Ubuntu :: Synce Several Windows Mobile Devices Without Much Success?
Oct 16, 2010
I'm trying to synce several windows mobile devices without much success. All the instructions I've read say that synce-dccm should be installed. I can't find it (or synce-odccm) either via synaptic or using apt-get install. Has this package been re-named or incorporated into something else or just redundant? I have the repository "launchpad.net/synce/ppa/ubuntu lucid" added to my sources.

Last year before buying a new phone i synced my phone book to the ubuntu one cloud, i used a sony ericsson back then. Today i have a new one and want to sync those contacts I stored to my E63. On the one.ubuntu.com there were instructions on how to setup mobile devices for sync but I cannot find it anywhere, even on blogs.
I really need the phonebook, it's some 300 contacts I cannot save by hand.

I am running Ubuntu 10.10 on Hp Mini 110. I can't get Mobile Broadband to work ... whenever I plug a USB device in, nothing is detected and there is no option to connect to mobile broadband. The devices I have tested are;
1. ZTE MF636
2. ZTE MF626
3. Huawei K3565-Z
4. Nokia 5800XM phone in PC Suite Mode (works on my other laptop running Ubuntu 10.04)
I have tried uninstalling with a full purge of USB-Modeswitch and then reinstalling it. This machine is upgraded from 10.04. It wasn't working in 10.04 either.

Last week google introduced the capability of using gmail to call other people in Canada or the US on landlines or mobile devices. This capability is free for 2010.
I gave this a try in Slackware 13.1 and it works. To do this I was browsing with Fire Fox 3.6.8 and logged into my gmail account. On the left hand side of your e-mail account window you will see a phone icon.
1. When you click on that icon you will be prompted to install the gmail phone application.
2. A download window will open asking you to download a .deb source. I downloaded it and then I used src2pkg to create a Slackware package, then installed it.
3. Re-launch Fire Fox.
4. Click on the phone application and call up people. The voice quality is quite good, I experienced little lag.

Can anyone guide me past this problem when trying to install synce/Multisync on F11. I am trying to sync to my HTC TytnII (HTC Kaiser) and any other useful advice appreciated as the synce wiki seems a bit out of date: Command: yum install synce-sync-engine synce-gnome synce-kde synce-software-manager synce-trayicon librapi Gives: file /usr/libexec/synce-serial-chat conflicts between attempted installs of synce-serial-0.11-3.fc11.i586 and synce-hal-0.13.1-2.fc11.i586 I presume I can 'force' the offending rpm but do not want to cause more issues. There is a bug report for this already: 505199

Trying to build the required libs for synCE, www.synce.org, as listed in their web site under building from sources. Came upon a snag, on building the odccm library which needs gnet-2. I loaded gnet-2 from my distribution DVD, and then did an #ldconfig afterwards, but it still says that it needs gnet-2. Not sure why it can't see it. I tried to build gnet-2 from source, but had a difficult time finding it as it is deprecated and Gnome only had the latest build which did not build (errors).
From configure script for odccm-0.11: no package 'gnet-2.0' found. Part of configure script is below.
Code:
if test -n "$PKG_CONFIG"; then
if test -n "$GNET_CFLAGS"; then
pkg_cv_GNET_CFLAGS="$GNET_CFLAGS"
else
if test -n "$PKG_CONFIG" &&

I have been using windows xp and microsoft outlook, mainly for the reason that Microsoft ActiveSync on my smartphone can only work with outlook. Now that I have diverted to Ubuntu, I'm wondering if there is any way to sync my smartphone calendar, to-do task list, and contacts, etc, with evolution under Ubuntu?

I spent more than a week trying to understand how to synchronize my PDA (Windows Mobile 6.0) with Suse 11.1 and no result. So far I learned what is PalmOS and what is not (I've been trying J-pilot and Gnome Pilot) I've tried with USB-cable and Bluetooth.
What I have so far:
- SynCE (installed via YaST, with some other components)
- Blueman just in case.
Was by default in my SUSE 11.1
- Evolution
- working bluetooth (Gnome Aplet + OBEX)
- Multisync (it does see the SynCE, doesn't see the Evolution)
So how to synchronize is one case, but first of all I need to know: how connect my PDA that SUSE will see a device for synchronization? I've tried Bluetooth and I can only get a paired OBEX PDA. I can send files. that's all. I would like to ask You for help. How to do it, step by step. We can start from scratch. During debug we can use text-terminal mode. But after is finished I would like to have a GUI terminal. I can promise, that if we manage to set-it up. I can describe it as a WIKI for other. Step-by-step.

There seems to be no documentation on how to automount partitions and USB devices under systemd in Jessie. (Overall, systemd entirely lacks any useful documentation or GUI configuration tools -- all very cryptic and hidden.)
I created custom files to enable automounting. I put them in /etc/systemd/system -- this may not be the right place, but it works.
Kernel note:
This does not work under the old Wheezy kernel linux-image-3.2.0-4.
To automount my Windows partition so I can access its files, I created:
/etc/systemd/system/media-windows.mount
The name of the file must match the mount point -- in this case, /media/windows
My file notes the device and file type, plus an fmask option so all the Windows files don't seem to be executable:
[Unit]
Description = windows mount to /media/windows
[Mount]
What=/dev/sda1
Where=/media/windows
Type=ntfs-3g
Options=fmask=111
[Install]
WantedBy=multi-user.target
The file ownership must be root.root. Apparently it doesn't need to be executable.
After creating, enable with:
sudo systemctl enable media-windows.mount
and it will mount on the next boot.
I read elsewhere that the before running the enable command you should run a start command:
sudo systemctl start media-windows.mount
but that didn't work for me.

2) how to use the command line to write CDs?

Say I have 2 speakers connected to 2 different sound cards. Under Windows, is it possible to have some sort of virtual device that would forward an audio stream to both sound cards? If this can't be easily done under Windows, a solution for Linux is also fine. lternatively, if the 2 speakers are connected to different channels of a sound card, is there any vendor-independent way to duplicate audio to both channels?

I found myself in troubles. I was trying to get dts passthrough works in many many ways with no success. Finally I (desperately) decided to try OSS rather than ALSA following this guide: [URL].. And there the things went wrong. I ended up with no sound at all so I tried to reinstall alsa again but with no luck.
basicaly what I did after following the guide was: sudo apt-get install alsa-base alsa-utils. sudo dpkg-reconfigure linux-sound-base //and choose alsa
but still, for example:
$ alsamixer
puts:
alsamixer: function snd_ctl_open failed for default: No such file or directory
$ /etc/init.d/alsa-utils start
* Setting up ALSA... [ OK ]
but no alsa process at all. $ aplay -l aplay: device_list:223: no soundcards found. It seems to me like sound card drivers are gone..

I tried to install perl-tk today, and tried tcl and tk in the process. "apt-get install" is reporting success, but I can't find the commands. I expect them to be in /usr/bin, but they're not there. I've tried "clean" and "update" as well, and even rebooted, to no avail. Synaptic package manager gives the same results. This is happening on two different systems, one running koala and the other intrepid. Here's a snippet of what I've tried:
%heron 35: sudo apt-get purge tk tcl perl-tk
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Package tk is not installed, so not removed

I've been trying to get a working server installation with little success. Wailing and gnashing of teeth has occurred. Auto-cranialdepilation (pulling my hair out) is in full swing and the intravenous caffeine is running out. My target is a running Ubuntu server with an e-mail server, Samba and the ability to host a few domains for friends and a couple of volunteer organisiations. All non-profit stuff. For the hosting I need something like cpanel but not actual cpanel; you seen the price of it!
I've installed postfix from the tutorial at [URL]... I think I've got ssh working, in as much as I can putty into the server. BTW, the server is physically next to my desk. Can I get email or webmin working? Can I hell! is there any kind soul out there who knows what they're doing who would be prepared to spend a bit of time puttyed in to the server helping me set the freaking thing up? I'm a sort of noob old hand. I still have a copy of the first edition of K&R and I had the pleasure of owning a Sun 3/260 for some years; wonderful machine! So I can
Code:
rm -rf /* quite happily and know that xnix doesn't know how to make love. Trouble is... SunOS 4.1.1 and Solaris 1 are more my era.
