Ubuntu :: E: Package 'virtualbox-3.2' Has No Installation Candidate

May 23, 2011

I write apps for webOS, and need to use the palm emulator. The emulator runs on virtualbox-3.0 to virtualbox-3.2 only (no support for virtualbox 4). After adding the virtualbox source, I still cannot install virtualbox-3.2, and am instead given the error:

Quote:

Package virtualbox-3.2 is not available, but is referred to by another package. This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or is only available from another source E: Package 'virtualbox-3.2' has no installation candidate I tried downloading and installing the virtualbox-3.2 package from the web site, but it does not run. The contents of /var/log/vbox-install.log are as follows:

Quote:

Uninstalling modules from DKMS
removing old DKMS module vboxhost version 3.2.12
------------------------------
Deleting module version: 3.2.12

[code]....

Is there some way that I can get this package installed?

Ubuntu Installation :: Sun-java6-plugin Displayed In Firefox 3.6.10 But Not Working

Sep 17, 2010

Initially when I upgraded to Lucid I uninstalled openJDK and switched back to sun-java5 packages due to some application support limitations. Now I have to upgrade to sun-java6- packages. I removed the sun-java5 packages and installed the sun-java6 packages. Including the sun-java6-plugin.

I can see the plugin in aboutlugins in Firefox 3.6.10 however nothing (like webex or applets) related to java works. As a workaround I have used the Icedtea plugin which comes with open JDK and that seems to work. However I want to get the sun-java6-plugin working.

Ubuntu Installation :: Apt-get Error "Eackage Xxxx Has No Installation Candidate"

Aug 19, 2011

Im a first time user of Ubuntu, I have 11.04 64bit installed. I used to use Fedora before. Seems like all of a sudden APT-GET stopped working. Whatever I try to install, it either tells me dependencies unmet presumably because the libraries are uninstalable (as it it says), and then when I try to install these packages I always get the error "Eackage xxxx has no installation candidate". This is for anything I try. I use Main server in Software Source, but have tried different servers too. May I point out that I haven't touched it, one day it was working the next it was not. Very Windows-like

(4) RHYTHMBOX launch is hit & miss. The little icon appears in the tray but I can do nothing - can't ask it to Show Rhythmbox and can't shut it down. Have to use System Monitor and kill the process there. IF MY MACHINE HAS NOT FROZEN DOWN COMPLETELY.

(5) GOOGLE CHROME and FIREFOX browsers run quickly when they start, and then, as time passes, run more and more slowly, until the freeze the whole computer.

Ubuntu Installation :: E: Encountered A Package With No Package: Header

Jun 20, 2010

I just finished installing a dual boot XP/Ubuntu 10.04 LTS for desktop about half an hour ago, and it's my first experience with a Linux OS. Now that my *complete idiot noob* flag is flying, I have an error I think I need to report:An error occurs with the Package Manager, I get this message when I try to run it, and when Ubuntu boots:

E: Encountered a Package with no Package: header
E: Problem with MergeList /var/lib/apt/lists/
us.archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_lucid_restricte d_binary-i386_Packages
E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.

This usually means that your installed packages have unmet dependencies I tried to download and install Chrome, and it came up with a similar error.

Is my install corrupt/incomplete or something? My setup is a P4 2.4Ghz, 512Mb RAM, onboard graphics, wireless internet and the HDD is 40GB, split into 2 partitions, and my Ubuntu Partition is 10 GB. I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS distribution, and the other OS is Windows XP Professional SP3.I installed Ubuntu by using the Wubi installer.
