View 8 RepliesWhen I try to add a new new package (such as sun-java6-jre or sun-java6-jdk) using 'Synaptic Package Manager', I can see no activity going on and upon canceling it, I get the following response.

I installed java and my computer went off in the middle of the process and some packages didn't install correctly. I decided to reinstall them but it doesn't let me. I have tried to remove them using the synaptic manager, I also tried to remove them manually. I've tried: apt-get -f install also. I tried to re-install it using:
sudo apt-get install sun-java6-jre sun-java6-plugin sun-java6-fonts
but this error comes up
Errors were encountered while processing:
sun-java6-jdk
sun-java6-fonts
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)
I am having a problem installing java6 on my Ubuntu 10.04 desktop. I already enabled "multiverse". Waiting for your reply.

sudo apt-get install sun-java6-jre sun-java6-plugin
I got the following response:

I then went to the Ubuntu Software Center under Applications. I found sun java6 but there was no "install" button,as there is for the other software available.
I need to install sun-java6-jdk for my red hat server rather than than the free alternative GNU compiler for java (GCJ); but i can't install it...on Debian i can, but on red hat is impossible...

I am using Lucid Lynx. sun-java6-jre in the repository is 1.6.0_22, i am trying to run an application that needs sun-java6-jre 1.6.0_2. Is there anyway i can get this version via synaptic?

My second problem is i cant seem to find sun java6 in in ubuntu software center and i cant find any forums about it.
Ive looked and ive seen many tuts on how to do this but ive never seen a specific answer to my problem.
Specs:
-Kubuntu 11.04
Problem: every time i use KPackageKit to try to install something it always tries to install sun-java6-bin which is already installed. ive added repositories, ive used restricted-extras, ive done the update and installs in terminal. java works fine for me in the browser and for terminal commands. i have set sun-java6 as the default java and updated it again. the error code is: Code:
subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 2. i dont know what to do. all my installations fail. and i cant do anything. i hope ive provided ample information.
limewire/frostwire stops installing at preparing sun-java6-jre everytime i try to install one of them. i tried rebooting and it still does this.
View 1 Replies View RelatedInitially when I upgraded to Lucid I uninstalled openJDK and switched back to sun-java5 packages due to some application support limitations. Now I have to upgrade to sun-java6- packages. I removed the sun-java5 packages and installed the sun-java6 packages. Including the sun-java6-plugin.
I can see the plugin in aboutlugins in Firefox 3.6.10 however nothing (like webex or applets) related to java works. As a workaround I have used the Icedtea plugin which comes with open JDK and that seems to work. However I want to get the sun-java6-plugin working.
I installed Sun Java yesterday and got a NOT AUTHENTICATED warning for the sun-java6-plugin. It seems to be in the non-free repository:

Is there a key I have neglected to download, or is the package unsigned for some reason?

I need to install sun-java6-plugin on Debian 6. I already have a Web browser installed in /usr/local/, but it seems sun-java6-plugin requires me to install 1 browser from their list in order to install it. The thing is, I don't want to install any of those browsers, and disk space is kind of limited. How can I install jun-java6-plugin without installing a browser which it depends on?

View 2 Replies View Relatedwhen i tried to update Ubuntu 10.10 to 11.04, somehow the installation stopped. Thinking that the installation was completed i restarted my desktop, only to find out that i have over 600 broken packages. Fixing the packages don't seem to work because he is unable to correct the dependencies. My guess is that i now have half Ubuntu 10.10 and half Ubuntu 11.04

I until now was using them on a 32 bit system.Ubuntu 10.04. Here I am switching the computer to 64 bit and want to build same environment how ever my confusion is above packages are approximately 430 Mb and are present in /var/cache/apt/archives on my 32 bit system. Can I transfer those to my 64 bit system and use or there is a difference in packages for 32 bit and 64 bit and I should be using a fresh install on the 64 bit system.

I know this type of upgrade question is asked regularly so I apologise in advance if its annoying.
Im currently running 12.2, and Im wondering when 13.1 may be available? have there been many problems with 13.0? I've been working quite alot so havent been checking in that often lately.
also, would my old .tgz packages work with 13.1, or would I need to rebuild them as .txz?
I have been following (200 instructions on how to do a clean install without losing settings.I used the command<sudo dpkg --get-selections > /home/user/package.selections>to create a list of installed applications. My problem is that the instructions to reinstall those packages does not work. The code given is<sudo dpkg --set-selections /home/package. selections && apt-get dselect-upgrade>.However when I try and run this code I am told that "--set-selections takes no arguments".So I need some revised code to reset the list of applications for re-installation

View 1 Replies View RelatedIf I use testing with the backports.org repository, will "apt-listbugs" work on any package I try to install from backports?
I'm not expecting to use backports a lot, but there may be a case where I need a newer version of a program, from unstable.
how well does rpm2tgz work? do the packages converted always work correctly? or is it hit-and-miss like with alien?
View 8 Replies View RelatedSo, as per Arch Linux's wiki, I tried to make some optimisations to the intel driver through setting it up in Xorg.conf (or as advised by that wiki article, in '/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf' ), but I've ran into trouble enabling DRI3. Here's my current config file:
Code: Select allSection "Device"
Identifier "Intel Graphics"
Driver "intel"
Option "AccelMethod" "SNA"
Option "DRI" "3"
Option "TearFree" "true"
EndSection
So far everything works fine, I haven't seen any noticeable tearing, nor did I had any problems with any graphics-intensive programs I run, but there's a slight problem with the DRI3 part as indicated by Xorg's logs:
Code: Select all[ 26.556] (II) Loading sub module "dri2"
[ 26.556] (II) LoadModule: "dri2"
[ 26.556] (II) Module "dri2" already built-in
[ 26.556] (==) Depth 24 pixmap format is 32 bpp
[ 26.616] (II) intel(0): SNA initialized with Haswell (gen7.5, gt2) backend
[ 26.616] (==) intel(0): Backing store enabled
[Code] ....
First of all it still mentions the DRI2 driver, is this supposed to happen, or did something go wrong? Also it complains that it cannot find a file, which I can't figure out which package it belongs to, and taking a quick search around the interwebs hasn't produced anything useful...
The IGP is the CPU, which is actually a i5-4460... which according to Wikipedia it has a HD Graphics 4600 GPU.
I get this error whenever trying to update or install applications:
Quote:
E: sun-java6-plugin: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 2
What can I do here?
I am creating a slient setup script on an ubuntu machine that also installs additional packages. one problem i am having is that the sun java package needs a manual confirmation of the license agreement. is there a chance that i can automate the installation so, that the process does not wait until i manually confirm the dialog?

when I reformat ubuntu, I use AptonCD to save packages and then restore them without downloading anything over again. what I want to know is: I have the 32 bits ubuntu installed and then I downloaded the 64 bits version. If i reformat to the 64 bits one, would the DVD saved aptoncd packages from the 32 bits work on the 64 bits installation?
