View 14 Replies View RelatedIs it possible to get "add/remove Application" back? Software Center looks nice... but that is all it is.. looking nice.... I really don't like the fact that you cannot select all the application you want to install and installed them at once. Especially when you first setting up your system. but sometime you just want "shop" through the list. Plus, you sometime you just can't remember all the name of the App you want to install, in "add/remove Application" you can shop through icon. you might argue, so did Software Center, but sitting in front of you computer, during the entire process of installing every softwares.... takes like hours.... With "Add/Remove Application" It takes a min to make all the decision and you can walk away. You wouldn't use it a lot. But it would be handy when you needed. I mean I don't really get why "Add/Remove Application" got replaced. Not to mention Software center "Gray Out" a lot I don't know. Add/Remove Application just make hell of more sense. I am not such if I can install the old package from ubuntu 9.10.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am running Unbuntu 10.10 on a HTPC, and also XBMC. With some effort it worked ok, sounds, remote etc. Via systems>preferences I managed to add XBMC to the startup. It now starts when I start the PC. However it sort-of hijacks the PC, so the WiFi does not start among other things. Also I am no longer able to log into the desktop, so I am not able to emove XBMC from the start-up of the computer. If I exit XBMC I get to the log-in screen for the desktop, but when I log in it starts XBMC directly.
How can I remove it via the terminal? I cannot find a .config directory, any autostart, any .xsession, .xinitrc or anything else that looks like startup-script. How can I get access to my desktop again?
I am not good with the X, How to remove/add entries to the "Application" menu? I am running lucid. BTW, I do not find "/usr/bin/application". Also I do not find "Application menu Editor" under Application -> System Tools. I searched with aptitude and could not find a package relevant for "Application Menu Editor", may be I used wrong keywords.

I have installed freeswitch app from opensuse 11.2 repositories. App got broken during the process/setup.., I have removed it (yast) ignoring some of it's dependencies, also I have removed folder /opt/freeswitch manually. In Yast it shows that app is still installed.. when trying to remove it, there is an error, force remove also out puts an error. "whereis" command shows no file, I was also trying to force install it one more time but it fails. Is there a was to delete it permanently?

I have a pair of shell scripts that launch SSH sessions with different forwarded ports, and use them multiple times each day. I'd like to drag the shell script directly onto the top Ubuntu Bar where shortcuts go and be able to use it. Or, even better, put all of my frequently used shell scripts in a "drawer". I know that I used to be able to make a shortcut, and set its path to "gnome-terminal -e file://xx.sh" and the script would run in a new terminal window. When I try to do this, a terminal opens with an error dialog that reads "There was an error creating the child process for this terminal". Permissions?
I have installed openSUSE 11.4 from live DVD.. The Installation screens appeared to display properly in my TV. However , post installation , the display is completely gone , there are only horizontal stripes displayed. Then I rebooted to Failsafe mode and I was able to see a workable screen ...The problem again is that the fonts are too small and not at all legible. I am able to see that SUSE has identified the Nvidia Driver and identified the TV and the resolution.. But I want to change it to a more bigger resolution..
I thought I could remove "nouveau" and set the display to "Xvesa"...How do I do that?? On terminal I am trying to kill the nouveau processes and giving rmmod nouveau , but not successful. How do I cahnge to a better resolution? Maybe 1280*1084 or 1280*768?
When I try to launch it from the System Tools sub folder, I see it appear for a second and then it disappears. What should I do? This is the code displayed when I try running it from the Terminal.

I'm assuming this is some type of permission problem, but I cannot seem to figure it out. I have set the permissions to be identical to the other icons in /usr/shared/icons/hicolor/scalable/apps/, but have no luck doing that either.

It's more advanced then Midnight Commander and I would like to use it to better understand Debian FS and do console works there. However, I have a problem and it seems that their support forum does not work, so I thought to ask for general help here, in case it's something that can be set in Debian. Problem is that when I run this manager I can't use arrow keys or 'num pad' or PgUp/PgDn/.... pad but only 'central part' of keyboard - regular keys and Fx buttons. So I was wondering if there could be some problem between terminal emulation and this application that can cause such behaviour which is unacceptable for normal usage, obviously.

I have a Spanish (Latin American) keyboard, where I have to press the accent key and then the vowel I want to have an accent. What happens is this: I press the diacritic key, and then the vowel, but NOTHING appears. Exceptionally, Java apps (eg. Netbeans) show a square with a question mark inside: Something else is strange. Normally, if you press the accent key twice, the diacritic appears by itself, ie. (I copy-pasted that). So, this works for the following accents: But not for these: The letters show fine on my machine, eg. in Nautilus, in Firefox; I am just unable to type them. There were some updates done by yum on the day this started happening, but I have no idea if that's the cause of all this... I tried undoing the update transaction but it failed.
