Ubuntu Installation :: Can't Remove Broken Sun-java6 Packages

Mar 22, 2010

I installed java and my computer went off in the middle of the process and some packages didn't install correctly. I decided to reinstall them but it doesn't let me. I have tried to remove them using the synaptic manager, I also tried to remove them manually. I've tried: apt-get -f install also. I tried to re-install it using:

sudo apt-get install sun-java6-jre sun-java6-plugin sun-java6-fonts

but this error comes up

Errors were encountered while processing:
sun-java6-jdk
sun-java6-fonts
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

Software :: Installing Sun-java6-plugin Without The Browser?

May 16, 2011

I need to install sun-java6-plugin on Debian 6. I already have a Web browser installed in /usr/local/, but it seems sun-java6-plugin requires me to install 1 browser from their list in order to install it. The thing is, I don't want to install any of those browsers, and disk space is kind of limited. How can I install jun-java6-plugin without installing a browser which it depends on?

Ubuntu Installation :: Sun-java6-plugin Displayed In Firefox 3.6.10 But Not Working

Sep 17, 2010

Initially when I upgraded to Lucid I uninstalled openJDK and switched back to sun-java5 packages due to some application support limitations. Now I have to upgrade to sun-java6- packages. I removed the sun-java5 packages and installed the sun-java6 packages. Including the sun-java6-plugin.

I can see the plugin in aboutlugins in Firefox 3.6.10 however nothing (like webex or applets) related to java works. As a workaround I have used the Icedtea plugin which comes with open JDK and that seems to work. However I want to get the sun-java6-plugin working.

Ubuntu Installation :: LUCID: Downloading Repositories/Packages - Get This Message " Unable To Find Expected Entry Deb-src/binary-i386/Packages In Meta-index File "?

Jun 24, 2010

I did the UPGRADE from Karmic Koala to Lucid, and everything was going well. But now I've been having problems with the UBUNTU UPDATE tool for the last 2 weeks. Every time I try to do an update check on the packages, I get the following message:Failed to fetch http:[url]....Release Unable to find expected entry deb-src/binary-i386/Packages in Meta-index file (malformed Release file?)

Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.I've tried changing the servers to MAIN and others, and still no way to solve it. I've also checked for other posts, but haven't found a solution yet. Here's my SOURCES LIST (gksudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list)# See http:[url].... for how to upgrade to # newer versions of the distribution.
