?

View 9 Replies View RelatedA recent (last couple of days) update to Fedora12 involving libunicap seems to have completely trashed VLC video player -- as in causing it to be completely uninstalled. No biggie, I thought; when I went to reinstall it, I saw that VLC 1.0.5-1 fc12 was available. Tried to install it, and KPackageKit calmly proceeded to throw up, telling me:

Wonderful. Now I don't have a video player that natively does mpg/avi; Dragon Player pretends to play them, but there's no video; same with Xine. BTW, I tried to report this via Bugzilla at Redhat, but couldn't find anything that resembled a way to report an actual bug/problem (what app doesn't work, how it doesn't work, any error messages).
i recently installed vlc media player 0.8.6 in yellow dog linux 6.2 on my ps3 by following this procedure..[url]... i then used the firefox add-on mediaplayerconnectivity (0.9.2) to link video files for quick time, real video, flash (flv)etc... to vlc as the default player for these video formats. (note: i had to manually add vlc as the flv default player, b/c mediaplayerconnectivity did not automatically do this.)
now...on videos when i double-click on the little movie film icon to play the streaming file through vcl the player opens, but neither the video or audio play even though i have vlc setup as the default player. i have tried playing some quick time (mov) and windows media video (wmv) streaming video and they work fine. i noticed that there's a new update (0.9.5) for vlc. do i need that update to make sure videos (flv files) video will play? if so, how do i install the 0.9.5 update after downloading it in yellow dog linux 6.2?

All my downloaded divxs, using WIndows, can be plaid on my home cinema (with divx-player). But when i download a movie, using Ubuntu, even it is a divx, it will not play on my home cinema.
I think it's not the fault of my divx-player, but maybe it has something to do with Ubuntu?
hate it using windows for downloading some movies.
My home theatre is from Samsung, but that has nothing to do with it, I think.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI can't seem to get DivX streams to buffer long enough to watch them. I have installed DivX plugins and tried to use VLC, neither which, allow me to pause the video and allow the buffer to load. On Winblows and Mac, There was a different player that handled DivX streams that allowed for large buffering. I checked the /tmp folder while attempting to watch and the stream is not there. Is there another folder I should see the stream in? Is there a bug with the software, or can you only buffer DivX streams as long as they are running? I have a slow DSL connection and have no other way, other than torrents, to watch movies. And I would much rather wait a few minutes to watch the entire movie, than wait a few hours for the torrent to finish downloading.
