Fedora :: No Monitor Input During Boot, Unable To Enter Text Mode From X Window

I installed Fedora 11 on my system (see below) using the i686 DVD. The graphical install worked just fine, and after the system booted back up, the X server was working very well.
There is no boot text. On the other system with Fedora 11, I can see the boot text scroll by in the window and/or a progress bar at the bottom of the monitor during the boot sequence. On this system, the monitor says "No Input", and nothing appears until the login prompt for the X window. I am able to enter the BIOS configuration page and navigate through it without any issues. I can also edit the grub commands before Fedora loads without a problem.
If I boot in text mode, no login prompt appears. If I wait long enough, the monitor enters the power save mode since it is not receiving a signal. I am able to log in to the system with my user name and password, and then start the X server. Once the server starts, the monitor turns back ON and all is well.
From the X window, I use the CTL+ALT+F2 key to enter text mode. The monitor stops responding. If I press the ENTER key a couple of times, then press ALT+F7, I can briefly see the text window with a couple of login prompts before the X window starts responding again.
How can I get the text mode to work? Why is there no input to the monitor when booting?

I can sometimes click on a window, but it doesn't become the focus, and I can only make it the focus by clicking of the bar at the top of the window.Secondly, even if the window is the focus, I can't enter any text into the window unless I minimalise all the other windows.For example if I have Thunderbird and Firefox windows open at the same time I can't enter text into a box in a Firefox window until I have minimalised the Thunderbird window and all the other windows that are open.

I am running Lucid Lynx, kernel 2.6.32.23 generic, I have a card with the Broadcom BCM4311, with the STA Linux Wireless driver. I have no idea how to get monitor mode to work with the Aircrack-ng suite's Airmon-ng command. I use the command: sudo airmon-ng start eth1
And I get this output: Found 5 processes that could cause trouble. If airodump-ng, aireplay-ng or airtun-ng stops working after a short period of time, you may want to kill (some of) them!

I run Natty 64x (new install) and have setup to use two seperate x servers and no xinerama. When I start my computer everything seems fine on both monitors but once desktop is loaded and I start an app in the second monitor, I can't type anything and the window borders are missing. If I type "DISPLAY:=0.1 metacity" the problem gets fixed but I get an error that a window manager is running already.
I have AMD/Nvidia, GeForce 8800GT.

I broke sudo when I wrongly edited a file in /etc/sudoers.d in vi(did not use visudo :-().I read that I could fix the same by rebooting into the 'Recovery Mode' by selecting the same from the grub menu.
However I'd earlier disabled the showing of the grub menu by editing /etc/default/grub. As a result I can't seem to go into recovery mode to fix my broken sudo.

I've installed an Ubuntu GNU/Linux 10.04 Server (Lucid Lynx) in a great computer, but with a small and old CRT monitor, that doesn't support much screen resolutions and frequencies. How can I do to make the system to use everytime traditional text mode (80x25 characters or compatibles)?

How to configure Linux text console to automatically turn of the monitor after some time? And by "text console" I mean that thing that you get on ctrl+alt+F[1-6], which is what you get whenever X11 is not running. And, no, I'm not using any framebuffer console (it's a plain, good and old 80x25 text-mode). Many years ago, I was using Slackware Linux, and it used to boot up in text-mode. Then you would manually run startx after the login. Anyway, the main login "screen" was the plain text-mode console, and I remember that the monitor used to turn off (energy saving mode, indicated by a blinking LED) after some time. Now I'm using Gentoo, and I have a similar setup.
The machine boots up in text-mode, and only rarely I need to run startx. I say this because this is mostly my personal Linux server, and there is no need to keep X11 running all the time. (which means: I don't want to use GDM/KDM or any other graphical login screen). But now, in this Gentoo text-mode console, the screen goes black after a while, but the monitor does not enter any energy-saving mode (the LED is always lit). Yes, I've waited long enough to verify this. Thus, my question is: how can I configure my current system to behave like the old one? In other words, how to make the text console trigger energy-saving mode of the monitor?

im currently using a RHEL5 RIS server in my Lab to deploy rhel5 for all my systems. everything has been configured and installation works fine, but i am not able to run the installation in text interface mode. when i type "linux text", i get an error saying invalid kernel parameter. i'll paste my /etc/dhcpd.conf file here. please have a look and let me know what changes i should be making in order for my text interface installation to be working.

i have installed fedora 12(from dvd) on my laptop having window 7 OS as deafult(intel processor i330)I wanted dual boot up, so I shrink the existing C partition using window using Disk Management. And then delete the newly created volume.Clean installation of fedora.But when I tried to boot window it is showing "No C drive exist".Although from linux all hardrive is coming as one file system and all data on Drive are intact i.e not data is lost.

dose any one know the text string to enter to DISABLE ip v6 100% during the install?using the gui installer for fedora 5,6,7,8,9 i have been able to disable this ( uncheck a check box) then set the system up manually for ip4 .the reason is for some reason if ip6 is on during the install ( i have had this problem with all versions of fedora f5 through 9 and now 10)then fedora will never, never, NEVER ever connect to the net .the ip6 lookup kills my cable box, i boot into windows and it can not even connect until i unplug the box for 2 min and plug it back in and get a NEW/renewed ip address .so i do believe that i am going to need to do a text install and disable ip6. But the question is HOW ?

My hard disk is a 40 gb seagate drive with 3 logical partitions - C (Win 98), D (Data), E (Win XP Home). Yesterday, I decided to format Win 98 partition and install Fedora 11 on it. I used Live USB, custom partitioned for /, /boot and swap. Installation went fine until the Add/Delete boot screen came when I got multiple Unable to mount partition errors. Then I added Win XP (which was on sda6) and restarted the system. When the system booted, I selected Win XP but it didn't do anything. It showed blank screen and then reverted to grub boot loader screen. Then I selected Fedora time and completed installation and it works fine but XP doesn't boot.
Thinking something might have gone wrong, today I reinstalled Fedora. I chose "Install over previous Linux" and this time the installation went smoothly without any errors. However it still doesn't let me boot into Win XP. It gives a "Booting into WinXP in 3/2/1 seconds" and then goes blank and keeps repeating that message.

Succeeded in connecting to internet using my wll phone. I can now connect using 'wvdial' command in root terminal. But I want to connect through terminal. I tried 'sudo wvdial' command. Then I am asked for my password. But I cannot type my password there. When I type, nothing appears on the terminal window. Ofcourse there's no problem with my keyboard.

I edited the /etc/default/grub file (GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash text" ) to make ubuntu boot into text mode directly, but now the problem is some LCD (1366x768 resolution)no display when boot into text mode. It may be relate with LCD EDID, the same ubuntu OS hard disk can boot into text mode with another LCD (1600x900 resolution).
My ubuntu is 9.10 64bit, sony notebook.

Environment: A 32-bit kernel RHEL5.3 system running on a virtual machine. The root(/) filesystem is on an LV.
Issue: Unable to resize the FS after extending the root LV since it is mounted. After extending the LV, online resizing of the FS was not supported and the root filesystem could not be unmounted while it was in use. On rebooting, I got a kernel panic error. In runlevel 1, I couldn't run chroot, couldn't find the /etc/fstab, root FS could not be mounted, fsck did not run (tried block 31 for second copy of superblock using dd count=1 bs=4k skip=31 seek=1 if=/dev/sda2 of=/dev/sda2), couldn't find any rpm on installation media to install unix-utils rpm. Since Feb 12, I am unable to enter accented characters on any application. I have a Spanish (Latin American) keyboard, where I have to press the accent key and then the vowel I want to have an accent. What happens is this: I press the diacritic key, and then the vowel, but NOTHING appears. Exceptionally, Java apps (eg. Netbeans) show a square with a question mark inside: Something else is strange. Normally, if you press the accent key twice, the diacritic appears by itself, ie. (I copy-pasted that). So, this works for the following accents: But not for these: The letters show fine on my machine, eg. in Nautilus, in Firefox; I am just unable to type them. There were some updates done by yum on the day this started happening, but I have no idea if that's the cause of all this... I tried undoing the update transaction but it failed.

It seems I had no say in the matter. The installer automatically did text mode and it starts up in text mode now. I'm very new to Fedora, though I had Ubuntu installed recently but removed it because Fedora seemed a little more interesting to me. I'm on an HP Pavilion dv2807nr laptop if that helps.

I tried installing Fedora 11 on my i386 using the 6 CD set that I downloaded. Since my system has only 128M of RAM, the text install mode was used. The 1st CD installation seemed to work OK. After 181 out of 181 packages were installed, the system rebooted and did not ask for me to insert the other CDs. now when my system comes up, it is always in text mode.
Q. Is there a command I can use to have the remaining CD's installed so I can install the graphics system?

I made a clean installation of F15 on my laptop, is a Qosmio x505, it has an nvidia M360, so I download the nvidia drivers and intall it separatly.To install the nvidia drivers I change the runlevel with the commandln -sf /lib/systemd/system/multi-user.target /etc/systemd/system/default.targetAnd then, change it again to the graphical mode with the commandln -sf /lib/systemd/system/graphical.target /etc/systemd/system/default.targetEverything seems ok, but the system only boot in text mode. Iv'e tried on both CD & USB. Upon Live Boot from the CD I get the first purple screen, then "No Input Signal" on my monitor. Upon Live Boot from USB I've choosen both the Install & Boot options, then It thinks for a minute; and I recieve "No Input Signal". I'm leaning toward it being my "Graphics Card"(NOTHING IS WRONG WITH IT OR ANY OF MY HARDWARE!!!!; but it is an "ATI" ^_^), but thats just a guess.
