Ubuntu :: Unable To Run Stepmania/install Drivers ?

I installed Xubuntu a couple of days ago on my pc (Which means im really new to linux), i got xubuntu and windows XP on 1 desktop now. After the install and all updates were done i downloaded the binary version of Stepmania (Stepmania is a DDR like game available for mac, windows and linux). Link to the download: [url]
After i extracted the game i tried to run it, which failed. Nothing happened. The file was set as an executable but it still did not start. After a while it did start, no idea what i did though.
When i start stepmania now, you see the stepmania logo in the middle of the screen (which is normal) and then i get a black screen and after like 3 seconds the game brings me back to linux again. Only thing i get is a logfile with this information:

So i am currently not able to run stepmania (uses 3d stuff) and the standard chess game on ubuntu in 3d mode, so i thought it might be something with my drivers? When i go to applications - system - hardware drivers, it says there are no drivers installed (except for a broadcom wireless driver, which i don't need because im not on wireless internet)
So i tried to download the video card driver from intel. My graphics card is:
So i downloaded the driver, extracted it and tried to run the install.sh. I was able to start the installation with the linux console screen, but after it started to install the driver i got an error:
When I go to System>Administration>Hardware Drivers a new window pops up (no proprietary drivers are in use for this system). I click on version 177 and activate, but all that happens is a smaller window comes up (downloading and installing driver) although it never goes over 0% and then quickly disappears without any "changes applied" message.
I just upgraded to 11.4 from 11.3 and cannot seem to get the FGLRX modules to load. Every I try to load the module, I get the following error: fglrx: no symbol version for module_layoutI read through this howto with no avail: SDB:ATI drivers - openSUSE else run into this problem with upgrading?
I am not able to install wifi drivers in RHEL 5.4. OS has installed drivers of Bluetooth But It does not install driver of wifi. I have recently installed the linux.
I have been using ubuntu for quite a long time, and for the first time, I am now unable to set nvidia drivers to work. I have just install ubuntu 9.10 amd64 on an AMD 64 athlong X2 with a GEForce 6500 nvidia card.
The only reason I need the proprietary drivers is to use two monitors.
I am going crazy, I have tested everything I have found on the web. I have tried all the nvidia drivers version, I have tried envyng, ... but nvidia do not work!!
I am trying Xinerama with nv, but it does not work either!!!
Here is my xorg.conf file in which I have tried to use nv driver to set dual monitor. X fails to load and it says that screen 0 is deleted, that devices are found but there are no matches in the config file. Any clue?
When I download the drivers for my Broadcom card (BCM-4312), I get this error message:

installing the PCI wireless card drivers in CentOS linux. I have "Sabrent PCI-G802 PCI Wireless Card - 54Mbps, 802.11g". I tried looking in google and tried multiple ways to install the driver but failed , I have followed the instructions given in the link i.e. performed the following steps .....

I have just installed Kubuntu 9.10 in my laptop and it did not ditected my Nvidia 8400 M GS graphics Card I downloaded a driver file NVIDIA-Linux.x86-19042-pkg1.run to install drivers but when i run it it shows the error error:you appear to be running X server, please exit X before installing.
I have dell inspiron-1545 laptop.I installed rhel5(downloaded from torrent for free),kernel (2.6.18-8el5xen).i got a driver cd from dell containing rhel drivers for audio,video,network.i tried to install those drivers but could not.it asked for dkms 2.0 which i installed.but even now also some errors are coming(like dependencies missing etc.).so no internet ,no sound,no video on my laptop.

after few years being limited with my pc configuration (windows OS) I realized that linux or it's distributions is the best invention in 21 century. And finally I am starting use it. openSUSE 11.4 installaition succesful, I updated it and it looks I don;t have any problems, but I got few questions.
1. How install older version of mozilla firefox internet browser here? I can't install some plugins because it's a firefox beta 12 version, for example. I am quake fan, o I like play quake live, but i can't install quake plugin, because my firefox is beta version.
2. Does I got all drivers instantly installed to my mashine? ATI video drivers, sound drivers ect??
3. Are there any How-To guides which can teach me, how I can improve my desktop? gadgets, 3D desktop ect...?
I have a new dell inspiron 1545 since i am facing problems with vista i wanted to work with linux operating system (fedora 9). I want to install the video drivers and sound drivers for my laptop..When i installed fedora 9 my screen resolution was 1366x768 but suddenly now my resolution is 1024x768. So I have been trying to install these drivers forever and after going through a million forum posts and Google searches I have been unsuccessful. The process I have been trying starts as such: I hit ctrl-alt-f1 and then login as root. i then change to run level 3 by doing /sbin/init 3. Since 2 weeks now i decide to roll back to my favorite Ubuntu OS.Of course i kept the windows for my creative suite of Adobe that i am working on.So, i downloaded and installed Ubuntu 10.04 LTS and everything went ok.(Even the dual boot with grub).Then i tried to install latest nVidia drivers and after reboot the max.res. i have is 640X480X60Hz. My composition is Intel P4 2.8 --- Gigabyte PE8100 --- GeForce 5700 FX The monitor is Philips CW220 22". I tried many of the guides of Ubuntu forums and some of them made my system unfunctional and some other had no result.
I have a CanonMP280 printer and Ubuntu 10.10. Mp280 is not recognized by Ubuntu 10.10. Through 'cybertechhelp' I was very lucky to get the printing drivers to install. So the printer works.
No-one seems to be able to find the 'scanner' drivers and Canon_help is useless. So I must dual-boot with Windows to be able to scan.
Although win7 is a vast improvement on vista. I would much prefer to single-boot with Ubuntu. I tried other Ubuntu and Ubuntu-Based distros, but, the printer-drivers I have, only work in Ubuntu 08.04 - 10.10
I just installed Ubuntu 9.10, and it seems I'm unable to get the drivers for my graphics card. I know they exist, as I've downloaded them before (I switched back to Windows for a short period. Bad idea there. :/), and I know they work fine, but when I go to "System > Administration > Hardware Drivers" (where I've always gotten them from), they aren't there.
The only difference between this install and my old one, is that I used a USB drive to install, instead of a disk (I had run out).
Although I did have to change to boot order in the BIOS to get it to boot into the drive, I don't think that's the issue.
Just installed Ubuntu Netbook Remix 10.04 on my Acer ao532h netbook.I did a clean install, but I had been running UNR 9.10 for some time without a hitch. The new version fixed a slight bug that had made it necessary to tinker with the wifi adapter in the old version, and also seems to boot faster as advertised. However, there is one slight problem with the new version: when I attempt to engage visual effects in the appearance control panel (something which worked in the old version), the options are grayed out, as if the video driver is not installed. When I go to the hardware drivers panel, it doesn't detect any drivers to install. As far as I can remember, I didn't have to install any drivers for the GMA 3150 graphics card in the old version of UNR.
I have just completed a clean install of 10.04 and my wireless is not working.It detected my hardware and installed the drivers. It is activated in the hardware Drivers section and the wireless button light is lit.When I click the connection icon in the panel the wireless has nothing to connect too and says disconnected. The Ethernet connection is working fine.BTW the wireless worked just fine in 9.10.
I have created my own wireless network which connects my windows laptop and my lexmark printer and bought (a while ago now) an PCI wireless adapter to fit into my Linux box.
The machine itself is quite old now but still going strong; however since i fitted the wireless card the machine won't reboot.
It'll start up and shut down fine but if i do updates which require an reboot to complete the machine shuts down fine. However it will only get so far as the Compaq splash screen and won't advance from there.
I have reseated all of the components, disabled the onboard lan, prioritized the hdd all TNA.
The wireless itself works fine however i believe the issue might lay in the drivers (might be using really basic ones. I have an installation disc however it was created for windows and obviously won't run (not in wine either).
Currently I am trying to update my drivers in 11.04 on a dell inspiron mini. I do not believe it is a pure dell problem, as my regular dell xps running 10.10 has been having to problems updating.
I go into additional drivers and start having it search but it gets stuck and states: Downloading package indexes failed, please check your network status. Most drivers will not be available.
Does this mean the servers are just really busy? Or do I have a problem somewhere on my end?
I have installed the c2esp driver for the printer part of my AIO. I am unable to find any scanner drivers that works. Does any one know of any drivers that will work?
I have recently purchased a Toshiba satellite pro C650 laptop. I have installed Ubuntu 10.04 via Wubi which has installed ok and boots fine but it fails to recognise my Wifi card or network so I am unable to download any drivers. It also sees my dvd rom drive but not any usb ports or other hardware. I have searched the Toshiba site but cannot find a fix on any of the Linux forums there.
This is my first post, as I've finally become fed up with trying to get the nvidia drivers installed on Fedora 10. I've read through all the posts here about how people have had problems. I know about the rpmfusion repository, and have followed leigh123's instructions to the letter at this link:[URL]The exact stepsI have taken before following his sage advice follows this way: install off the CD image I burned of Fedora 10, run from the menus "System-->Administration-->Update System" to get the system up to date, reboot to make sure everything is working fine.
Then I follow the above instructions (only because they have gotten me the closest to getting the drivers working). After the reboot from following those instructions, the system starts up, and I have a desktop. But when I restart again, either because I'm shutting down for the night, or just to check again that everything is fine,I get nothing but a flashing cursor in the upper left of my screen. I'm able to CTRL+ALT+F2 and get to a login that way, but can't get into the GUI. I've searched the forums (both here and on The Web generally), and can't find a fix for this that works for me. I have gone back and erased the partition and reinstalled, so I'm at the basic install with all the updates for my system, and needing help with getting the drivers installed and working.

As some people may have seen in my previous thread, I was trying to get X (or XFree86) working in VMware. Right now, I'm in Debian Woody, with startx failing on me yet again. I thought I had everything setup ok, but alas, it seems like I do not.
When I try to mount the cdrom drive and install vmware tools, it get errors listed in picture 1. (Also attached is my boot log, hopefully that can help. Please see boot.txt)
Now, back on topic, I have attached XF86's log. As usual, the error is near the end of the file. I think the root cause of x not starting is this symbol issue, although I really don't know for sure. It seems like startx sort of works, since when I try it, vmware resizes the window as if the proper resolution had been entered, and it was about to start drawing the desktop, but then it goes back to the normal terminal resolution, at the command line.
I recommend that you view these files with any text viewer but windows Notepad, since it can't seem to understand return characters.
