View 9 RepliesSucceeded in connecting to internet using my wll phone. I can now connect using 'wvdial' command in root terminal. But I want to connect through terminal. I tried 'sudo wvdial' command. Then I am asked for my password. But I cannot type my password there. When I type, nothing appears on the terminal window. Ofcourse there's no problem with my keyboard.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm not to sure this is the place I should post this, but couldn't find any place for it to fit. So here is the deal..I am running 10.10 with the standard LAMP setup. I am running a drupal 7 site no problems. What I need to do is run a multi site sub directory. (domain.com/newsite). So far the best I can do is get a directory index of the second site (domain.com/newsite), but cant run the installer. (I did the symbolic link to the doc root of the drupal install.)If I type in the url domain.com/newsite/install.php I get not found. I placed an index.html test page and it renders fine. I think I'm close but just not there yet.
Any ideas from anyone? I can get Sobdomains to work fine on a test mache, but sadly I need the domain/site to work due to lack of DNS support at the moment. I tried to get some info from the drupal forum, but everything always points to subdomin setups. I also posted over there, but it seems like the forums have very little support and are a bit on the slow side.

I just installed Kubuntu 10.10 Maverick on my Dell Latitude D820. Everything works great, but when i use the MicroBlogging plasmoid to post a tweet, I can type the text but pressing the Enter key has no effect.

I have recently install UBUNTU 10.10 and I have found after leaving the computer unused for sometime it locks itself. When I try to unlock by typing password, nothing prints on Password box, I also tried swtich user nothing works. The only option left is to shutdown.

excuse if this is incorrect section, not entirely sure where it would belong. I rarely find myself posting as i rarely have any issues. But this is persistently annoying, tho not a deal-breaker. Currently running latest Ubuntu 10.04, fully updated. Everything works fine, even better than any previous releases. No problems worth mentioning. But this is annoying, so anyway, here I am.
Installed Miro, loads up and runs fine, can download no probs. The section at the top where it says "account", and you sit over it and it drops down a window for your login details (username, password) so as to recall your personal settings, preferences, etc, but it's not working. By this, I mean the drop-down appears, but clicking the mouse in the window on the lines does not seem to register with it, you can't enter anything. Annoying, slightly frustrating. Since Feb 12, I am unable to enter accented characters on any application. I have a Spanish (Latin American) keyboard, where I have to press the accent key and then the vowel I want to have an accent. What happens is this: I press the diacritic key, and then the vowel, but NOTHING appears. Exceptionally, Java apps (eg. Netbeans) show a square with a question mark inside: Something else is strange. Normally, if you press the accent key twice, the diacritic appears by itself, ie. (I copy-pasted that). So, this works for the following accents: But not for these: The letters show fine on my machine, eg. in Nautilus, in Firefox; I am just unable to type them. There were some updates done by yum on the day this started happening, but I have no idea if that's the cause of all this... I tried undoing the update transaction but it failed.

View 8 Replies View Relatedthis may not be the right place to ask this, but my sister has a macbook and the keyboard does not want to work. i have looked online and i see that the main cause of this problem is in Leopard (correct me if im wrong). So i was wondering if perhaps using linux would solve this problem or if the problem is more hardware related than os related.
Also, how would i go about booting into a linux cd? since u need to enter some keyboard keys at startup and assuming that won't work, is there another way?
I broke sudo when I wrongly edited a file in /etc/sudoers.d in vi(did not use visudo :-().I read that I could fix the same by rebooting into the 'Recovery Mode' by selecting the same from the grub menu.
However I'd earlier disabled the showing of the grub menu by editing /etc/default/grub. As a result I can't seem to go into recovery mode to fix my broken sudo.

I am pasting sudo commands without problems as a user (ales in my case) and then immediately the ask the user password.
The keyboard seems to be dead, no keys work, not allowing me to enter the password.

When running MC in xterm or gnome-terminal, it doesn't seem to allow the use of Ctrl-enter and Ctr-shift-enter to copy marked files to the command line.
Does anyone know of another way to cause this to happen or a way to enable it under xterm/gnome-term?
I am unable to play any trailer from Apple - Movie Trailers site. I went to location Apple - QuickTime - Troubleshooting to check if quicktime was installed correctly. I got the first quicktime logo which said that it's installed correctly but the animated logo (bottom right) showed the picture of a computer monitor instead of the animated quicktime logo. Which obviously means that i cannot stream video - my problem exactly.
I have a broadband connection and as an example when i go to the location Apple - iPhone - Gallery - TV Ads ; i have the website player trying to access the video but just keeps accessing it - never plays. I can play quicktime videos locally from my drive without any problems. I have struggling with this for the last 1 wk on every conceivable linux/Suse forum ; but without any success. I have mplayer , mplayerplug-in, libquicktime, libquicktime0, gnome-mplayer, gecko-media player already installed. Besides, i have totem, mplayer, mplayerplug-in, vlc-mozillaplugin installed.
How do i stream the trailers?
As a side note ; i found that totem is the one that tries to play my quicktime files; whereas totem is unable to play the .mov files locally for me. Vlc player works fine for .mov files. How do i make Vlc player stream my quicktime media may also solve my problem !
I installed Fedora 11 on my system (see below) using the i686 DVD. The graphical install worked just fine, and after the system booted back up, the X server was working very well.
There is no boot text. On the other system with Fedora 11, I can see the boot text scroll by in the window and/or a progress bar at the bottom of the monitor during the boot sequence. On this system, the monitor says "No Input", and nothing appears until the login prompt for the X window. I am able to enter the BIOS configuration page and navigate through it without any issues. I can also edit the grub commands before Fedora loads without a problem.
If I boot in text mode, no login prompt appears. If I wait long enough, the monitor enters the power save mode since it is not receiving a signal. I am able to log in to the system with my user name and password, and then start the X server. Once the server starts, the monitor turns back ON and all is well.
From the X window, I use the CTL+ALT+F2 key to enter text mode. The monitor stops responding. If I press the ENTER key a couple of times, then press ALT+F7, I can briefly see the text window with a couple of login prompts before the X window starts responding again.
How can I get the text mode to work? Why is there no input to the monitor when booting?

I've loaded Fedora and must say what a nice OS! But I'm having some issues getting the video working correctly so let me jump right into the issue. The video is very garbled and hard to read. can't seem to find a way to correct what would appear to be a driver issue. Here are a list of things tried:
- display works fine with Ubuntu
- display is clear but is chopped off when using an external monitor from onboard vga slot
The video card is an ATI radeon and the linux drivers from the ATI site don't work with the new images that are out yet.
I've been on a quest to enable full routing through my openvpn tunnel between my office and the colo. Masquerading will work, however it will throw off anything key based and makes a lot of things just more difficult and vague in general. Is there an easy way to do this via iptables? I tried using quagga hoping it would magically solve my problems, however it does not seem to do my routing for me . I just did a basic static route within zebra...
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have three locations with a central office connected to two remote locations. At the central office I run on a cisco asa 5505 two site to site vpns. The remote end of the first site is a checkpoint firewall , and the remote end of the second site is racoon on debian. Both sites are up and working. However, where at the first site traffic goes both ways, at the second site it only works from the central office to the remote office.
For example, I can ssh from a host in the central office to a host in the first remote site (through checkpoint firewall,) then ssh back from that host at the remote office to any host in the central office. In contrast, after I ssh from a host in the central office to a host in the second remote office (through racoon), I cannot see the central office hosts (ping the ip address of a central office host, ssh, etc. all fail.) The vpn settings at the central office (the cisco asa 5505) are identical. So it seems to me that some routing magic is missing on the host running racoon at the second remote office. Where would such setting reside? racoon config files? iptables?
Maybe a site-to-site Ouija board connection.
