Last year before buying a new phone i synced my phone book to the ubuntu one cloud, i used a sony ericsson back then. Today i have a new one and want to sync those contacts I stored to my E63. On the one.ubuntu.com there were instructions on how to setup mobile devices for sync but I cannot find it anywhere, even on blogs.
I really need the phonebook, it's some 300 contacts I cannot save by hand.
Is there any way to set up sync with windows mobile 6.5?

I can't find it (or synce-odccm) either via synaptic or using apt-get install. Has this package been re-named or incorporated into something else or just redundant? View 9 Replies View RelatedI have several devices (server, tower, notebook, android phone). I want to have my music library in sync on all of them. So what I thought of was a revision control system that just takes care of CRUD actions (or rather CRD). Maybe it could keep track of the files using their initial name and tracking any renaming or deletion. All popular software I know (git, svn, cvs, ...) is out of question because they save too much overhead (they diff the binary files).
Streaming doesn't work either for me because I don't always have an internet connection. Synchronizing the music using tools like unison is very inefficient too because I write metadata to the files so their hashsum, timestamp and size change constantly. If there is a diff or sync tool that ignores minor changes in size and ignores timestamp and permissions and so on, it would maybe be fine but I don't know one.
I am running Ubuntu 10.10 on Hp Mini 110. I can't get Mobile Broadband to work ... whenever I plug a USB device in, nothing is detected and there is no option to connect to mobile broadband. The devices I have tested are;
1. ZTE MF636
2. ZTE MF626
3. Huawei K3565-Z
4. Nokia 5800XM phone in PC Suite Mode (works on my other laptop running Ubuntu 10.04)
I have tried uninstalling with a full purge of USB-Modeswitch and then reinstalling it. This machine is upgraded from 10.04. It wasn't working in 10.04 either.
Last week google introduced the capability of using gmail to call other people in Canada or the US on landlines or mobile devices. This capability is free for 2010.
I gave this a try in Slackware 13.1 and it works. To do this I was browsing with Fire Fox 3.6.8 and logged into my gmail account. On the left hand side of your e-mail account window you will see a phone icon.
1. When you click on that icon you will be prompted to install the gmail phone application.
2. A download window will open asking you to download a .deb source. I downloaded it and then I used src2pkg to create a Slackware package, then installed it.
3. Re-launch Fire Fox.
4. Click on the phone application and call up people. The voice quality is quite good, I experienced little lag.
I *take* photos with both my Android smartphone and a fullblown DLSR. I *manage* photos organize, rename, rotate, etc. -- on my Opensuse box with KDE's Gwenview, and on my phone with Pixie Reef's "Fishbowl" Photo Gallery [URL]... I'm interested in your ideas about ways to keep everything in sync -- without using 3rd-party online services (No Picases, Flickr, Smugmug, etc). What needs to be kept in sync, somehow, includes:
The photos themsleves. Their organization among, and order in, various 'albums' Photo & filesystem metadata -- timestamps, filenames, EXIF data. PhotoApplication-specific data recognizing that at any time a change may be made on either device. rsync is a possibility, but once photos move into different dirs, it'd get messy. What workflow can I use to do this? Do I need a central server in the mix? If not using the 3rd-party services, is OwnCloud my best/only choice assuming that after each (group of)change(s) on each device I manage to sync with it?
I recently purchased a Spice 3G phone, which can also be used as a Modem. When I plug it into the USB, the phone starts charging.But when I go to Edit Connections--> Mobile Broadband, I cannot see the MODEM there. The Select the device is not highlighted.
LSUSB command shows:

The PulseAudio mixer only has radio buttons to choose one device per playback stream. I believe the hardware is capable of this, since I remember doing that before we had PulseAudio. How can I duplicate an audio stream?
Here's one application scenario: I am travelling with my family, all crammed in small hotel room. My wife and me want to watch a movie on my laptop without waking up our kids. I just happen to have one analogue headphone available and one wireless USB headset with me. (Of course, the low tech solution is to bring an 3,5mm Y-cable to attach two analogue headsets, but I would really love to use the USB headset together with the analogue one.)
Another similar thing that bugs me is that my laptop's built-in speakers now always seem dead when an analogue headphone is plugged in. This is mostly what one wants, and before PulseAudio, one had to manually switch them off which was generally annoying. However, the downside is for example with notifications.
For example, before PulseAudio, I could configure Skype to always ring over the laptop's built-in speakers, regardless of whether the analogue headphones were plugged in. This is no longer possible, since PulseAudio does not distinguish between built-in speakers and built-in analogue port any more, while old Alsa did. So in my office, where some analogue headphones are plugged into the docking station, I never hear Skype ringing if I don't wear the headphones.
I've got Ubuntu One syncing a single 25MB folder on 4 computers. On one of these computers, the ubuntuone-syncdaemon process constantly pegs the CPU, using from 50-80% long after any sync-able files have been modified and successfully synced. The process is only using 8.9MB of RAM.

1000.8 MB RAM
Pentium 4 2.53GHz
Free disk space: 280.9 GB
System monitor shows 56.8% total RAM usage, 15.4% swap file usage.

"Stretches/squeezes" the audio stream to match the timestamps, the parameter is the maximum samples per second by which the audio is changed. -async 1 is a special case where only the start of the audio stream is corrected without any later correction.Searching the net makes one believe that this command is just some sort of magic.People just put it in the line and it just works. Isn't that nice?
It says nothing about how to change the TIME the audio starts syncing. Like do I want it to start 5 seconds delayed? Or what about 5 seconds sooner?What if the audio gets more out of sync as the video goes on? Can I slip it a little at a time? What? No magic?No one mentions a file that already has badly synced audio.So what -async 1 really does is simply start the audio at the beginning of the file. LIKE AS IF THAT ISN'T STANDARD PROCEDURE?So what is the exact solution to syncing a messed up video? And why can't it just do the proper "timestamp" sync in the first place?No docs, no info and you are left out in the cold.

Now I get the following error message when I try to sync: Syncing on device bt: Press the HotSync button now dlp_ReadSysInfo error Exiting with status YNC_ERROR_PI_CONNECT Finished.
The last successfull sync was on the 20th October and today is the 24th October. I did not change any settings in jpilot or on my palm device. So I guess there must have been an update of opensuse which causes this error. But I do not now how to look up the updates during this period or how to undo them. Was there an update between the 20th and the 24th Oktober, which might affect either jpilot or bluetooth functionality?
I've discovered Firefox Sync a while ago, and it's absolutely awesome. Now of course I'd like most of my software to work this way! So is there a way to get the same behavior with Thunderbird?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm working on a server and noticed that the to RAID5 setup is showing 4 Raid devices but only 3 Total devices. It's on a fully updated CentOS 5 system that only has three SATA drives, as it can not hold anymore. I've done some researching but am unable to remove the fourth device, which is listed as removed. The full output of `mdadm -D /dev/md2` can be see below. I've never run into this situation before.Anyone have any pointers on how I can reduced the Raid Devices from 4 to 3? I have tried
mdadm /dev/md2 -r failed
mdadm /dev/md2 -r detached
but neither work and since there is no block device listed I'm not quite sure how to get things back in sync so it's only seeing the three drives.

I ended up setting up a basic linux file server as a pdc for that office. Our main office is a windows 2000 ads domain. The two offices are connected with a vpn. I only have two users at the new location so I simply have the linux and samba usernames/passwords setup manually. I would like to know if it is possible to setup a domain trust between the two sites so I don't have to create a username/password in the remote site for every user at the main office to access. I did some searching but came up empty.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been all afternoon trying to install Ubuntu Lucid on my fakeRAID 0 configured (2) HDDs and am unable to set GRUB up. The fake RAID setup is provided by Intel Matrix Storage Manager, it is correctly enabled and the BIOS is also correctly set up -- in fact, I've managed to install Windows 7 with no significant hitch. After struggling with partioning the drives (had to follow advice I found on a very helpful guide online [0]), creating the filesystems AND getting Ubuntu's installer to actually do what it is supposed to do, I now cannot seem to set GRUB up. My system, as it stands, is unbootable at all; via live CD only.

Im trying to set up my workflow to a terminal-based setup, so that accessing my computer through SSH will provide many of the things I need and use right off the bat. I have Mutt working great with my GMail account, so that's good. I do have a question though. Using the application Calcurse (featured on Lifehacker a few days ago, [URL] I am at a loss to figure out how to interface with Google Calendar. Is there a trick that Im missing, or does anyone know of another terminal app that plays better with Google Calendar?
Also, I was looking for a 'Digital Clock', essentially, again, a terminal/text based large print clock; similar to the one in the lower left corner on the attached pic. I was looking for a telnet server from the Atomic Clock, but no such luck so far.....
i am trying to install openbravo on my server.I have installed all the pre-requisites as ANT, JDK(though i installed JRE).
Everything goes fine untill the ant setup and then running the setup-prerequisites...file (don't remember the exact name).
As soon as i issue ant install.source it ends up with some errors..
So I didn't notice when I setup my CentOS 5.5 server that I left / as RAID 0 on md1. All the rest are RAID 1. Is there a way I can modify the array to RAID 1 without a risk of data loss? I'm glad I caught this before I setup any other services. I've only setup smb so far...
