View 2 RepliesI have a Dell Inspiron 1720 running Ubuntu v10.04 with a wireless card.My desktop is a Dell Optiflex running WinXP.The desktop is connected via ethernet cable to a Linksys wireless router. Certain folders on the desktop are set for sharing. Up until early last week I was able to access the desktop folders from the laptop with no issues.Suddenly I am now getting this error "Unable to mount location Failed to mount Windows share" whenever I try to access the desktop folders from the laptop.I suspect an upgrade is the culprit, but not sure.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have 2 internal drives. One is for the OS and one is for the Data. I tried to get the Data drive to mount automatically at login using some crap I found on a linux blog. Safe to say it didn't work and now I can't mount it with the OS on the OS Drive.
It mounts from a live CD and all the data is perfectly safe. When I try to mount the drive I get this error message: "Error mounting: mount exited with exit code 1: helper failed with: mount: only root can mount /dev/sdb1 on /media/data" What have I done wrong and how can I make it mount again? Preferably this time at login.
I have been trying to share folders from my main PC which is running Ubuntu 10.04. I have been able to figure out Samba enough to get my a couple of folders shared, but I have been unable to share any folders which are on my external harddrive. After entering the path in my smb.conf file they appear on the network but I am unable to navigate to them. When trying to navigate to them through the network folder on the pc they are actually connected to I get an "Unable to mount location: Failed to mount windows share" dialog box. On the windows pc I am trying to share with I get, "Windows cannot acces \Josh-Desktop
ame of folder"
My smb.conf file looks like this:
That folders I cannot access are Music and Videos.
I on a dell latitude c500/c600 and running 9.10 and have a maxtor 160 gb external hd that wont mount right. it shows up in / but when i click on it i get the error message:unable to mount location can't mount file. could someone give a suggestion to get this to work.

I just installed Linux Mint Debian Edition on my friend's laptop. The biggest problem is getting his iPhone 4 to mount. On libimobiledevice.org it shows a cool video of a guy managing his iPhone with Linux thanks to libimobiledevice. libimobiledevice.org also says libimobiledevice supports the iPhone 4. But when he plugs it in, he gets an error that says:
Quote: Unable to mount location: Unhandled Lockdown error (-5) It's a serious issue and needs to be resolved ASAP. ***EDIT*** If this is a hardware topic, any mods can feel free to move it.
I have been using truecrypt to mount a partition on my computer for a few months now. Yesterday I tried to access it and it failed, with the following error:" mount: you must specify the filesystem type "
When creating the partition, the filesystem type was set to ext2. Apart from yesterday, I have not accessed this partition for a number of days now, and have done nothing to the operating in system in the ways of changing settings and such for a good week.
I am using Debian 6.0. When I try to mount a drive (USB) in GNOME or using udisks, I end up with following error message:

I'm totally unable to play or mount audio CDs and unable to use video DVD's on my box right now. When I insert an audio CD I get a dialog box saying:
Unable to mount disc: Location is not mountable
and if I check messages in the Log File Viewer I see the following text repeated (save for the last line) a couple of dozen times.
Code:

on a similar but ultimately unrelated thread someone was asked to enter a few commands so I tried them and the following was the output:
Code:
main@Amber:~$ ls /dev/scd*
/dev/scd0
main@Amber:~$ sudo mount /dev/cdrom /media/cdrom0

An error occurred: Could not open location; you might not have permission to open the file. As far as I can tell I have the relevant CSS libraries installed I'm lost without being able to play CD's and DVD's on my system.
I switch on the PC and it loads the Grub splash screen. However, it does not automatically boot the top entry after two seconds as it's supposed to and just hangs. I hit enter to boot it and it attempts to but after a few seconds gives me the error "unable to mount file system....a maintenance shell will be started"
This occurred after I was using it and then everything suddenly froze up on me and I had to crash out Now this!
I have recently set up an ubuntu installation on an old PC. After some fiddling with both it, and the windows 7 machine, I have managed to share all of my drives. However, when attempting to access them from ubuntu, only 2 of the 4 hard disk shares will mount, with the other 2 failing with a Unable to mount location, failed to mount windows share error message.

Issue: Unable to resize the FS after extending the root LV since it is mounted. After extending the LV, online resizing of the FS was not supported and the root filesystem could not be unmounted while it was in use. On rebooting, I got a kernel panic error. Am new here, and although am not a total newbie to linux, I could do with some guidance.
I have ubuntu 8.04 installed on a Dell Mini 10 with an SSD internal disk.
I have purchased a Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 320 Gb with a USB interface to connect to my laptop.
I have tried just plugging it in, but it does not get mounted. Do I need to install some drivers for the disk?
Here is the output from the df command without the disk plugged in (same output when I plug the usb connector) code...
So the disk is actually recognised. Running fdisk -l returns nothing, and the df command shows the same output as above.

I recently installed Fedora 12 + KDE on my laptop. I also have a media PC which I have connected to my TV. It has an external HD connected to which I am trying to mount on my laptop. It is connected to two other PCs all running Windows 7, part of a workgroup that only requires a password with no user log in. These PCs are working OK but I cant mount the shared drive on my Fedora laptop. I have tried the "Add Network Place" wizard which didnt work. Tried using the host IP rather than the host name. This got me to a user authentication screen which prompted me for a username and password.
As I mentioned before, the only user authentication required to connect to it should be that the device should be within the same workgroup and use the password. Tried using the workgroup name as the username which didnt work, neither did using the PCs usual log in. Eventually I gave up on the wizard and attempted to mount it from the command line using the following command.

I have installed ubuntu 10.10 and the Samba addon to configure my shares to my Windows terminals. This is what I got
Firewall off (utf disabled)
Internal Sata /dev/sda1 (EXT4 FS)
External USB HDD /dev/sdb1 mounted at /media/SG1500GB (EXT4 FS)
I have two shares
1. //home/test - Which I can see and access with no problems (can't write to it though even though I set the share as writable?, but, I can read from it). This is available to everyone. My windows terminal can see this folder and access it. This is on my main 80GB internal drive /dev/sda1.
2. //media/SG1500GB/Music. I set this up for everyone full access and I can see it at all my Windows machines but,I can't get into the folder. Windows keeps giving me an error stating network path not found.I also try to access it via the Nautilus (Places/Network/system/music) and get an error message "unable to mount location, Failed to mount windows share". This drive is mounted per the disk utility.

View 15 Replies View RelatedI was trying to install Ubuntu 10.04 on my Sony VAIO Laptop, for the full specs, it's here. I have Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit, I downloaded the latest version of Wubi. I copied the Wubi executable to the directory where I downloaded the ISO file of Ubuntu 10.04 (32-bit). Everything went fine, I was able to install it properly. Then I after restarting my computer and selecting Ubuntu on the Boot Menu, the only thing that I can see is just a blank screen. I tried hard rebooting a lot of times and still, nothing happens.
what is the possible solution to the "blank screen" issue that I'm experiencing?
I was able to ssh to a unix box from my laptop (I generated public and private keys and copied the public keys to the remote machine). Is it normal that I cannot ssh from the unix machine to my laptop? I expected that I could log in from both machines to the other. I am running ubuntu on my laptop and the other machine has redhat.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI cant install ubuntu 11.04 on my laptop. I downloaded the ubuntu iso from its official site. I tried several ways to install it like :within windows, through usb, through burning the iso but neither of them worked. When i boot from usb or CD there's just a black screen after the choosing one of the options (i.e. try ubuntu, install ubuntu, etc) and nothing happens. So I had to shut it down by holding the switch after about 20 minutes. But it works on PC without a problem. I have installed it on my PC. If i install it within windows, it completes the installation and then whan I reboot it , it says completing remaining installation and the black screen appears.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to install 11.04 on an older Averatec laptop. (AMD Athlon XP-M 2200+, 512 MD DDR, 60 GB HD) I tried Live CD and alternative. They both freeze up during installation. Live CD is definitely good as I can open Ubuntu as a trial on another computer. Booting as a trial on the laptop also freezes up.
Tried boot parameters "nomodeset" and "acpi=off" without success. Reformated disk several times with dban which hasn't helped. Even tried xbuntu in case there wasn't enough memory. That froze up as well.
I have a computer running Ubuntu 10.10. I am using it to share many hard drives connected to it. I am using Samba. I have successfully shared many folders to one Windows user. I am attempting to share other folders within the shared folders to another user as read only but have not had any success. When I attempt to connect to one of the shares from another computer running Ubuntu 10.10, logged into an Administrator account with the same username and password which I setup on the Samba share I get the error: "Unable to mount location" "Failed to mount Windows share"
