Software :: Ctrl-enter Doesn't Work When Running Midnight Commander In Xterm?
Feb 16, 2010
When running MC in xterm or gnome-terminal, it doesn't seem to allow the use of Ctrl-enter and Ctr-shift-enter to copy marked files to the command line.
Does anyone know of another way to cause this to happen or a way to enable it under xterm/gnome-term?

I have a problem accessing a ftp server with SSL/TLS active with Midnight Commander.By now I'm quite sure that Midnight Commander does not support SSL/TLS.Anybody know of a alternative to MC with SSL/TLS support or a work around so that I'm able to use MC?A non cli ftp-client is not an option because the machine I'm accessing from is in runlevel 3.

MC remembers which panel (left or right) had the focus when closing. The next time MC opens that panel receives the focus. Is there a way to disable that option where the focus is always the left panel?There is a Command option (shortcut Ctrl-u) to swap the panels. I prefer MC simply start with the focus on the left panel.

I am using Midnight Commander, namely this package:mc-4.7.5.2-1.fc15.x86_64I have noticed it always returns me to the directory it was started in, no matter what is told in its manual.Are there simple means to override this behavior and quit it in the current directory (as expected when quit via F10)?

This problem has been bugging me since KDE4 starting shipping. In konsole, if you use the default black on white profile, and you start Midnight Commander, the color of the MC screen is the default blue color it has always been. However, if you change to the green on black profile, which is the one that I prefer, and you start MC, the blue changes to some unreadable light robin egg blue which is horrid.
I'm making a huge assumption here, but it looks like something is off with the green on black profile in Konsole. Try it yourself and you will see what I mean. This only started with KDE4, but it still persists through every version to current.

I prefer to use the built-in editor that came with mc, which can be accessed with 'mc -e', however, I find when using midnight commander, if I type 'F4', then I'm presented with nano, which isn't what I want.

To enable samba virtual file-system in mc (under slackware-current), mc's configure needs different arguments than before. See the attached patch.
Code:

Since I began using F11, Midnight Commander takes a life to start. Previous versions of Fedora didn't give me any problem. I know many of you don't use it, but for those who needs MC, anyone is having the same trouble? F11 x86_64.

After upgrading to Lucid, MC looks ugly - like some colors are missed. Its very difficult to work in MC now - directories and files have same color for example. [fantomas@fantomas-laptop]:-boot.png. Also, applying different themes (skins) changes bottom bar (with menu: F1 F2 etc) button colors only, not affecting colors of panels. Install 4.7.3 build of MC from here: [URL]...

I have the following line in my .Xresources, and it only works when I'm not running KDE:
Code:
XTerm*reverseVideo: true When I start up XTerm in Xfce, TWM, or any other window manager, I get the expected black background. When I launch XTerm in KDE, I get a white background, meaning that the reverseVideo setting is not taking effect. When I'm in KDE, launching XTerm with -rv does give me an XTerm with a black background. Obviously, having to add this switch every time I launch an XTerm in KDE is suboptimal, no matter how you try to automate it. Manually running xrdb -merge ~/.Xresources and then launching XTerm immediately afterwards does not make a difference.
If you're wondering why this is a concern, it's because all 256-color vim color schemes (xoria256, desert256, inkpot) require reverseVideo to be set so that XTerm launches with a black background. You get a black-on-black cursor otherwise.

I tried search for a solution for this from google but couldn't find much that would help me. I just installed a fresh copy of Ubuntu 10.04 from the live cd, and now I want to install the nvidia drivers. But i'm not able to access the terminal. Ctrl + alt + f1-f7 does nothing. Also, doing sudo service gdm stop, puts me in the black screen where it gets stuck at "Checking Battery state", with a blinking cursor following it. I can type stuff but it doesn't do anything. No terminal, no response.
After that the only thing that works is alt+ctrl+delete , which shows me the ubuntu logo for a few seconds , with a few lines in the black screen before the restart happens. Sorry i'm really new to linux so I'm not sure what files or configs I can show you guys to help with this unless you ask for something specifically.

not sure exactly when this broke, but for some reason I'm not able to use CTRL-ALT-F1 anymore to fall back to the first virtual console.I can kill X with CTRL-ALT-BACKSPACE just fine, but I'd like to be able to get a normal shell to kill things when I've messed too much with graphical stuff.

I've Intellij Idea and Netbeans installed on my Ubuntu desktop. Both worked fine while I was on 10.10.After upgrading to 11.04 both of them became irresponsive to Ctrl+C/Ctrl+V/Ctrl+{Any alphabet letter} combinations. However these combinations work in non-Java apps (e.g. gedit).Besides that Ctrl+Alt+L (Lock screen) is not handled by the system, no matter what application is active.Disabling unity does not help. Starting in ubuntu classic w/o effects does not help either.

I'm running fedora 13 on a Dell Latitude E6500. It's a dual 64-bit system.
It was working, but then I tried to swap caps lock and control.
I used:
System->Preferences->Keyboard
Layouts->USA->Options
Then, under Control Key Position, I selected swap caps lock and control.
Now, my keyboard won't work in the Keyboard Preferences test area or in any other window or when the screen-lock comes on.
I tried logging out. I tried rebooting. I tried deleting my .gnome2 directory. Nothing seems to work. I can use the keyboard on other accounts, so the keyboard is not the problem.
