Just had to replace the hard drive on my wife's iPod Classic 6th Generation. Now I cannot mount the device. It works fine on Windows and Mac computers. I have tried formating it on both Windows and Mac, I've done restores through Itunes on both. Here is what I get in my /var/log/messages

since I installed fedora 13 in my laptop, every time I want to access my windows drive it asks for root password to authenticate! I know there must be a way to fix this issue, i did this in my Fedora 10, but I forgot how I did it.Can anyone plz help me, so that only one authentication is sufficient, every time I restart/ start it asks for authentication which is very boring and I hate this
View 6 Replies View RelatedI want to use a USB "stick" or "pen drive" or whatever you call it to carry files elsewhere.
Nothing appears in "places" after I plug it in.
I am comfortable with the shell. That is not a problem. In Fedora 6, it would appear in /dev/mount or something--I forgot. With Fedora 10, I have no idea where to look.
How can i do to mount a scsi device ? it is a lg android phone ...
My dmesg shows :
Fedora 14 is used throughout the whole problem. The problem started when I wanted to install Fedora 15 DVD by making a bootable USB key. The size of the USB stick is 8 GB. The problem happened when I (following the tutorial) wrote the line [URL]... livecd-iso-to-disk command associated with the path to the ISO DVD and the partition on the USB stick. the USB stick has the device name /dev/sdb , 1 partition sdb1.
I then noticed that it was mentioned to unmount the USB drive before doing this command. so, while the terminal had written in it "Checking" , I pressed CTRL+C to stop the execution and then pressed on the arrow beside the device in the computer window (Which I think that it unmounts the device). The actual problem started here. I then tried to mount the device but couldn't, It said the device was not found. so I removed the drive and inserted it again, the OS didn't automount the USB drive, I tried to manually mount it but it said the device is not found or doesn't exist. then I used fdisk -l, It said that the sdb didn't have a valid partition table. Also the size of the device is wrongly reported. It should be 8 GB but it is reported to be 2 TB?!
[code]....
I think the wrong partition table made it think that it has a certain number of sectors which isn't real, that made it think that the device is 2 TB large....
After upgrading to fedora 15, I have problems mounting XFS filesystem.
The short tale:
Code:
08:01:38 localhost root>mount -t xfs -vv /dev/sdb1 /data/disks/old
mount: /dev/sdb1 already mounted or /data/disks/old busy
08:01:39 localhost root>fuser /data/disks/old
08:01:41 localhost root>lsof /data/disks/old
08:01:44 localhost root>xfs_repair -t 1 /dev/sdb1
xfs_repair: cannot open /dev/sdb1: Device or resource busy
08:01:48 localhost root>fuser -mu /dev/sdb1
08:02:08 localhost root>dmesg | tail -n 5

Device is not mounted, and directory is not in use, it has just been created. There is nothing in log files that could remotely point the cause. After removing device (echo 1 > /sys/block/sdb/device/delete) and reattaching it, disk started working.
I have recently set up an ubuntu installation on an old PC. After some fiddling with both it, and the windows 7 machine, I have managed to share all of my drives. However, when attempting to access them from ubuntu, only 2 of the 4 hard disk shares will mount, with the other 2 failing with a Unable to mount location, failed to mount windows share error message.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm using Ubuntu since some month and lovin it. Only one thing with Rhythmbox and my HTC mobile phone running Win mobile 6.1 is annoying: The mobile device is never recognised as a music player nor as a usb device so I can't load music via Rhythmbox. Ubuntu recognises it as umts-modem which I like and would like to maintain. But is there any way to load music on it at the same time? I've already tried different settings on the devices usb-to-pc settings menu, but this only switches on and off the modem functionality but doesn't make ubuntu recognise the device as usb or music player.

I've got an XP pro SP3 Vm in Virtualbox with Vodafone Mobile Connect installed. The USB dongle is detected by virtual box and I've tried passing it through with and without a filter enabled for it. Both times it was listed with the USB keyboard and mouse, all were greyed out. In Windows Ddevice Manager there's a entry for a USB Mobile Internet controller but the Vodafone Mobile Connect software isn't picking up the device. I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 and teh latest Virtualbox downloaded from the website with the PUEL extensions pack so I can have USB.

I have a computer running Ubuntu 10.10. I am using it to share many hard drives connected to it. I am using Samba. I have successfully shared many folders to one Windows user. I am attempting to share other folders within the shared folders to another user as read only but have not had any success. When I attempt to connect to one of the shares from another computer running Ubuntu 10.10, logged into an Administrator account with the same username and password which I setup on the Samba share I get the error: "Unable to mount location" "Failed to mount Windows share"
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhat could block access from Fedora to just one Windows XP system without blocking access to or from other Windows systems on the network? I have a working Windows network with six computers and one network-attached-storage. Two of the computers (MARTIN and NANCY) are Windows XP, the rest are older. I set up a Fedora laptop with Samba. The Fedora system can access the Internet (I'm using it to post this message). It can see all the Windows systems, and it can open all of them except MARTIN. The firewall on MARTIN is turned off.
I go to Places, Network, and I see nine icons: the Fedora system, seven Windows systems and one for Windows Network. If I double-click on the MARTIN icon I get a message window that says "Unable to mount location" and "Failed to retrieve share list from server". If I double-click on any of the other Windows icons, including NANCY, a new window opens showing the shares on that system. Similar results with smbclient. It shows the shares for all systems except MARTIN. For MARTIN it says "Connection to MARTIN failed (Error NT_STATUS_UNSUCCESSFUL)."
The other Windows computers on the network can open the shares on MARTIN with no problem. The network is partly wired and partly wireless. The wireless network is secured with WEP. The Fedora laptop is (as you might expect) wireless. The Fedora laptop is an emachines E520 and both Windows XP machines are custom-built tower systems. I don't think that information is relevant but I mention it anyway. What should I look for?
I have a cluster of linux boxes that authenticate with ldap, and a few windows boxes. I have been asked to make the windows boxes mount or map one of the linux partitions on the server.Any ideas or search terms that could shortcut the research process on this would be great.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI just installed Fedora 12. When I open Dolphin, I do find links on the sidebar which enable me to mount the NTFS partitions with a click. I want to disable this for less privileged users and only allow root to do mount and unmount of partitions. I was not able to see autofs installed nor any sign of entries in the fstab.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am unable to mount Windows shares on Fedora 12. From Nautilus, I can navigate to the shares, but when I attempt to open one I get a dialog "Password required for share ... on ..." asking for username (prepopulated with my username), domain (prepopulated with MYGROUP) and password. I have the same username on the Windows box, but when I enter the password and click Connect, the dialog just pops up again. I'm not sure what "domain" is, tried with my Windows workgroup name, no good. If I blank out either username or domain, the Connect button is disabled.
I tried using the mount command:mount -t cifs //192.168.0.2/... /tmp/mnt -o username=adrian,password=...,iocharset=utf8,file_m ode=0777,dir_mode=0777
That did work once, but now gives the useful error message:mount error(5): Input/output error
Refer to the mount.cifs(8) manual page (e.g. man mount.cifs)
I can run Windows instead on the client machine, and that gives me access to the shares, no problem.
I have libsmbclient-3.4.5-55.fc12.i686, but that was installed a month ago. I don't see any more recent changes to anything relating to the samba client. I've never had to enter a password to access Windows shares. Actually, it looks like the problem may be on the Windows side, although as far as I know, nothing has changed there. Using smbclient with debuglevel set high, I see failures with this error:SPNEGO login failed: NT_STATUS_REQUEST_NOT_ACCEPTED
Every now and again, I can connect to one or more shares, but after a few attempts, I can't connect to any more. Tried rebooting the Windows box, but that's had no effect. Oh, and "smbclient -L" shows domain as the host name of the windows box, but anonymous login (smbclient -L -N) shows domain as the workgroup name.
i am using fedora 14. Each time i login i have to manually mount my windows drives. Is there any script or system setting which will help me to auto mount my windows drive on startup.
