I am using Ubuntu 10.10 there is an icon left of the clock, its for Assistive Technologies - Universal Access Preferences. I have uninstalled the program, but the icon remains left of the clock. how to remove that icon.
I'm running Xubuntu 11.04 64bit for the first time. It's very nice. But how do I remove the mail icon off the taskbar? When I right click it want to remove the whole launcher, and I don't want to do that.
After installing the 11.3 CD download, I find that there is no time display in the right hand part of the panel although there is a large blank part of the display apparently waiting for it.Has anyone encountered this? My settings for time are fine but after resetting time, and before resetting time, the actual time display does not appear.
I am having the problem enabling Bluetooth on my Dell studio 1555. When I start System->Preference-Bluetooth Manager, I get message Connection to Bluez failed : Bluez daemon is not running, blueman-manager cannot continue.

I have reinstalled, removed rebooted and installed bluez, bluez-utils, Blueman, bluetooth number of times now. Two attachments are included, BlueZ output screen Bluetooth output screen Bluetooth works perfect, when I boot lucid using live CD, So I guess there is some problem with the installation. I upgraded from 9.10 to 10.4. It never worked with 9.10 and its continuing the same way.
After a restart, I see bluetooth icon, but its grey all the time. Two more screen shots.. Bluetooth output screen (Turn on) Bluetooth output screen (Turned on) sudo /etc/init.d/bluetooth status * bluetooth is running
I have taken the largest chill pill I could find and have reinstalled nutty into a spare partition with a view to taking a more forgiving approach... i'll mostly stand by the rants for the time being... Has anyone found a simple (or complex for that matter - I just want it gone!) way to disable the randomly activated lefthand vertical taskbar in unity? It really is an unnecessary irritation when I can put my essential apps down the bottom where they belong with docky (thus reducing mouse mileage on my widescreen) and have everything else a WinKey+App away.Interesting that typing "Configuration" into the search box returns 0 results on a default natty install **** Additional ****Tweaking the Unity Plugin through Advanced Compiz Manager (and gconf-editor) leads me believe that I am after a "feature" that is not available:in gconf-editor:/apps/compiz-1/plugins/unityshell/screen0/options/launcher_hide_modeis the key I would like to have an additional option of "Always" added the currently available options being "0 = Never, 1 = Autohide, 2 = Dodge Windows, 3 = Dodge Active Window"
I just backup my mysql db using mysqldump. I run it around 6pm of the evening but I just notice that on the last part of the dump file, it says "Dump completed on 2010-01-14 11:30:01". The time is "Jan 14 19:30" when I run mysqldump. Though the content is corrent, I still want to know why the dump reported it was completed but wrong time. I don't have my.cnf on my /etc so it means all was default by mysql. If I'm not mistaken, timezone by default in mysql is gmt.
My /etc/sysconfig/clock is ZONE="Asia/Manila" UTC=true ARC=false
When I do "select now();" on mysql shell, it was the same with my system. I want to prove my backup was right but this thing confuse me a bit.
I wonder if its any easy way to configure grub2...I dont want to change fonts, background or anything special. Just to change default operating system time to shown menu etc.

I just reinstalled Ubuntu Lucid Lynx and an old problem has come back. For some reason I couldn't fix it even in my previous installation. The problem is the top gnome panel. See the photo below: As you can see, the network icon is not shown properly while the Me menu is being shown twice. I can't even restart or log out or shut down at this situation without pressing the keystroke to turn the power off.
In Windows 7 when you hover over an open application in the taskbar, it shows a small image of that application. Is there a way this can be done in Linux?

For a reason I cannot remember, some months ago I installed Rhythmbox 10.0.6 as an upgrade to the standard version in Karmic ( I think it was in an attempt to get Ipod working). Now that I have upgraded to Ubuntu 10.0.4 LTS with Rhythmbox 10.0.8 installed, I have a problem that when I try to start Rhythmbox, the old (unwanted) version starts, even though I have checked and the later version is installed.I am unable to find a way to remove 10.0.6 as in the terminal when I use commandremove --purge rhythmbox-0.12.6the message I get is "Couldn't find package rhythmbox-0.12.6" but I know it's there as the folder is in filesystem/usr/local/src/rhythmbox-0.12.6Can anybody suggest a way I can remove this old, unwanted version soI can use the new version with all its lovely benefits?

I'm unable to change startup programs. If I try and add or remove a program, any changes I have made seem to undo themselves. I suspect it might have something to do with being unable to save the session, but I really don't have a clue.
Just in case it makes a difference: I'm actually running Mint (Helena).
I attempted to install the CLI management tool for my Highpoint Rocket Raid card (rr62x) downloaded from this page: [URL] When I tried installing it, this is what happens:
Code:
# dpkg -i hptraidconf_3.5_amd64.deb Selecting previously deselected package hptraidconf. (Reading database ... 68853 files and directories currently installed.)
[code]....
How can I get this package removed? I was able to get a different management tool installed to configure my RAID so I don't need this one. My system appears to be working, but everytime I use apt-get to install something else, it shows the hptraidconf package as failed.

this worked, only now I have a folder media on mybook within the mybook folder.
I wanted to remove this link, but when doing:
Code: sudo rm /media/mybook/media on mybook
I get:
Code: rm: cannot remove `/media/mybook/media': No such file or directory rm: cannot remove `on': No such file or directory rm: cannot remove `mybook': No such file or directory
