live in the German speaking part of Switzerland and therefore a Swiss German keyboardThere are only 3 different keyboard layouts: Switzerland, Switzerland eliminate dead keys/sun keysThe problem is: I desperately need the dead keys to type the be ?rall of the layouts have the dead keys eliminated so the only way is to use caps lock, but that's not all that great.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI found myself in troubles. I was trying to get dts passthrough works in many many ways with no success. Finally I (desperately) decided to try OSS rather than ALSA following this guide: [URL].. And there the things went wrong. I ended up with no sound at all so I tried to reinstall alsa again but with no luck.
basicaly what I did after following the guide was: sudo apt-get install alsa-base alsa-utils. sudo dpkg-reconfigure linux-sound-base //and choose alsa
but still, for example:
$ alsamixer
puts:
alsamixer: function snd_ctl_open failed for default: No such file or directory
$ /etc/init.d/alsa-utils start
* Setting up ALSA... [ OK ]
but no alsa process at all. $ aplay -l aplay: device_list:223: no soundcards found. It seems to me like sound card drivers are gone..
I tried to install perl-tk today, and tried tcl and tk in the process. "apt-get install" is reporting success, but I can't find the commands. I expect them to be in /usr/bin, but they're not there. I've tried "clean" and "update" as well, and even rebooted, to no avail. Synaptic package manager gives the same results. This is happening on two different systems, one running koala and the other intrepid. Here's a snippet of what I've tried:
%heron 35: sudo apt-get purge tk tcl perl-tk

I've been trying to get a working server installation with little success. Wailing and gnashing of teeth has occurred. Auto-cranialdepilation (pulling my hair out) is in full swing and the intravenous caffeine is running out. My target is a running Ubuntu server with an e-mail server, Samba and the ability to host a few domains for friends and a couple of volunteer organisiations. All non-profit stuff. For the hosting I need something like cpanel but not actual cpanel; you seen the price of it!
I've installed postfix from the tutorial at [URL]... I think I've got ssh working, in as much as I can putty into the server. BTW, the server is physically next to my desk. Can I get email or webmin working? Can I hell! is there any kind soul out there who knows what they're doing who would be prepared to spend a bit of time puttyed in to the server helping me set the freaking thing up? I'm a sort of noob old hand. I still have a copy of the first edition of K&R and I had the pleasure of owning a Sun 3/260 for some years; wonderful machine! So I can
Code:
rm -rf /* quite happily and know that xnix doesn't know how to make love. Trouble is... SunOS 4.1.1 and Solaris 1 are more my era.
I'm trying to synce several windows mobile devices without much success. All the instructions I've read say that synce-dccm should be installed. I can't find it (or synce-odccm) either via synaptic or using apt-get install. Has this package been re-named or incorporated into something else or just redundant? I have the repository "launchpad.net/synce/ppa/ubuntu lucid" added to my sources.

would have marked the last thread as solved, but couldn't find where to do it Got it up and running, dual-boot, and no problems after scandisk, and fujitsu helped out. Now I have XP and Debian lenny. Here's where the hard part comes in, for me anyways. Had to do install without NIC, install didn't find it. I have the driver disk for it, with a linux driver on it, but I can't find anything about how to use it.
The driver file has 5 files inside it. 1) Makefile 2) sr9600.c 3) sr9600.h, 2 readme's and a file containing some .png files. I can't find a substitute driver for the card, SUPERAL semiconductor sr9600, that may be already on the stuff I can get using aptitude, so what do I do with this driver...how do I get the system to use it? I NEED networking, a tutorial or some good advice,.. I've googled everything I can think of.

However, evidently it did really communicate with the time server on 192.59.196.66, because the value in the response 071218072010.20 does correspond to the time on the time server, albeit in the somewhat bizarre format MMDDHHMMYYYY.SS.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've just upgraded to 10.04 and even if I am able to use my two displays with my Nvidia GPU, it bugs me that I can't use basic transparency controls on my desktop (compositing in Xfce). I've searched all over google and most links say it's impossible to mix Xinerama with Compositing, while others suggest using the old Xgl implementation will do the trick. I've also read things about Xrandr and that it might be a substitute for Xinerama, but it seems Nvidia drivers doesn't support it.
So, basically, I am at the end of my wits and I wanted to ask (shout?) if anyone managed to: 1. use two displays as part of the same desktop AND use compositing (window transparency) 2. or hack the compositing feature to work with some sort of software acceleration instead of hardware acceleration
Google lists all sorts of solutions, but none conclusive. So, is there a way out of this problem, maybe by using nouveau, or Xrandr, or something else entirely?
I am trying to reset the root password of Squeeze so that I may be able to update. I forgot it. I have followed the howto Reset Root Password without success. View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm testing some (selfwritten) installer scripts and I'd like to test it on several linux systems. From my script, I create a database and a user, which should have no rights but to the objects created on that database. I create that user with "grant usage on <dbname>.* to 'user'@'%' identified by After that, the user exists, but is not allowed to login with mysql client (same procedure works fine on debian systems). At first thought, I supposed, that I did a mistake on database setup, but then I realized, that I could connect from a different workstation using that user.
To me it looks very strange, that that user sees information_schema and test, but not the database, I used at user creation. From my script I check success of db and user creation by using the created user for connection and exec a 'show databases', which should show the new created db. What am I missing with mysql on Suse systems? Is my expectation wrong, did I make a mistake on database setup or what do I have to change to validate success of my script?

I actually wasn't even trying to install the adapter which is the funny thing, I just finally got around to installing mandriva 2010 on my desktop and happened to have the adapter already hooked up to a usb port for my windows installation. When I got done with the installation to my amazement it got recognized and I didn't have to do a thing!
I looked into installing the adapter on my laptop which already had mandriva 2010 on it and gave up cause I didn't find any post's here that addressed the issue very well. Just thought I would pass it along for anyone who want's to try this on there computer.
I Have been trying to install BitDefender on Mint 11 but without success, Would be grateful for any note my knowledge of commands is zero but have managed to get this far,
1. Downloaded BitDefender-Antivirus-Scanner-7.6-4.linux-gcc4x.i586.deb.run into the download file. In Terminal I have tried to run it using sudo sh followed by the filename but get the message it can't find the file. Have tried cd /Desktop & cd/Downloads (Mentioned in a Linux article) but still get nowhere. Also tried putting the file on the desktop, then properties,permissions, ticked the execute box but terminal is not showing up in that box.
I am having a hard time locating the Success Stories area here.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am in the process of evaluating the move to a EC2 dynamic web server for East Coast West Coast to reduce the lag for interacting with mySQL.Right now we have had great success with mySQL running on our server.ight direction on where I can find documentation onhow to configure Navicat with CentOS 5 running on a EC2 I am suspecting that their is something special on the way it handles the SSH?I am not finding any documentation at all on this, I can not understand this at all. I am sure that someone here is using Navicat along side with an EC2 Amazon server. Well, at least I am hoping so.
I have to spent 5 days in trying to configure a EC2 with numerous Ubuntu setups WITH NO SUCCESS AT ALL. What blew me away was this articleYou should have this posted on your server for 1st time users with one small modification with the ending of the article on how to make it run on Localhost running ofa EC2 Amazon. It was truly a eye opener. For all the talk about Ubuntu and the numerous articles on installing a LAMP server was totally without success. But this article was truly a pleasant experience.
