Ubuntu :: Downloading (Flash Player) Update / Upgrade On Command Line
Mar 12, 2011
how do you download an update or an upgrade (or whatever it's called) on a command line. for chromium internet browser. opened the computer and couldn't watch videos. i tried all the downloads available on adobe's website and all of them are on my "downloads" folder and when i click on any i just get stuff i don't understand and i simply find it easier to download through terminal.
I have just downloaded Firefox 3.6.13 onto an acer aspire one which has limpus lite. On completion it told me to upgrade my flash player. Went to Adobe and I clicked on the drop down menu and selected .tar.gz (I have no idea what this means at all but it was the same ending as the stuff for firefox). So I've now got the flash player 10 thing in my 'downloads' but I don't know what to do next through the 'run programme window'.
Does anyone know the correct procedure for upgrading Adobe Flash Player. I just installed Linux Mint Debian and noticed that my flash plugin is the old Shockwave Flash.
I've tried downloading the latest Flash Player from adobe. I unzipped it, and moved libflashplayer.so to where I thought the plugin directory was.
My main problem is that I don't know where to look for the plugin file. I tried /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins but as much as I played with the 'libflashplayer.so' file there, I could neither remove the plugin nor upgrade it. I've also tried the /usr/lib/flashplugin-nonfree directory but once again, I was unable to affect the plugin.
I want to upgrade flash player (from 9 to 10) and need how-to in plain english. I have an asus eee-pc 4g/surf and several pages of notes and instructions but no matter what I do I can't seem to make it work.
jus picked up one of these cnmbook "7"netbook's for next to nothing (no manuals, charger lol) ive not used linux before but have managed to sort out the wifi etc but am not to sure how to upgrade the flash player .. the .tar downloads have a ? mark on them im trying to upgrade it due to some web pages not being able to display properly..ive always used windows due to using music making programmes but would like to find out about linux and what it can do ...and thought i could learn by using this cnmbook?
when pdf files didn't load into firefox (problem still not solved), i tried to remove mozplugger, of which there were two instances in plug-ins. i first though flash-plugin was the culprit, so i removed it. but it wasn't. so i removed nsdiswrapper and then, i could remove both mozploggers (same version) i*still had icedtea, and itunes application detector, which i*found no way to remove since there is no file name associated with it in add-ons, plug-ins (rather weird, if you ask me).
so i reinstalled mosplogger, flash-plugin 32 bit and nsdiswrapper (i*don't remember in which order) and now not only pdf files don't load in firefox, or any viewer, but i can't watch flash even at videos, which is rather reliable flash-wise. i receive this error message:
you need to upgrade your adobe flash player to watch this video.
i*still have 2 mozplugger instances.
what's my next step? i*checked google for this error message and found nothing relevant.
p.s.: flash-plugin is, of course, the latest release:
I just installed Adobe Flash Player 10 and it says it's installed, when I go to firefox and Epiphany it still has flash player 9, Ive quited the browsers and everything Ive uninstalled/reinstalled still no luck.
I have Debian Lenny 2.6.26-2-amd64 on an ASUS G50Vt laptop. I am using Iceweasel v3.0.6. I tried upgrading my flash player using the steps listed on [URL].. but the install fails after I try to install install_flash_player_9_linux.tar.gz. I receive this error: MD5 checkum mismatch failed: --install
I am using OpenSuse 10.3 and want to upgrade to Flash 10. I already have libflashplayer.so installed.
I did a ldd here is my terminal screen: Terminal screen: sam@linux-kzhj:~> ldd /usr/lib64/browser-plugins/libflashplayer.so libssl3.so => not found libsmime3.so => not found libnss3.so => not found libplds4.so => not found libplc4.so => not found libnspr4.so => not found sam@linux-kzhj:~>
I tried to find these with no luck. Is there any program I can download and just extract these from? My Yast is a trainwreck. All servers have been shutdown. Just am now learning some terminal commands. I am trying to patch up 10.3 so when 11.4 comes out I will build a new PC.
Anyone know any good command line music player, that can play mp3's and wav files? Also, anyone know any good command line msn messenger? I want those two softwares for Slackware 13.0. Lately I've been going crazy about command line softwares. I intend to really abuse of the command line environment. I find it so usefull.
Version: #1 SMP Tue Aug 18 15:51:54 EDT 2009Release: 2.6.18-164.el5While running "yum update"After Transaction summary shows download size. I answer the question:"Is this ok [y/N]: y" and process freezes on next line?I have tried yum clean all and retried same result? I have allowed it to continue for several , many, minutes but must CTRL Z to stop process then kill remaining yum processes.I have also deleted and rebuilt the rpm database
Today I installed an upgrade through update manager of the Adobe Flash Player Plugin and it breaks the flash in all three of my browsers: Firefox, Opera and Chromium. Had to revert to previous version to get it to work. Ubuntu Version 10.10 i386 Sony Viao Laptop.
I've found the following irritating problem with the default update applet in 11.4 (the one available in 'Software Management' in the KDE system settings):
Applet prompts to update the system, click Apply updates Accept licence agreement for flash player update
The applet goes back to listing the available updates - ie. it doesn't run the update The workaround is to untick the flash player update, run the other updates and then do the flash player update by itself.
I am trying to update Flash-player and yast2-core as prompted by today's update icon.
I am now faced with a loop that goes like this: 1) click on icon 2) window pops up, "2 packages selected" 3) click on apply, subwindow pops up 4) click on continue, "waiting for authentication" 5) after minutes of waiting, click on cancel, nothing happens 6) click on icon killing subwindow 7) now back to 2)
Aborting the process, starting at 1) again, same mess
I have a 32GB flash drive that I want to:- Have an installation o with no X-terminal. Only command-line.- Be bootable by plugging into any computer and turning that computer on.My wishes are strictly for writing purposes. I want to write in a minimal environment where there's no distraction by other programs or Internet. I don't care what programs exist on the linux distro as long as it has a text-editor.Please tell me how to proceed. What linux distro I should get. How to install it on a USB stick. Anything I need to know.
Does the $ sudo apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree command always downloads the latest flash player plugin?Does it install for all currently installed browsers? Because it seems like it does.
Has anyone used rtmpdump or flvstreamer? They compile well (there is also a package on Packman for rtmpdump, but not for the latest version) and have man pages listing a bunch of command line arguments, but I have not yet figured out how to use them in connection with browser and flash plugin.
I have been running Ubuntu 9.10 for a while now. Today, I ran updates on my computer and also requested the upgrade to 10.04. Unfortunately, a few hours into it my computer hung. I had no choice but to reboot. When I did so the computer started a 10.04 screen and then went to a 'command line' for me to login. I am able to login, however, all i have is the 'command line'. What can i do now? Can I restart the upgrade from the 'command line'?
if it's possible (or how to) upgrade the kernel using apt-get? ...particularly from 2.6.35.4 to 2.6.38-8.I'm using an upgraded Ubuntu 11.04 installation
I clicked on the upgrade to LTS 10.04 option on my Asus 901 EEE PC and after completion it will only boot straight to command line...I would like to get back to the UNR Gui.
I had problems with python stuff and so update manager did not work. Also many other problems, PiTiVi was installed but did not start eg... After many trials of this and that I removed python-gtk2 and so also ubuntu desktop. But was unable to get it back. Now I cannot even shut down. While it is not possible to install desktop or anything else, would it be possible to fix this by upgrading the whole system to 10.04 (10.10?)? Would it fix python installation. How could I do it. Some info tells to change sources.list and run apt-get upgrade, but some tell not to do so.

Keep getting alert notification box, with close button. But get no response from keyboard or mouse. So I can't get past it. It seems that you do not have the hardware required to run Unity. Please choose Ubuntu Classic at the login screen and you will be using the traditional environment. (Late model Dell, probably less than 2 years old.) But since I can't use the mouse to activate the close button, or use the keyboard (alt + x, or enter), I can't get past that point. Is there some control sequence I can use during boot startup and get to single user mode and modify something?
I upgraded Opera to version 11.00, and also upgraded on my computer Adobe Flash to version 10.1.102.64 (or 65 if I recall). The Flash update reflects properly in Firefox and Google Chrome, but unfortunately it does not show up properly in Opera. It shows that Opera has 10.0.45.2 as the flash version. Why is this not updating with the Opera and Flash updates?
how to upgrade and update both Flash and Java on Ubuntu 11.04 I use both Mozilla Firefox and Chromium and not sure if I need to download flash and Java for each program or not.
I made a live USB memory stick / pendrive with Ubuntu netbook remix 10.04 using my desktop computer. I want to install / update my netbook that has no network function yet. I booted the desktop with the pendrive & ran update manager. I want to update the kernel so I will have the driver that will operate my netbook ethernet.Acer AOD260 has Ethernet Controller: AR8151 v1.1 Fast Ethernet, Atheros Communications & Network Controller: Broadcom 4727 (rev 01)and will not work from the current release of 10.04 (too new) but there are supposed to be drivers in the newer kernels.
Running Update Manager I get a box labeled "Debconf on ubuntu" & says "Configuring grub-pc". There is an entry box that says "linux command line:" & is empty. When I press the help button I get the message "The following Linux command line was extracted from /etc/default/grub of the 'kopt' parameter in GRUB Legacy's menu.lst. Please verify that is correct, and modify it if necessary. The installer is hanging, Preconfiguring packages ..., probably waiting for a response, but I have no idea what to do.
On Ubuntu Desktop editions, there is a GUI application which allows easily changing to a different server. It can even find out how one is the fastest update server. Is there a corresponding command line tool available to do this? Because I'm using the Server edition without GUI. I hate to manually edit /etc/apt/source.list.
