Debian :: Warning - Sun-java6-plugin Not Authenticated
Jul 6, 2010
I installed Sun Java yesterday and got a NOT AUTHENTICATED warning for the sun-java6-plugin. It seems to be in the non-free repository:

Is there a key I have neglected to download, or is the package unsigned for some reason?

what the open source equivalent to sun-java6-plugin is? For example, the open source equivalent of sun-java-6-jre is openjdk-6-jdk.

I've just upgraded to Ubuntu 10.04 and am trying to install the sun java6 plugin. I've tried:
sudo apt-get install sun-java6-jre sun-java6-plugin
I got the following response:
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Reading extended state information
[code]....
I then went to the Ubuntu Software Center under Applications. I found sun java6 but there was no "install" button,as there is for the other software available.

I need to install sun-java6-plugin on Debian 6. I already have a Web browser installed in /usr/local/, but it seems sun-java6-plugin requires me to install 1 browser from their list in order to install it. The thing is, I don't want to install any of those browsers, and disk space is kind of limited. How can I install jun-java6-plugin without installing a browser which it depends on?

Initially when I upgraded to Lucid I uninstalled openJDK and switched back to sun-java5 packages due to some application support limitations. Now I have to upgrade to sun-java6- packages. I removed the sun-java5 packages and installed the sun-java6 packages. Including the sun-java6-plugin.
I can see the plugin in aboutlugins in Firefox 3.6.10 however nothing (like webex or applets) related to java works. As a workaround I have used the Icedtea plugin which comes with open JDK and that seems to work. However I want to get the sun-java6-plugin working.

We should find a way to patch Flash plugin to inhibit the display of the warning "Press ESC to exit full screen mode". On Windows it's possible to perform the trick perfectly by patching the DLL using a Hex editor, but on Linux? I'm unable to correctly alter the binary /usr/lib/flashplugin-installer/libflashplayer.so .

I wish to try the Anjuta IDE - I am running wheezy. Using Synaptic, libsvn1 is marked for installation, but produces a warning message that it is not authenticated.
I have seen other posts regarding this issue and would not want to be left with a broken system! I have also tried installing libsvn1 on its own and get the same message.

how do I uninstall Java? Tried with Synaptic and apt-get remove, but uninstalling sun-java6 automatically adds default-jre (openjdk) and uninstalling openJdk automatically installs sun-java ... but I don't want ANY Java on my machine - am I missing something? Already thought I maybe have a package that requires SOME kind of Java, but how do I find out?

I had (and still do) a working dual-boot XP/Karmic (GRUB version 1.97 beta4). I shrank the Ubuntu partition and set up partitions and installed Debian 5.04. When I got to the point of installing GRUB, I told Debian to install grub to MBR. On rebooting, Ubuntu was not an option on the NEW (looked different) grub menu.Maybe it was GRUB2? Could boot to either XP or Debian though.
Thought easiest thing was to reinstall Ubuntu since it seems to "see" other OS's more reliably. So I did, and installed GRUB again during its install to MBR. Then, all three were in the GRUB menu (version 1.97 beta4 again), but when tried booting to Debian, got an error (forget the wording), but think it was because the partitions got renumbered when installing Ubuntu.
SO, reinstalled Debian, reformatting the partitions but not deleting them first so the numbering stayed the same. When got to the part for installing GRUB, I told it to skip (I got some kind of error that said "Install failed. This is a fatal error. You will have to boot with an external device..."), hoping now the current GRUB would work.
Now, all three were on the GRUB menu, but when I tried to boot Debian, I got "no such device" and a list of numbers/letters after it. And "press any key to continue", which takes you back to the GRUB menu (version 1.97 beta4, by the way).
O.K., did sudo update-grub in ubuntu and rebooted. Now, Debian 5.04 shows as last entry in GRUB, and choosing it starts a boot, which hangs at "Begin: Waiting for root file system....".
Waiting long enough at the "Waiting for root file system..." hang results in a series of notifications:
WARNING bootdevice may be renamed. Try root=dev/hda3
Gave up waiting for root device. Common problems:
-Boot args (cat /proc/cmdline)
-Check rootdelay= (did the system wait long enough?)
-Check root= (did the sytem wait for the right device?)
-Missing modules (cat /proc/modules; ls /dev)
ALERT! /dev/sda3 does not exist. Dropping to a shell!
In Gparted, the partition with Debian root is hdc3, although on the GRUB menu it's listed as /dev/sda3. However, in Gparted the Windows partition is hdc1 and on GRUB it's /dev/sda1, and it boots fine.....
Is my Debian install just borked? Did telling it to skip installing a bootloader (I got some kind of error that said "Install failed. This is a fatal error. You will have to boot with an external device..." ruin it?
If skipping the bootloader install did ruin it, how do you install Debian without borking your current GRUB? That's what happened the first time.

I have tried to remove them using the synaptic manager, I also tried to remove them manually. I've tried: apt-get -f install also. I tried to re-install it using:
sudo apt-get install sun-java6-jre sun-java6-plugin sun-java6-fonts
but this error comes up
Errors were encountered while processing:

sun-java6-fonts

I have made two partitions / and /home . / is where all the packages and other stuff lives and /home is where user i.e. my data lives. I am sure everybody knows the 'disk space is less' warning dialog box when either we install too many packages or when we download many things. Now the last time it happened by mistake I clicked on do not show more warnings. Now I want to have that warning dialog box back. looked at System > Preferences submenu as well as System > Administration but have not been able to find any info. on the same.
