Ubuntu :: Can't Mark All Packages For Installation Or Upgrade
Aug 13, 2010I just started having a problem with my ubuntu Jaunty.When I try installing Gimp and VLC through Synaptic I get the following error Could not mark all packages for installation or upgrade The following packages have unresolvable dependancies. Make sure that all repositories are added and enabled in the preferences
gimp:
Depends: libgimp2.0 (>=2.6.10) but 2.6.6-0ubuntu1.1 is to be installed
Depends: libatk1.0-0 (>=1.29.3) but 1.26.0-0ubuntu2 is to be installed
Depends: libc6 (>=2.11) but 2.9-4ubuntu6.2 is to be installed
I get similar message for VLC as well
I installed Amarok after this problem started and it installed properly.
Debian :: Could Not Mark All Packages For Installation
Sep 7, 2011HW:ACER ASPIRE 4920G with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2400 XT. I installed debian sid from latest daily testing businesscard the day before yesterday. I did a fresh install,I select LXDE for desktop and checked standard & desktop packages while installing. I got a complete blank screen with broken color when I restart pc while I finished installing. I did a web search and add radeonhd.nomodeset=0 to grub and I run into LXDE. But I still get a problem. I tried to install gnash & gnash-common. I got E: Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

Jun 24, 2010I did the UPGRADE from Karmic Koala to Lucid, and everything was going well. But now I've been having problems with the UBUNTU UPDATE tool for the last 2 weeks. Every time I try to do an update check on the packages, I get the following message:Failed to fetch http:[url]....Release Unable to find expected entry deb-src/binary-i386/Packages in Meta-index file (malformed Release file?)
Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.I've tried changing the servers to MAIN and others, and still no way to solve it. I've also checked for other posts, but haven't found a solution yet. Ubuntu Servers :: Unable To Mark Partition As Bootable?
Mar 1, 2011I am following the very basic Software RAID instructions associated with 10.04. I am installing using 64 bit Ubuntu 10.04.1 as well as 10.04.2. Hardware is an HP ProLiant ML110 G6. A couple months back I installed on another ML110 G6 using the 10.04.1 install and was able to successfully install a more complicated RAID install. On that system I ran with three partitions. The swap & boot partition was setup as RAID 1 and the third partition was setup as RAID 5. This system had four 1 TB drives installed. That system boots to OS and at this time seems to be just fine.
I am trying a new install on another ML110 G6 but this time using two 2 TB drives under software RAID 1. Following the very basic instructions I am trying to create two partitions per drive. The first one as RAID 1 Swap and the second partition is also RAID 1 but should be marked bootable. This is where I am having problems. I am not allowed to mark the partition as bootable. The only way that flag seems to be changeable is if I leave the partition set to ext4. But once I change it to physical volume for RAID I lose the ability to change the boot flag.
I have tried both 10.04.2 as well as 10.04.2 install media thinking that was the problem but no go. The SATA mode setting is set to compatible which is what the working ML110 G6 is set to as well.
I am currently at a loss. Since the instructions are so simplistic, I am thinking this must be a hardware issue some how.

Aug 10, 2010I accidentally removed my network manager (gnome) from my system (via synaptic) and hence have not been able to have access to the internet to reinstall the packages. I have experimented with many commands (with help from others) in terminal with little success.
What I now did was downloaded a 'NetworkManager-0.8.0.999.tar.gz' file and a 'NetworkManager-0.8.1.tar.bz2' file (from a different comp) and have placed them onto my desktop. I have read the INSTALL instructions within and it is a tad complex for me as I am new to Linux. I understand I have to extract the files and compile them into a new folder (I think I would choose a file in the /home directory)- how would I go about doing this? Following this, I need to './configure' or 'make' or 'make install' the files

Oct 17, 2009I first noticed this behaviour with Fedora 9, so I guess the install process is behaving as intended. However, when I install grub in the linux boot partition, SDA 6 with my current configuration, I would like my Vista partion to remain active. I use EasyBCD in Vista to control booting, as I have more Vista systems than linux systems. Currently, I have to boot the Vista install DVD after every Fedora install to do a start up repair on the hard drive. After the Fedora install, the Vista partition is marked inactive and needs to be marked active again. IMHO, if the linux boot loader is loaded in the linux boot partition, the currently active Windows partition should be left active. Unless I'm missing something, the MBR on the drive is going to be pointed at some other partition than the linux partition whenever grub is installed in the linux boot partition instead of the MBR. It's not that hard to activate the Windows partition, but after installing a few F12 alpha snaps and beta TCs and RCs, it's getting annoying. Any chance this can be changed?

Apr 10, 2011I uninstalled mplayer w/ apt-get (and with it mplayerthumbs + mozilla-mplayer) for the purpose of running a 'make install' on an SVN version I compiled - that worked out fine. Now I want to reinstate mplayerthumbs + mozilla-mplayer, but of course in doing so, mplayer is marked as a dep. How then do I mark mplayer to be ignored using the aforementioned package managers? Additionally, why isn't dpkg referencing my sources list?

Jan 2, 2010I'm trying to upgrade from 8.04 to 9.10 via 8.10 etc. When I run update manager, I get this:

and then it closes. I've unselected all the third party packages and tried various servers, but no difference. I can wget the file, but when I look at it I see entries for "universe/binary-i386/Release", but nothing for "universal" .

I even tried with an older ubuntu disc (8 point something) that had worked on another computer, but this didn't work either. I know the computer can boot from the CD drive, as it works with my OS X 10.4 DVD.

Nov 17, 2010I recently upgraded from F13 to F14 using "preupgrade". This is the first time I've used preupgrade. So far, F14 is running OK. There are some leftovers from F13 and I'm wondering if this is correct.
Q1: There are 176 F13 packages remaining. [alfrugal@localhost Documents]$ rpm -qa | grep fc13 | wc -l 176 Is this OK? FWIW, after the upgrade, I ran "package-cleanup --orphans" as recommended by the "preupgrade" page on the Fedora Project wiki.
Q2: Also, my GRUB menu was correctly updated for F14, but it still contains the three entries it had for F13. Is it normal for the preupgrade process to require the user to clean up the obsolete entries from the GRUB menu?

When I click on that, it says "database disk image is malformed". I've uninstalled and reinstalled Evolution, but get the same message.
